This is all based off of a "what if" kinda deal so hear me out. This is an idea of mine.

What if there was a site deticated to both the subbing of Anime over in Japan, and the distributing of anime to America via download. Like a site that you download from and they come out with good quality fast subs. And all you pay is something around $15-20 dollars a month for legal anime for your computer. And from time to time you can get box sets from them as well.

So would you guys pay for this. The fee is almost the same for most MMORPGs like World of Warcraft, and they would sub almost anything Japanese Anime Related.

Thank you snow_yeti for the awesome av/sig <3

I'd actually be interested in seeing subbed anime products on something like the iTunes video download shop; it's already set up to sell thousands of low-sales-volume items by the each. It might be interesting to sell the same video file, with a feature that allows you to pick different subtitle files (HK, Gerusama, K-F, 4kids captions) and view them together.

I'm the kind of wierdo who enjoys the work that goes into packaging of localized anime and has no problem paying for a well done dub/sub job with spiffy art/box/menus etc.

To me it's just not the same having a bunch of burned disks, even if I payed for it legaly via the means you suggest.

I like watching on a DVD player versus my computer also (I put up with it for OP ^__^ but I'd really like some neato packaging and art for my disks)

Maybe, but most anime I get is from buying the DVDs released here. But that might be an interesting option for the Japanese releases that may not be able to get a good DVD release here.

Wait. Pay? For Japanese animated programs? As in, exchanging currency for them? Tell me more about this concept.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Probably much like eBooks but for animation. We already have that for Japanese; just not subbed ~.~

I probably wait for http://www.gyao.jp/ to feature my favorite series, if I ever watch anime or any other TV program. …

I was more trying to suggest a site that would sub anime. And you have access to different series. And all you pay is a monthly fee for it all. Its downloading but with more benefits.

Yeah I got the drift. However, I read the thread title and had quite a chuckle. Considering I have a tub of DVDs downstairs that I wasted cash on during my personal bubble economy, I just recalled exactly how much I paid for anime at one point in my life.

Now as far as such a service, since we're in the realm of hypothetical speaking, sounds like a fantastic idea but making such a service legal is another thing.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Yeah, thats why its more of a "what if" kinda thing. Because you will always have licencng rights to deal with, and all that good stuff.

I believe in suporting the company. I like collecting box sets for my favorite anime. I also wish I had access to more obscure stuff and not be limited to what ever north america "thinks" i might like to see from japan. I would most definatly want to pay for this service.

One of the main reasons I don't want to move too far away from Toronto is cause not everywhere has a china town filled with hong kong subs I can buy for cheep, with different titles I can't buy mainstream. They had One Piece in china town when it first became popular in japan. I just didn't have money to buy it then. But I looked and drooled over it.

Hold on, buying Hong Kong subs doesn't help Oda or even Toei in any way.

                                wholey crap! your right.

Well, I guess I should say, I like to suport the company the best I can within my own limits. My limits with OP being cash, since there are so many damn episodes out there, and access to them. I'm sorry, but I'm not suporting 4kids dubbing of OP I'd rather get a sourse, where I know they stick to the true story, and don't cut anything out.

I'd donate to an Oda fund if there was one, and when I had money. (i might soon again)

Hm should I answer this question in general or for your case specifically.

I would never pay for anime.. haven't paid a dime for it.. barring the blank DVDs and hard drives to store 1.4 terrabyte.. if I couldn't get it for free I simply wouldn't get it..

Not that I'm so cheap I'm just 'teh poor' atm. If I had surplus money, I'd probably spend some on anime.. not really buying legit DVDs (unless I was filthy rich) but rather for download services.

The reason is that I rarely watch anime, except for One Piece, even though I have insane amounts of it.. I just kinda collect..

EDIT: actually.. scratch that.. I'm just too cheap I think. If you are used to getting something for free it's haphazard to go pay for it, atleast for me, who has no real moral objections to getting it for free (lol).

I probably wouldn't mind, I don't watch much anime (mainly a mnaga reader) and usually borrow from friends but the idea sounds rather good yet it might end up rather limited.
