People who do NOT mention One Piece

Of all the people who mention One Piece in the series, I was trying to think of the people who DON'T mention it, and therefore it reasons that they may know something about it:

1. Shanks: Not once has Shanks made a mention of One Piece OR Gol D. Roger. Or even Raftel, for that matter. As far as I can tell, One Piece is Shanks' hat. (That would be fantastic, if Luffy and crew went all the way to Raftel to find out that One Piece was the hat Shanks gave him at the beginning of the series, aka Roger's former hat) XD Seriously, though, I think Shanks knows something about One Piece that he's not letting on about.

2. Whitebeard: Ace does, but Whitebeard doesn't mention One Piece, finding it, or whatever. Do he and Shanks have an idea of what One Piece already is?

3. Arlong: Correct me if I'm wrong, but Arlong never mentions One Piece. Having lived on the Grand Line for many years, you think Jimbei knows a little more about One Piece than we think he would? Being a Fishman King and all, I'm pretty sure he could be the best suited to scouring the seas for a legendary treasure.

4. Gorosei: The Gorosei don't mention One Piece, though I do think they mention Roger from time to time.

5. Mihawk: I think Mihawk speaks to Luffy about being KAizoku-ou, but not directly about One piece. Maybe Mihawk knows something about it, too.

Maybe they never mention it because the time in the story isn't right…?

Or maybe because they're all in the story for very short amounts of time and have no reason to mention it within those boundaries?

or maybe because saying in a sentence: "oh and, btw the one piece is whatever it is".. seems kinda wrong :p

Why would he?

He talks with Luffy and helps guide him along the path to being a pirate. Outside of the opening and the end of the chapter, Gold Roger and One Piece aren't mentioned much in Romance Dawn by anybody.

He has a short conversation with Mihawk about Luffy (and probably a longer conversation while they drank) and a short conversation about Whitebeard with Rockstar. Not many opportunities to say anything about Roger or One Piece in either of those.

2. Whitebeard: Ace does, but Whitebeard doesn't mention One Piece, finding it, or whatever. Do he and Shanks have an idea of what One Piece already is?

Whitebeard has only uttered a few lines in the series so far. He has a conversation with Rockstar about a letter and shrugs off a comment about not drinking. There's no need to mention One Piece in any of that.

The fact that Ace mentions One Piece is a good sign that Whitebeard has not ever said that it didn't exist.

Arlong has plans that do not involve One Piece on any level.

4. Gorosei: The Gorosei don't mention One Piece, though I do think they mention Roger from time to time.

When have they mentioned Roger again? At best, they may have mentioned him in the context of the Golden Age of Piracy, but I mainly remember them bitching about Crocodile screwing things up, Aokiji being too big for his britches, and the conversations they had with Cipher Pol agents.

Again, I'm not really sure why he should.

The general assumption is that the route to becoming Pirate King is by claiming One Piece; for Luffy to achieve that goal would necessarily require him being in possession of Roger's fortune.

I really don't know why the One Piece has to be anything more than just an insane amount of treasure with a few rareties mixed in.
