That wasn't even DIC anymore, it was SunClover or whatever company aquired the rights afterward.
And fudge that, counsincest ftw. Much better than just regular ol' lesbians anyway.

The most loving, fan joke laden amv ever. Its actually not making fun of it, its making fun WITH it.
Man, your awesomeness reallys knows no end, eh robby?

first DIC dubbed it from Classic to the R season (they did the movies too) then cWI took over for the S & SuperS season tbh I'd rather had it the original way that's why I'm hoping for a re-dub
I really hope Funi gets it, before anyone else gets (like 4kids and the now resurected Saban Brands)
OMG not 4kids DIC already edited the show enough! 4kids would just butcher it!

…no?
There was no Shadow Realm in YGO, but there IS a Negaverse in SM. So, that's one less edit for 4Kids to make. At the very least, the butchery would be about the same.

Like I said DIC already edited enough i mean what would be the point of 4kids getting it again they'll probably try to edited it more and more cause most of the shows 4kids have dubbed if you watched them in there entirety comes to 19 mins at the most, they would probably edit SM more to fit that time frame, that's what I think but I hope Funimation gets it though keeps fingers cross but you're right though the butchery would be about the same but DIC would probably have 4kids over with the voice actors
New Anime in 2013 has been announced in Japan Expo (Paris) today ^^
A sailor moon remake huh? What's up with this whole revival movement
New Anime in 2013 has been announced in Japan Expo (Paris) today ^^
Well, it was inevitable. The old one is still an important international license, but it has aged. Oh, how it has aged.
I assume it'll be a remake/retelling (ala the new Yamato series) rather than a convoluted continuation?
It'd be weird if they remade the random filler episodes.
Also, if they took out all the filler they could probably do the entire manga in like 26 episodes instead of 200.

i actually just shed a tear of joy. I CANT FUCKIN WAIT!
Wait what? Sailor moon had 200 eps? I thought it ended after those aliens were forgiven by their space tree
Wait what? Sailor moon had 200 eps? I thought it ended after those aliens were forgiven by their space tree
That was just the filler saga between seasons 1 and 2. And in some markets, it was the first 13 episodes licensed as a test (nevermind that there was a 40 episode first season before it.)
You never got to Sailor Moon's annoying daughter, or the lesbian scouts then?
No can't say i remember any of that. Guess some of this will be totally new to me if i watch the remake
Or the awesomeness that is Sailor Stars Season?
DUDE! You missed out!
SEIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
So you totally didn't see final episode where Sailor Moon flies around naked for 10 minutes then.
….no. Seriously.
That happened.
part of the reason the final season never made it anywhere outside of Japan.
That and the three men that transformed into women. In addition to the lesbian "cousin" scouts. Or the....
screw it. Just watch this.
None of that is exaggerated.
Yeah gay stuff and nudity would never have passed our censurs in the 90's.
The parents had enough of an uproar over the fact that they died at the end of the first season
They didn't even "die" in the first season in America. They were just uhm… knocked out.
Sailor Stars Season was played in germany lots of times… And as far as I can remember never censored in any way.. oh you prude americans :P
(there was just this one EP where a guy lets his pants down in front of Chibiusa that never aired here)
@RobbyBevard:
screw it. Just watch this.

Huh so Zoisite had a man suprise in her pants? I don't belive our dub ever made that clear
Zoicite was totally a dude.
Most dubs just make Zoicite into a woman because of the hair and the eyes and the relationship with Malachite and really, thats much easier to deal with.
This occurs again with some of the later villains as well. And some of the heroes.
…That show had gender issues.
I have a childhood nostalgia for the show, but I don't think I could tolerate watching a new one if it was anything like the old one.
I believe i watched the final battle (in an crystal palace or such a place?)…that rly is a nostalgic series for me.
Knowing now that this was one of the first anime-expierences i had (but i guess Mila was even before that)-
this is so me atm. I still can't believe this is really happening! vbhjklöamcnv happy happy happy happy happy
so sailor moon is coming back. HA HA HA! this is a gala day for us.
The new theme song.
How is Sailor Moon aged? The animation looks top notch to me, even for todays standards. When I compare it to some horrible OP episodes there is really no reason to bitch or even the need for a remake.
Anyway! Sailor Uranus is the best.
And Sailor Mars made me realize that I'm into girls.
She never really looked like 14 :wassat:
Edit: By any chance, does anyone know where to find the background music of the video I linked above? It was always used when Uranus / Neptune kicked someones ass…would be awesome if it was on some of the soundtracks or so.

