Zoro seems Japanese, Sanji French, Robin's Spanish, Nami is American, Chopper could be Russian (though any snow-based region in Eurasia could be his home), and Usopp is Italian-ish.

I really don't get why some people think Usopp would be Mexican, though...I practically live in Mexico (SoCal is still Mexico as far as they're concerned, they're still pissed off at how it was taken from them), the only characters in One Piece who look remotely Mexican would be some of the Shandians - which makes sense, because Mexicans are for the most part native Americans.

Last I checked, 'cien' was Spanish, not Italian. 'Fleur' is French, though…

Oh well, I'm from Brazil, and I kinda identify himself with the stereotype from my country (which doesn't correspond as the truth, like 95% of the other countries stereotypes). Since brazilians are the third biggest community of non japaneses in Japan (behind chinese and koreans), I thought that it was impossible for Oda to never have noticed any brazilian in there.
The truth is that I hell like Usopp as an character, but that Pinocchio thing made me think twice.

Well, Water 7 is based off of Venice, Italy. The surrounding Islands also have Italian sounding names (Pucci, San Faldo). And Rob Lucci is an Italian name. There's an Italian restaurant around here called Lucci's. :biggrin:

Well, since Yasopp don't have any reference (the name of his shots, or the big nose from pinocchio), you can't really tell were he's from. Well, some latin country from Central America? Don't know.
