I fail to see the point behind this thread….?
Can you tell me how good the anime is? Is it better than than the manga? the same? Any fillers? Extra arcs?
In comparison to the dub the original anime is GOD. In comparison to the manga it really depends. Some scenes are get better over in the anime then in the manga because of great voice actors and awesome background music. Scenes like Crocodile´s defeat are hundred times better in the anime then in the manga.
However the anime tends also to get over weaker then the manga. This is mostly when stuff happens that isn´t written in the manga. Sometimes even that can be really good, the march to Arlong Park is a prime example for that but stuff as fillers don´t even come close to the manga´s greatness.
All in all I suggest that you watch the anime. It is great. Not as great as it could be if all was handled as well as Crocodile´s defeat or the entire Drum arc for instance but definitely worth to be watched and to give you a deeper understanding of the characters. You will love them even more after you´ve watched the anime. No doubts there.
Fillers: yes
Filler episodes in LougeTown
Filler episode in Alabasta and
Filler episode in Davy Back figth
Side Stories(In the Manga but it was not good in ratings and counted as a "Filler excuse" Buggy side story and Coby/Helmeppo side story were animated but Jango, Hatchi, Wapol, Ace, Gedastu side stories was never animated and the current side story; Miss Goldenweek will not be animated also
There is olny 4 filler arcs:
Warship arc: between Lougetown and Reverse mountain
Stand alone/Goat Island/Rainbow Mist arc: between Alabasta and Jaya
G8 arc: Between Skypiea and Longring Longland. The Straw Hat pirates fall on the open sea in the manga but the anime was getting close to the manga so they had the Straw Hat pirates fall trap in the Marine fortress
Ocean Memory arc: between Longring Longland and before they confront Aokiji and head to Water 7. This filler was based on a playstation game in Japan called "One Piece: Ocean Dream" After this arc, they had Aokiji and the Straw Hat Pirats face each other on the differant island.
Thanks.
The question is: How can I view the anime if I live in America?
You have to watch it on CN at 9:30pm EST uless if you have a cable or import DVD from Japan to get an original One Piece. You can use Fansubs but these are illagel so be careful
Well, I have no plans to break the law.
I do watch the dub anime since it`s my only televised source.
I basically watch the dub, to compare it with the manga.
If you want uncut anime and live in America, you have one of three options:
a) Buy the official, no-sub DVDs (3-4 eps a disk)
b) Buy the bootlegs, with horrible English subs (average 10+ per set; illegal)
c) Download and watch the fansubs, with excellent English subs (illegal)
Yeah, you pretty much have the shaft here, don'cha?
Even though fansubs are illegal, you aren't going to get any trouble for downloading them. People actually talk about downloading fansubs on the 4Kids forum (which is rather stupid, but what can you do), and if 4Kids really cared that much, they would have shut Kaizoku-Fansubs down a long time ago. Personally, I think what 4Kids did to the anime is a much greater crime. :)
Anyway, if you want to see the uncut anime, which I do highly recommend if you enjoy watching anime, then click on the link that says "where to to get the anime" that's stickied at the top of the forum.
The original show is worth watching, in my estimation, it definitely has its moments and the voice acting and music are top-notch. The fillers can be annoying, but they're something I can live with. As for illegal downloads, well, I don't feel too badly about it because there's simply no other way to see it in this country. If they'd released uncut DVDs (like they said they would), I'd reccomend getting those, but they didn't, so…. yeah.
This isn't the music bussiness, which randomly sues anyone that they can find downloading illegally, probably the worse thing that will happen is the site you found it from is shut down. Just download, you won't get in trouble, since the dub is so bad.
NA DVD players can't play JP DVDs, right? >_>
Unless you have a PS2, you'd need… modifications... I believe...

The only thing I`m missing out is their original vioces.
Go to the site above to hear some of the original OP voices. They're fantastic!

My thoughts exactly. I hadn't really cared for fansubs but I gave Kaizoku a chance and got hooked. One word of advice though - make sure you have alot of space on your computer and/or alot of DVDs and a DVD drive. 130 eps took up roughly 26 gigs on my computer and there's alot more left for me to download at some point.

How are you reading the manga? Scanlations? Aren't you kinda breaking the law? Aren't NA people suppose to read Viz's One Piece?! O__o There are so many ways to break the "laws" its not even funny.
And if you do read the actual Japanese GN's then ignore my post.
Oh yeah, heh. How did you read up to volume 40 without breaking the law? Unless you can actually read Japanese.
If you don't want to feel too guilty, buy the Viz translation. And maybe some merchandise ^^ It's a win-win situation. Hey, if you're gonna sin might as well enjoy it right? XDD
That's what I do. And I buy Japanese stuff too. Everyone makes money off me. Nobody should complain.
I will not buy 4kids crap edited DVDs though. I draw the line there.
I guess I was breaking the law. I read the MSN scans.
Then you should have no problem watching fansubs. :)
If you go to the video clips thread, there's lots of smaller clips also.
If you've read the manga all the way up to volume 40, watching the anime will be a good way to refresh your memory on what's happened from the beginning. The reason it's good in the first place is because it follows the manga so closely.
Honestly, if you watch the dub you might as well say you watch a completely different show. Do yourself a favor and go on a One Piece fansub downloading spree, it won't hurt you a bit. Besides, there's no shame in being a pirate, hasn't One Piece taught you that?
Didn't I tell you about this before, Tom?
But yeah, if you've got a good enough computer for fansubs (unlike me…), DO IT.
Besides, there's no shame in being a pirate, hasn't One Piece taught you that?
That was a dub-styled joke. I pity you.

Oh dear…that's what I get for watching the dub. Don't let it happen to you! XD
As you know, it HAS!
I've never downloaded a single fansub. Which is why I don't usually know much about the anime.
