Got a bit wierded out today as I watched a Kanye West video, the song "Touch The Sky". I don't typically watch hip-hop videos, or any music videos, for that matter, but it was on, and I didn't have much else to do. I though I heard something rather interesting. To see if I was correct, I checked out a lyrics site, and lo and behold-

"Yes, yes, yes guess who's on third?
Lupe still like Lupin the Third."

Now, if I'm wrong, and there is a Lupin III other than the loveable Monkey Punch creation, please do correct me. But there are none others that I know of.

There's also the episode of Robot Chicken, the (AWESOME) clay-mation Adult Swim show made up of short skits, that caught my interest. If I remember right, a guy is standing behind a red motocycle yelling out "TETSUOOOOOO!!!". Now, I've never seen Akira, but the name rather rings a bell.

There are also the countless times shows like YuGiOh, Dragonball Z, and Pokemon have been referenced on children's shows over here, not to mention other comedy shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park (Chinpokomon, anyone?). Then there are the countless cartoons coming out over here in the anime style, some good (Avatar) some… not so good (Super Team Hyper Monkey whatever-the-crap-it-is.)

I don't know, I just found it interesting how for so long American culture has influenced Japan's, and (for now at least) it's the other way around. Anyone else have any interesting examples?

And sorry if this should go in "Other Manga/Anime", I wasn't sure...

Anime is popluar here but 'trangly, 'merican cartoons are 'opluar in Japan.

        America
        Anime > Cartoons

        Japan
        Cartoons > Anime

Got it? Yeah we love stuff from Japan while Japan loves stuff from America.

'o answer gonna be: Anime is one of popluar cultures in 'merica! HAHA!!

I've heard South Park in Japanese. Sounds like they're on speed.

There's a Linkin Park music video ('breaking the habit' IIRC) which was apparently actually done by an anime production house.

As said, there's the American anime knock-offs… Hak Foo (Jackie Chan Adventures) is famously said to be a obvious Goku knockoff (he's got the hair, and the strength, but nothing else :D)

Just look at things like the animatrix and the anime scene in Kill Bill to see how anime is a popular thing in entertainment in america.

Breaking the Habit was done by the ones who did, uh, Ghost in the Shell, I think.

And the Animatrix. I can't remember who exactly they are right now… >.>

Wasn't there also a Linkin Park video that kept showing creepy Gundam models? That was weird.

Girls in Japan really love Minnie Mouse, too, I noticed.

^^ I can vouch for this. My last penpal from Osaka was nuts about anything Disney. Had Minnie keitai straps and everything.

As for an American cartoon popular in Japan – Powerpuff Girls. Whew.

In the Keroro Gunso manga, I think it was Natsumi who had this little Bubbles keychain thing.

Weirded me out, I tells ya.

I've been into anime before it was ever a "fad". I go to school at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) and we have this major called sequential art. Basicly thats comics. Almost all girls are super freaky neo crazed anime fan girls(shudder). I'm pretty sure the reason they're here at this cool because they want to do a major where they can draw manga. We even have a club called Shojo Phone book that is our school's comic club(we get a graphic novel published every year).
