In chapter 388 i think where Luffy beats Blueno why does he put his finger in his mouth and say Gear right before Blueno falls. Is it another gear.

that's what i'm guessing probably something like gear final or something. i hope that's as far as luffy goes i don't want to see him using gear 30 by the time one piece ends. i hope he just trains his df and get's stronger that way.

lol Gear 30. I can imagine that. Luffy all muscular like Brolly(DBZ). Every time he raises his hand and earthquake happens. Gear Final would be mad cool.

I always thought the "Sizzle" sfx meant the Gear 2nd ran out and he changed back. Then while biting his thumb, he was going to re-activate it, or do something else. Maybe that's just me.

well he might need another gear to beat lucci. Well i mean he had an easy time defeating Blueno with Gear 2 but he onyl had a Douriki of 820 if i remember. Lucci has a douriki of 4000. If luffy has another Gear i think he'll need it.

Said it before and say it again. For over 387 Luffy succeded surpassing his own limits and getting stronger in his normal mode. And now that his big revolutionary power boost Gear 2nd appears he should reach the limits of it after something in between 20 and 30 chapters? This isnÂ´t even unlikely, itÂ´s impossible.

You canÂ´t do a Gomu Gomu no Storm without a Fuseen so maybe he wanted to perform Jet Storm on him. What do I know? Seeing it how brilliant Oda was with turning Kaku into a giraffe the thumb think will be much better then any of us can guess (which I really hope is the case because so many here came up with Gear 3rd).

Man i didn't even think of storm. Man Gomu Gomu no Storm with Gear 2 would be crazy.

i'm with Ivotas on this… I think it would take away from the story if Luffy now goes into the never ending power ups. He spent all this time so far fighting with creative-Luffy-ish techniques, and i'm sure that we have yet to see all of Gear 2nd (Second Gear). I'm betting that whatever he was planning to do, we'll see it used against our good ole buddy Lucci

Of course we'll see a lot of it on Lucci. I'm hoping for Gomu Gomu no Storm with Gear 2. Also what's with Lucci's pigeon. I mean what is it there for.

Nah, maybe Luffy'll have more Gear levels, but let's just hope he doesn't end with 6 feet long golden hair by the time he reaches Gear Fourth "_"

If Gomu Gomu no Storm can go though solid bedrock normally… i can't imagine the damage a Jet Storm would do :ohmy: I don't think even Lucci would be able to survive that. I still like to think that Crocodile is dead from his encounter with Storm (even though I've been proven wrong XD)

yeah, I was proven wrong too but Oda-sensai doesn't like characters dying, because I think it has something to do with the chapter titles and the smallish volumes that have what everyone is doing and suddenly you see Crocodile sneaking out…I always thought it was something of 4kids for the show but I was wrong after reading the manga and an interview with Oda-sensai

Going against everyone ever, I want a Gear 3. I was impressed with Gear 2 at the time, but it really wasn't much. He was all gassed after using it, and he probably wasn't too far from human Lucci. I just wanna see Luffy stomp high level enemies into the ground.

To Tell you the truth, the only thing I know of Gear 2 is that steam came out of his body, but I didn't know it would have some affect on his fighting status. Aswell as this, something tells me he could use the steam to his advantage in fighting against the Invicible Ice Devil Fruit

I do not know that…..um in earlier cartoons, steam was used to represent anger..I guess he's using the steam to come out of the small holes over the body. Its used to bring out sweat but in this case I guess its steam.

Gear 2 was made by the process of vulcanization.

Vulcanization is an irreversible process Luffy went back to normal after he went "Gear Second", so it can't be that.

I really hope Gear is something that is fairly limited in use like Franky's Coup de Vent, which probably helped inspire the attack. Frankly, I wouldn't be bothered if he used it against Aokiji and never again.

He has a signature attack series that is a major part of his character and switching to Gear whenever he fights a major opponent would be abandoning that.

He does the same attacks, just at a much higher level.

Remember, there's always a chance that you really don't want to know where the steam comes from.

I don't mind him not being constantly "geared up," but I hope it's not something he has to pull out all the time. That'd be annoying. And since he doesn't seem to constantly be in Gear Second, I think he should at least get a little more power from it.

Meh I think that's kinda… well lame, I don't want Luffy to become too powerful. In fact when I first started watching One PIece, I thought Luffy was too powerful. I was like "He can deflect bullets and cannons, he can't be crushed, he's pratically invinsible!"..

but we'll see, I hope it's kinda explained rather than just "I discovered a new way to fight!" steam.. WTF!

yeah Im sure it's just me, besides IM sure he'll have many more poweful enemies to fight.

gear 2=equals more rubber inside luffy if he had vulcansation he coundlt move as he will be too hard.

pardon me for saying this, but i think u guys got the wrong idea abt the gear theory
see, luffy imitates objects in each arc
examples of this can be seen in these arcs:

arlong arc (the net fingers and whirlwind move)
skypiea (golden bell)
alabasta (storm, as in sandstorm)

if anything, luffy is a really fast learner
or rather he's just like old school japanese dudes
(no offence) imitate and modify

gear 2 in this arc and context would generally refer to the imitation of the rocketman, applying the principles of soru (freakish speed) while empowerd by his DF

but seriously, thats the most manga-logical explaination i can think of
i just hope it stays at gear 2

just my own tought, i think luffy might have as much gear as roukishi user will have…. i dunno why but i kind of feel that luffy learn the technique from the cp9 therefore it's possible for him to have 6 dufferent type of gear. but he might not use it all in this arc... it won't be cool if he do it. he better safe it till he fight the sichibukai or ao kiji...
that's why i don't really mind if he got 6 different type of gear. as long as he's not using it all to beat luccy. i preffer that he only use gear 2 to beat him with his variety attack ----> gomu gomu no BAKA !!!!! yay
