! I mean the fact that it was depicted to happen in other eye too… It means that it's way more likely problem with brain and not eyes. Whatever that disease is and what it does. BUt whatever it is, the manga is based on real life after all, so it must be depicting real condition that exists out there.

Like, all of the concerns about his left eye, all of his past misfortunes and situations like this, is it all just a ruse to put fake suspense into his fights? The issue with his left eye have already been playing a part of several of his fights so far. For this plot line to go anywhere, it needs to progress. I'd have been fine with it before, since it seemed like Takamura had overcame this whatever problem that it was, through those fights. But now reader is getting reminded of the issue once again. And this time it progressed to the other eye! It's not a small time gag, this have been building up for a long time, and it is going to lead to somewhere.

Fight with Mashiba was nice. Nothing crazy but nice read with an emphasis on Mashiba character and his growth. Brother Mashiba has always been his best side. But they managed to adress his cheating, the fans that have been here for him and even some acknowledgement of Ippo as a person.

I am lucky that I dont super care about Ippo returning to the ring. To me he doesnt really have any momentum to go forward so I'm fine with the long time away. And I'm enjoying the coach and Tamamura relationship getting more focus since he lost his other boxer and seeing a bit more of the serious caring side of Takamura.

Reminder that Wally should be a much more difficult for Martinez with his truly unconventional fighting style than Sendo's lets slugfest approach. And its ridiculous that the order of these matches are reverse.

I hear you on it being one of the most annoying Ippo fight with how nonsensical it was. But he is the perfect pairing to how nonsensically strong strong Martinez should be to never have had a down.

The sendo pairing is just dumb. Although I feel I am preemtively ranty about how somehow the most basic fighter ever is what going to challenge the most impossible boxer of the manga.

Aside from seeing Sendo vs Miyata I'm not sure I have dream fights. I think they have the perfect weapons and attitude to be each other's worst match ups. I used to hope it would be the final of the WBC champion. Now Probably would want it to happen with Miyata being one class up.

1- Takamura vs Brian Hawk

! I love talking something I dont like and using to fuel a conflict. And I could never get into Takamura's being just being unbeateable and unchallengeable. But pairing him with someone that is just as insane as him made for the greatest nothing hold back fight.
2- Ippo vs Gonzales

! The Ippo-Gonzales fight is truly really good but its probably second because I reread recently. I just am not emotionally invested enough in Gonzales. But in term of the fight its just extremely good.
3-Ippo vs Sawamura

! I think the Sawamura fight has the perfect balance of Ippo being a great fighter to Ippo struggling. Usually he either dominates or gets destroyed for a solid chunk. But thins truly felt an exchange between 2 high level. I tend to enjoy Ippo's fights. In a top 20 he'd probably score 6-7 spots.

4-Ippo vs Date

! Usual number 2 but I guess I felt like being swept in the moment. The way Date slowly but surely gets the hang of the fight is a thing of beauty. And I like that its not easy. He clearly is feeling the pressure from Ippo and is trying to adapt fast enough for Ippo to not land a dead blow on him. And Date has that perfect marriage of respecting the youngster but also being the champion.
5-Kimimura vs Mashiba

! Great Kimimura fight about the underdog wounding Goliath. He should have retired after that fight.

I really enjoyed Takamura vs Bison. I enjoy seeing him be pushed in that way and see how he can push himself like Ippo but in a smarter way.

I like the story of Date vs Ricardo but there's not a lot to see in term of action so its a great fight but also not much of a fight.

Imai vs Itagaki (tournament A) feels too short to be included but I love it. Imai vs Itagaki (Rookie King) is also a pretty good match.

I liked Randy vs Miyata until they introduced the megasonic punch.

I dont really care for Ippo's fights against Sendo. Well more accurately the rookie final being between 2 punchers was fun but Sendo is too simplistic for me to care about rematches so I didnt care for the second one and wont care for a third. Fun character tho.

Between the 2 big Mashiba fights I prefer the kimimura fight since it stays in boxing rules. The Sawamura one is still good tho.

I found the David eagle fight boring.

Agreed. There's a difference between unorthodox boxing and a fighting style that's not boxing at all. Raw materials is good and well, but if the coach doesn't use them to make his fighter an actual boxer then there's no point in a having a coach at all.

She wasn't always like this. She used to be a pretty cheerful girl who would occasionally be worried about her brother or her boyfriend getting hurt. Which is understandable. But at some point Morikawa decided she needed to be a jealous and manipulative bitch half the time instead.

I don't blame Kumi for anything. Because in the end it's Ippo's decision to step away from fighting, and I can't say that it was wrong decision. I wonder if picture would change, if he realized that he no longer have any symptoms of being punch drunk.

They got that weird thing in their head that Ippo is their master and they have to follow him everywhere like good students. Ippo just doesn't tell them to go home when they should, at which point you can sympathize with Kumi for having her dates ruined. Once again a result of Ippo being completely insensitive and oblivious and not thinking about what Kumi is feeling. So yeah, I don't blame Kumi for everything, but being jealous and bitchy doesn't help anything.

Agreed. Nobody is blaming that terrible piece of wood for Ippos retirement. It's her manipulative selfishness that's annoying. Of course it's ok for her to wish happyness for herself. But if her happyness comes at the expense of others it becomes problematic.

Ippo mentioning Miyata as his goal is nice for me since its was always the match I had much anticipation for. Martinez is a stronger boxer by leaps and bounds but I prefer a match with personal connection. Martinez was more of a Date thing.

Well in japan (asia?) its not uncommon to end up living at your master's place while you are learning. And its also normal for school teacher to come visit your home when you are young. I think teacher/student relation is just very deep and when combine with Ippo being all about constantly working it ends up with 24/7 student following.

Whatever is necessary I hope Morikawa just goes friggin through with it. Even in other series that were milking the "are they gonna get together" thing coughConancough the characters, as clumsy and insecure as they were, had at least the most basic of understandings about those matters. Ippo is just braindead.

But in those cases the master would literally have his life dedicated to their craft. Ippo clearly doesn't. He retired. The only reason why we're having those two guys in the story in the first place is to have an excuse for why Ippo is still training this hard even though he's retired. But even with this hard training boxing is apparently not his main concern anymore.

You know, she perhaps might be bearable if she wasn't drawn like a friggin' villain when she's having her introspective moments. The "was" panel is literally what villains look like when they think they've got the protagonist where they want them. You could have had the same moment but draw her more pure and relieved. Heck, even the "thank you" panel doesn't really picture a face of someone I would want to root for.

Because she already is portrayed as an unlikable selfish blank piece of wood. If she'd actually be anything that comes even remotely close to likeable then those visual cues might not be so bad. But as Woody has been portrayed so far, that smug face doesn't help her case.

Also on the topic of her relation with her brother. I agree that in those parts she's bearabl but then again, every villain origin story makes an unlikeable character a little less unappealing.

I take great offense at the idea that anyone would struggle more with Sendo then Wally. So the origin of that fight keep annoying me. And also make Ricardo side a coward to build Sendo in a way I dont enjoy. I already felt that way about Sendo getting Rocardo first down ever. The character is likeable but I dont buy sendo as this magic boxer the manga keeps selling. And the more that narrative is push the less I enjoy the character.

Opposing complete perfection to pure nonsense is the only way I can see Ricardo have a good fight while staying true to his impossibly perfect carreer. And by good fight I mean both fighters pushing themselves rather than just a miracle last punch landing. And when Sendo does it with his classic infighter style I am going to be very salty.

In all seriousness I'm kinda new to Ricardo fights - just read the one - so even if it's Woli I'm looking forward to what comes next.
