I'm sure there was a thread for Studio Gibli's new project "EarthSea" based on the books by Ursula Le Guinn (which I may have to reread), but for the life of me I can't find it.

Wow, another Miyazaki movie! I still haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle, either. It looks like he used some elements from Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke, judging from those screenshots. Nice find, Taboo!

I din't read the books, the haven't apeard he in Rumania, but i hope they will.
I have only seen the movies, but they were crap, and i know that they do not compere to the original books.
I will download the trailer later, can't wait for this new movie, Howl' wan't very good( i did like it), but not as good as Mononoke and Spirited Away.
Yup, his son Goro will direct it. Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to the movie. :happy:

Yes, this is his first movie.

That being said, yes, this is his first attempt at directing. Before this he was the curator/head of the Ghibli Museum. (which I LOVE)
Further information about this new movie:
It will be based specifically on the third Eathsea book "The Farthest Shore" with apparently a couple storylines taken from the Earthsea sequel book "Tales from Earthsea."
Studio Ghibli is the only studio Ursula K. LeGuin approves of for making her books into movies. She absolutely hated that terrible mini-series that aired on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Despite it not actually being Miyazaki I am really looking forward to this. I was surprised that it's coming out so soon, it kinda slipped under everyone's radar! I just really hope that Disney starts working on releasing it stateside too, but so far they've given little attention to the non-Miyazaki flicks. Hopefully the fact that it's based on the popular fantasy novels will give them extra incentive.
And I absolutely LOVE the song playing in this trailer.

It's no original project but it'll suffice. Even though I know next to nothing involving Earthsea.

Woah! Miyazaki is making an Earthsea movie?! That's awesome! I'll have to read the rest of the books then. I just read the first. Hopefully he won't screw it up (not that it's the slightest bit likely, but ya know). I like Earthsea.

Well, Miyazaki has retired and come back like, twice now, so you can never be sure . . . . .
And you have to understand, the Earthsea books have been famous and popular for decades now, LeGuin is considered to be one of THE top modern fantasy writers. (I really want to read her essay-ish book Why Americans are Afraid of Dragons) People have been waiting and wondering for years if any of her works will be made into tv or film. The mini-series was a trainwreck of the worst kind, so now people are looking forward to see what a capable animation studio can do.
