Sorry if I ask a boat-load of questions, but do online petitions work? People say that they never work, but I don't believe them.
Do online petitions work?

You posted the same topic twice.

I thought the other one was deleted.

If you don't believe "them," why do you believe us?

"They" weren't specific about why online petitions don't work, so that's why I don't believe them. I just need you guys to explain what makes them not work if they don't.
-
They have little effect because the credentials of those who sign an online petition are dubious. Who is not to say one person signed it tons of times? Hand-written petitions have much more validity, as they also show more commitment.
-
Well, The Heroes of might and magic community managed to get more development time for HOMM5 through an online petition, so I guess some of them work.
-
In my experience: no. I started one for One Piece because I figured I hvae nothing to loose plus I ask people to write letters too.
I should have 70 letters by now but I see I only have about 4 =/

Well look at Family Guy fans, they petitioned for the show to be back on the air and it worked.
-
Family Guy's petition did nothing. It was the DVD sales that raised the eyebrows of FOX executives.
How else did "Big O" get a second gear, but not a third?
-
Oh but Family Guy was brought back a couple of times, one of them was because of the DVD sales, that's true. But I for one believe that the other time was because of a succesful petition, no?

I don't believe they work, some might but the majority of them sure don't. There is a lot of stuff in the Internet, and its naive to think that your intended target will even see your petition, let alone give a damn about it.

Money talks louder than anonymous complaints. Internet petitions could potentially have one million signatures, but all those signatures could be by the same person; hence, they're not to be trusted. Those petitions are also easy to fill out and easy to forget about.
Protests in conventions and whatnot are more effective than petitions because they show proactive interest in the material. Any opportunity is welcome; during the Terry Schiavo incident, a dude got on camera and he flashed a card-board sign that said "GREEN LIGHT FOR BIG O SEASON THREE". That's dedication.
-
I wish they'd work where Megas XLR is involved.

No.

You're joking, right? o_O;
