What you like/dislike about dubs you LIKE

List dubs you enjoy (or can tolerate) and list what you like about them and dislike. I don't want to see One Piece in here….unless you actually LIKE it...but I highly doubt it.

Yu Yu Hakusho:
Likes: Clever out of nowhere humor not in the sub
Dislike: They ruin a lot of explanations from the DT finals to the final saga.

Yu-Gi-Oh
Likes: The best 4Kids VAs. The music is okay, and it is their best dub
Dislike: Cheesy lines, bad translations, the Shadow Realm, not really serious like the sub can be.

Kenshin:
Likes: Kenshin's voice, keep a lot of stuff the same.
Dislikes: They didn't include "Oro".

S-CRY-ed
Likes: The voices, it's almost the same as the sub
Dislike: They do mess up some dialouge in some parts....making it confusing

Tenchi Muyo:
Likes: The VAs are good, and they keep the same voices.
Dislike: Some humor in the sub not present, the Sub voices>>>dub ones.

Dragonball:
Likes: They kept it the closest to the original and use the original BG music too. The voices.
Dislikes: Some lines are mistranslations....

Dragonball Z:
Likes: Pretty funny, I liked the FUNi VAs.
Dislike: Huge mistranslations, bad lines/jokes, the OG dub.

That's all I can think of.

Dragon ball (original)

(gotta disagree with C. Wrath on tenchi and DBZ, i hate the dub voices)

don't get me wrong, sub lovers, there are a LOT more dub anime out there I can't stand

DragonBall Z (Ocean Group Dub)

Pros - The Voice acting is decent & the music is ok.

Cons - Crappy Edits, Godawful Dialouge, Rock The Dragon as both the opening & closing.

Gundam Wing

Pros - Voice Acting is somewhat on-par with the original, all the dialouge is virtually the same as the original, & the original music is kept.

Cons - the blame for this falls on the hands of Toonami the first & second openings to the show were never shown on T.V.

Tenchi Muyo

Pros - Voice Acting is Average & Almost much of the original dialouge is kept.

Cons - Ryoko's dub voice doesn't hold a candle to the original & the edits stick out like a sore thumb (more or less).

DragonBall

Pros - All the original music is kept (I think)

Cons - VA is terrible, the name changes suck, the edits are pointless or just stupid (Manwolf's knife/Tao Pai Pai's sword), Funi redubbed & remastered Makafushigi Adventure.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Pros - that the butchering of this great series at the hands of 4Kid$$$ is almost over or is over.

Cons -

1. All the original openings and closings are replaced with crappy ones (which are the same damn things)

2. The VA for certain characters are just horrendous (Insector Haga, Malik, Dark Malik etc)

3. 4Kid$$$ for some odd reason spliced two episodes into one they might've done something like this on other occasions but I'm not sure.

4. The Edits (nuff said)

5. Name Changes

6. 4Kid$$$ shameless marketing of this series to a much younger demographic
and only to that demographic (no more uncut DVD's.)

Ocean's dub of DBZ
Pros - Good voice acting. Scott Mc Neil as Andorid 16 and Buu were great choices. I also liked their choices for Teen/Buu Saga Gohan and Mr. Satan
Cons - Censorship. While FUNi was willing to have "death", "die", "kill" etc. used, Ocean hardly used them. I think they were breifly used in the Android saga but until the first time Goten and Trunks fused to make Gotenks they avoided them. Heck, Babidi even once went:
"I hear the cake (?) here is to die for!"
then went.
"Buu, destory them all!"
After the Gotenks fusion it was used for a bit, then dropped then they started to use them again towards the end of the series. Also, where as FUNi showed Super Buu's "Human eradication attack" actually killing people, Ocean didn't. Again, towards the end of DBZ Ocean did let up on their censorship.

Blue Water's (a sister group of Ocean) dub of DBGT
Pros - Pratically uncensored. I think you can count on one hand the things cut out of the entire series.
Original materia - They used the original music and translations of the original title. The opening theme could also be considered as a loose translation of "Dan Dan/Hold your hands".
Cons - Perhaps the worst voice acting I've ever heard! They could even be classified as worse than David Moo's Sanji voice.

Blue Water's dub of DB
Pros - Pretty much the same as their dub of GT, although there was more censorship and scenes taken out. However if you look closely enough, you can actually see Lunch give a man the finger.
Cons - Pretty much the same as their dub of GT, although in general I felt the voices were better than before.

That's about it really. I don't really have a problem with any other dubs I watch.

