Hi, I'm currently re-reading One Piece again I'm around Sanji's introduction. Now as I was reading this and having the current arc in mind I noticed somthing. Nami Joins around the middle of the Buggy arc, She Leaves for Arlong Park around 2 arcs later (she stays for Kuro / Baratie) then in the next story Arlong Park we find out about her past and she eventually rejoins the Strawhats. Now Robin joins the Strawhats After Alabasta she stays for 2 arcs (Skypiea and DavyBackFight) now in the next story we find out about her past and she eventually rejoins the Strawhats…anyone else see a pattern here?
Female Strawhats Leaving…

-
Well. No.
-
Yep, and when I mentioned it a while ago I was almost to get raped because I talk about writing styles, patterns and formula´s. Prepare to feel the wrath of those guys who don´t believe in those things. ……
-
okay, so there is a pattern. and what can you conclude from it?
remember, data is meaningless unless you can interpret and conclude something out of it (currently under stress of research).
-
Considering there are only two female members of the strawhat crew so far, it's really a stretch in my opinion to assume that this is a pattern. Remember our basic mathematics… it takes 3 points to prove a line is straight ^_^
Maybe it's a pattern, or maybe it's coincidental, either way, I do hope there will be at least one more female crewmember... anyone for Califa :p  -
and there actually 2 arcs before Robin rejoins if she even does

Like, make only one or two people die this time… That'll break the pattern.

Actually a conclusion was made and it proved to be right in the end. It was that following the pattern her flashback will come in this arc.
This was actually the part where I was disagreeing with myself because I was hoping to see Robin´s flashback much much later. But in the end I´m happy that it came now.
-
The pattern is… wimmin are fickle, untrustworthy, and cold as a witch's tit!
-
Oda does work on patterns, but break them when we least expect. Since we have only two female characters in the crew, it is hard to say if this is just coincidence or a planned pattern of events. I would say coincidence, but I may be wrong. If a third female were to join, then we could have a confirmation.
(And, if you consider Bibi a temporary Strawhat, she did not follow this pattern).
-
I don't know if it's a pattern, I just see W7/Enies Lobby as what Arlong Park would have been if Oda was back then what he is now. That is, I believe it's a conscious effort to make an arc like Arlong Park, only better. And as far as I'm concerned, it's working.
Edit: So it's not meant as a pattern, but as a "redo" of sorts of Arlong Park since now he has experience and resources he didn't have back then.
This is all just my personal opinion though.
-
(And, if you consider Bibi a temporary Strawhat, she did not follow this pattern).
Vivi was not a real pirate so she doesn´t count as fullfledged member. But you can take her as a half member since she stayed on the ship and sailed with them to several islands. So let´s call her a half-member.
And "coincidentally" he halfwise follows the pattern. She didn´t betray the Strawhats but Luffy came to kick those guys ass who made her suffer. Just as she kicked Arlongs ass who made Nami suffer and just as he´s going to do to Lucci who (among others) makes Robin suffer. You see, halfwise the pattern for a halfwise member.
Edit: So it's not meant as a pattern, but as a "redo" of sorts of Arlong Park since now he has experience and resources he didn't have back then.
I don´t think so. Oda handled Arlong arc pretty well. It didn´t lack anything. Plus there´s no way that Oda would have made Arlong arc so long because all of East Blue was just the introduction, seeing it that the moment when they are finally setting course for the Grand Line is called "The Legend Begins".
If Arlong Arc would be as long as the entire CP9 saga then the East Blue arcs would have the character of an introduction to the big adventures of the major Grand Line arcs.
-
well, to add to your point Ivotas, when she first set sail with them, it was under deception, and it's only after they got to whiskey peak, did she then turn and ask them for help :)
Edit: oh… but i'll still wait for the 3rd official female member to join before i make a conclusion :p
-
Actually a conclusion was made and it proved to be right in the end. It was that following the pattern her flashback will come in this arc.
thank you for that conclusion.
well, that about wraps it up.
-
yeahh.. i think its too early to consider it as a pattern.. its just a mere coincidence that this happens.. oda might've not noticed that this happened.. i mean like.. he really need to introduce robin's flashback bfore its too late or too soon… skypiea arc is already THAT long... and right after alabasta is too SOON... so.. this is the perfect time..
-
I hope the next female don't turn against the Straw Hat pirates like Nami and Robin. Nami started half of the East Blue Saga problems, Vivi dragged then into the Baroque Works Saga, Robin started the Skypiea Saga and World Government Saga. It's time for Oda to change that fourmlic tradition and have a male start a new Saga. Why does Oda have to make a female responsible for most arc? It's already cliche.
-
I'm not dissing Oda sensei or anything but i think he abuse the female too much
Nami: she was being used by Arlong and his crew and she didn't believe that Luffy would be strong enough to beat him so she just ditched him, but the had a great time being as part of the team so she want to join the crew again.
Robin: sort of the same case except that the enemy this time is the world government and she finally found someone who would not betray her and trust her a.k.a True Friend.
Vivi: She's sorta simliar except for the fact that her ambition got in her way and she really can't leave her country and be the princess at the same time but if she could she would have definately be part of the crew
By the way, noticed that they're all hot chicks? If there's gonna be another one i bet she's gonna be another one
-
I would hate to have a ugly-as-hell female in the crew. Could anyone imagine Kokoro joining? Yes, it is weird.
So, "hot chicks" are way better. Though I would not mind have someone like Tashigi (or other girl with less obvious physical attributes, but is still cute)
-
The next crew member is going to be a hot female musician since that is what they need. Eh, with two it is hard to make a pattern, and it seems that the female crewmember have more emotional past. I mean can you imagine any of the guys to do the the Nami or robin did.
-
Women will ditch your ass when times get tough.
-
Let it be known, women are reluctant to join pirate crews, and will temporarily desert your gang when things get tough.
Yeah well I thought Oda is the cliche breaker, he need to have male starting a major arcs otherwise it would be like a old cartoon called "James Bond Jr." where in every episode starts with a freaken female! Oh look a female! Huh? She wants our help! Ok let's go! "Next episode" Oh look a female! Huh? Her father was kidnapped! Let's help her! "Next episode" Oh look a female! Huh? She holds a key to the nuclear weapeons and villians are her! Let's help her!
Eegghhh…Make it stop......
-
Pattern or not, you've definitely stumbled upon the REAL reason Oda doesn't write romance into One Piece.
To him, women are big trouble.
