This is not as bad as it sounds.

Recently, I exposed one of my friends to One Piece and the results were startling. After watching episode 130 "Dangerous Scent! The Seventh Person is Nico Robin!", she came up with an interesting theory… she "deduced through a convoluted yet reliable trian of logic" that Nico Robin is a man. After a few hours of attempting to convince her otherwise and receiving nothing more than arguments to her preceived notion I have decided to seek help from outside forces. Therefore, I'm starting a new topic dedicated to the convincing of my friend that Robin is indeed a woman and not a man.

I need something besides boobs and voice, both of which she has disproven. First, the voice, many male characters have female voice actors that do sound very feminine, like Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho or Yuki from Fruits Basket or Goku from Dragonball Z. As for boobs, the simple answer I got from my friend is "silicon", and considering Robin's a fugitive it would make some sense that she changed her appearance from a man to a woman. Her biggest argument for Robin being a man, is "where's the proof Robin's a woman?" I'm looking for more glaring examples of her womanhood besides her boobs and voice.

I really do doubt that Oda would pull an "OMGZ!!11! r0b1n 1s teh maN!!11!!" halfway through the series. He can be out there, but I doubt he'd pull a Miyaki (or Miyuki or whatever that man-chick's name was in YYH) on us. He's fond of twists to be sure... But that one doesn't seem to be up his alley, IMO.

Ok, dresses make no argument. We definately helped pick out a dress for a male friend for homecoming just last fall. There is photographic evidence of that somewhere.

Also, the Alabaster clothing that Zoro and Luffy were wearing after the Alabaster Arc did look like dresses.

Tell her, "Until Proven Male, Robin is Female." Proven meaning "Claimed by Oda." Because quite frankly, thus far she's been described BY ODA as a she. The world REGARDS her as a she, and has done so since she was wanted. Meaning, if she was once a guy, she'd have to have changed her gender BEFORE the incident that landed her that ginormous bounty, which blows the idea out of the water that she changed her sex to hide.

All this talking about Robin being male is because there is not enough Bon-chan in One Piece. If only Bon-chan would have joined the Straw Hat there would be no point in looking for the "transvertite" in the crew because it would've been Bon Clay!

And if you think that you saw something in episode 129, well, Japan is almost double that far in length of episodes and Robin has shown no sign of not being female.

Ok, example: Ritsu from Fruits Basket, male and dressed as a girl from age five my friend assumes. Also, there could've been someone else involved in Robin's past who had her dress as a girl.

I disagree, Bon-Chan is not a cross dresser. He's a ballerina and he's called transvestite as an insult not as a state of being.

Well, I've seen up to 174, I know that Robin's a woman. I've been trying to prove that she is a woman but my friend (female) is incredibly stubborn. Also, my friend is not jealous or hates Robin because she's pretty indifferent and the only reason she's seen it is because of this gender argument. And why would I make up a friend just so I could do this?? I see no possible reason for that. If you want proof that we both exist I can send you our respective LJ's.

The truth is… Robin has no gender. She is just ink on paper, an icon for a concept in Oda's mind. Oda has never drawn the characters naked, (because One Piece is a clean manga... mostly) so he uses streotypical body parts to show gender. Because he has never shown the 'up close and personal's of the characters, the best answer you can give your friend is that she has no gender at all. (And until Oda gives you proof that she is a man, the best we can assume is that she is female.)

The fact that you can't DISPROVE something isn't a proof. Sure, you can't disprove that that kind of plastic surgery doesn't exist somewhere in the world of One Piece. But by that logic, I could also say "Sanji is a robot" or "Zoro is from the planet Krypton" or "Luffy is the half-brother of Naruto, both from the womb of Excel". You can't absolutely disprove those, especially as we're dealing with entirely fictional worlds.
Claiming "you can't disprove it" as proof that something is correct is an old, old trick of people with tenous or downright ridiculous logical positions. If you friend really thinks Robin is a man, the burden of proof is on HER to find one single scrap of evidence to that effect.

I don't think Robin would lie to him about such a thing, especially seeing as how Crocodile doesn't seem to have any issue with a person's sexual orientation so long as they're efficient. If nothing else, lying to Crocodile is a very, very bad idea; if he finds out, then the liar is completely and totally screwed. Pretending that she is a woman doesn't gain her anything, but could result in a severe loss.

Really, if she was a crossdressing man, then why would she not be a Mr. Number agent without a corresponding female agent, especially considering that they already have somebody in that exact same position? She specializes in assassination and has one of the most powerful Paramecia fruit that we've seen so far so it's not like she couldn't be a numbered agent.

The fact that she is a Holiday rather than a Number agent is the single best evidence I know of outside of the obvious dialogue references.

Come to think of it, Baroque Works is actually a pretty progessive organization when it comes to gender and ethnicity…

I think another piece of evidence you can use is Robin's Miss All-Sunday getup. I don't think you can fill that bodice that well unless you're well-endowed. Unless your friend is of the impression that breast-implants exists in One Piece.

Antoher thing: no woman would dress like that? She obviously hasn't seen all of One Piece, plenty of women dress in similar attire. This is a world of PIRATES, for pete's sake.

Point #3: Look at her waist. Oda draws ALL of his good-looking females with a very, very small waist. None of the guys look like that, only the girls.

Points #4,5: As people have said before, Sanji has identified her as female. And in Baroque Works she was MISS ALL-SUNDAY, rather than Mr. #Whatever. Even Bon-chan, who identifies himself as both a man and a woman, was still MR. 2 Bon-Clay.