• Pros: Good VAs (mostly), intact storyline (mostly), kept music (mostly)
• Cons: All those "mostly" 's

Pros: the art stays the same. That's about it.
Cons: THEY MESSED UP CHRONOS! Gah! Also, the voice acting is bad, there are very very bad lame catchphrases. It's Daitokuji, not banner. A banner is something you have in your signature. Everything else… Did I mention Chronos? ><

Tenchi Muyo-
Pros-
Voices. Seriously I love every voice, though I might need to get used to Mona Marshalls new Ryoko. Kagato's is by far my favorite male and Sasami is my favorite female.
Scripts are almost near perfect. With the save of the edited version where they reword thing, the uncut dub has a near perfect script.
Cons-
Digital Swimware.
In episode 5 of the ova, they said Tenchis mother was his grandma.
Cutting out tiny snippets of scenes to fit time, like taking out a part of Kagatos organ piece.

Pros
–The acting and practically all the voices are wonderful.

--All the original music is kept (other than the OP and ED)

--Almost non-existant editing; which dosen't hinder the show's quality

--The original series is honored almost flawlessly, and unexpectedly, a couple of gags are kept (i.e: "Sexy Jutsu")

--A lot of the Japanese is kept

--Overall, the best dub on the Toonami block, and it proves that a big anime property can have major success in North America for a young demographic without chopping it to bits and over-the-top localization.

Cons
–Annoying and ungrateful subbies who continue to bash the dub, despite the very few edits and the fact that a far, far, far worse hack-job comes on right after.

Neutral
–Naruto's voice DID take a little bit of time to get used to, but now I think its very fitting.

I think that the english Cowboy Bebop dub is brilliant. I simply love it. My favorite part of it is Edward´s voice actor. FRIGGIN´ AWESOME!!!

Pros
Good Voice Acting, keeps the feel of the original, doesn't edit the Kanji text (even makes fun of it), keeps some original names despite how strange they are, keeps an explicit character the way he is.

Cons
… Jelly Jiggler is a strange name (I know it's to fill the flap but it's still strange).

Pros:
*Incredible voice acting
*Well-written inserted jokes
*Catchy, memorable music (DIGIMON ARE THE CHAMPIONS).
*Excellent dialogue (death was explained as simply being reduced to data…somewhat true).
*Good time, almost always worth waiting a week.
*Fun battles.

Cons:
Virtually nothing, though Digimon is almost always backsided by Pokemon.

Pokemon (Buena Vista)
Pros:
*Good voice acting.
*Solid Americanization of names.
*The original Japanese music!
*The first season is virtually an OVA; it was absolutely wonderfully written in comparison to recent developments. Myths and legends from Japanese and western lore alike were pooled in.
*Left some things unexplained, but not in a painful way.
*Poke-Rap was awesome, as well as the special in-betweens for commercial breaks, the music videos at the end of each episode (Pikachu's Jukebox [Team Rocket's Rockin!] and [Pokemon Master], not to forget Meowth's party).

• CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

Cons:
*When 4Kids aquired the series, the original was already going downhill, but 4Kids only made that worse by using their own musical scores (though the Pokemon ones are not half-bad) and by having the VA's take a less energetic, more tire-some tone for episodes.

Dragonball
Pros:
*Good voice actors, again.
*ORIGINAL BGM, HOLY FUDGE THIS WAS UNEXPECTED AND AWESOME.
*Stupid edits only made for Toonami; they're non-existant on the DVDs.
*Kept in death, kept in the humour, maintained the spirit of the show.

Cons:
*Short run on Toonami; I didn't get to see Dr. Slump.

*Original Back Ground Music is kept in.
*Dub voices are very good.
*It is 98% uncut.
*Has the best ratings on Toonami.

Cons.

*Those stupid Narutards who are never thankful and always bash the dub.

I haven't watched that many dubs, but I'll say that I liked Berserk's dub.

And I also liked Digimon's dub, but I haven't ever seen the original, so I can't really compare them. One of these days, I'd like to see the Japanese version. Doubt I'll ever get to though.

Indeed they were! I enjoyed Berserk's dub quite a bit, though it's not the best of what I have heard, but hearing all those 4Kids VAs just made the experience wonderful.

Kankurenbo featured much of the same, though with fewer VAs from 4Kids.

Other than what I see on television (which isn't much anymore - I haven't kept up with an anime series on tv since Kinnikuman 2nd Generation/Ultimate Muscle ended), I don't watch many dubs on my dvds or anything.

I did like the Ultimate Muscle dub though. But I haven't seen the Japanese version of it either, so I can't compare.

Pros:
Pretty much everything.
Barely any name changes, Kept in the Japanese text (I need to learn Japanese), good puns, that weird octopus scene (They kept that), SERVICEMAN (they kept that), That gun that Birdbrain had actually looked real, but was a water gun… OMG IT'S THE OPPOSITE OF 4KIDS! Bashes Head into wall

Cons:

They didn't keep the original ending… even though it would be cut now..(Stupid toonami and their show previews...)

The Snot fo yu and Fist of the Nose Hair Changing thing, CHOOSE ONE ALREADY! (I like Fist of the Nose Hair better, it keeps in line with the rest of the attacks. And the Manga.)

It might be canceled and/or put on Adult Swim because of Serviceman, because of what he does.