This one? (I just searched for "Sailor Moon OST Uranus Neptune" lol)

Ehem, yeah…that's the one...good job!!!
Edit: Sounds really beautiful.
It's from Vanessa Mae.
Robby, look up, I posted the new theme song… won't be the old one :(

No. It's not.
It's really not.
Some of the individual drawings are okay. The animation isn't. The coloring is very 80s and faded, the backgrounds are generally bleh, the reused frames are many, and the animation is… not all that animated. The transformation and attack sequences, which got reused for 40-80 episodes at a time got some decent animation thrown at them, BECAUSE they were going to be used endlessly, but the actual material in most of the episodes looks pretty bad.
It's like looking at the old Slayers anime and going "It looks fine as is!" and then you compare it to the OVAs, movies or Slayers Revolution and it looks terrible.
Also, the OP anime is crap and done on minimal weekly budget (despite being as huge as it is), its not a good comparison to go to most of the time. Its the shorter high quality series you want to compare to.
Holy balls! I never did see how the show actually ended. I may have to pick that up and junk.
I'm kinda excited to see it all shiny and new. It was pretty much the first anime I watched as a kid.

Hm, yeah you got a point there.
Tho you say that I shouldn't compare it to OP, but Toei is aniamting the new episodes? Doesn't that worry you? I must admit I don't know all that much about the production of anime's, but if they slack on something huge like OP, maybe they will on Sailor Moon as well.
In any case, I will watch the first season no matter what. It has been 16 years now and I'm feeling like pressing the nostalgia buton. Badly.

It depends on if they attempt to make it a long running weekly, or if they initially plan to only do a limited number of episodes. That'll determine how they alot their time and budget. As is, the manga is done, so they won't need to do filler… but the manga moves at such a brisk pace some padding is needed to flesh the characters out and give the villains time to shine. (In the manga all villains tend to die after like... a chapter. Rather than 10 episodes. )
And no matter what, unless they go SUPER cheap, the sheer advent of technology and digital animation in the last 20 years means it'll look better. High def digital coloring at the very least makes an astonishing amount of difference.

looks fine but
looks better.
tells the story but
tells the story with some style.

Again, just using Slayers example because it comes to mind as an older early 90's show that had a recent remake. And of course that's just screenshots, not actually in motion where the big difference is.
Of course, the writing is the most important part and the fanciest animation in the world won't cover a bad story.
I wonder if SM is going to have reused transformation sequences again. Its part of the show's history, so… maybe they can get away it.

I wouldn't worry. "One Piece" is a long, long, long series and the manga won't end for quite some time. To get a new episode out each week of course they're working on a budget. It's a given that this new series will be much, much shorter, no comparison, so in that case the animation will be much higher quality.
Regardless I don't give a shit about whether animation is limited or not. "One Piece" is not an OVA.
Also wasn't it wolfwood that asked what's with this whole revival thing? Well it's the 20th anniversary after all, they're kind of doing a Kai thing here, except it's actually new. Anyway from what I heard I don't think a re-edit of the original animation ala "DBZ" would work.
still one of the most heartwrenching scenes I've ever seen. especially 0:16-0:19 and then again 2:25 and what comes after it…
I used to be one of those sailor moon fans, starting when I was like 13, (many many many) years ago, roaming A sailor moon romance forums (AKA ASMR)
I used to have posters on my bedroom and somethimes I felt like doing my hair un buns and all that hahaha,…. My computer was called Amy! LOL
Anyway, I would like a re-launch of the series AS LONG as they actually follow the Manga's story line, Manga Usagi was more emo somethimes but I think generally speaking emotions ran a little deeper in the Manga.
Also, Anime was very repetitive, with all the "droids" and random enemies appearing each chapter, (almost everychapter was filler in some way) so if they do a reboot I HOPE its manga based
I hope Saban dubs it again and takes all the heart out of everything again.
"Me, a moon princess? Now this is way past weird!"
Haaaaa I remember Sailor Moon.
In my country I remember that the last episodes made really sick, all that I remember was lot of blood and deaths(at least I think that was Sailor Moon) and all on a kids channel.
Good times.

There was definitely no blood. Except for Galaxia in the last ep, but that wasn't a lot

There was no blood, but the last episode of the first arc (at least I think it was the first) was absolutely brutal considering the target audience (in my country). A proper mindfuck when you are like 9 and your favorite characters die painful deaths one after another. It isn't really about violence, but the emotional aspect to it.
Oh, you're talking bout the first season.. I meant the last. And compared to the last season's finals, the first season finale isn't that brutal :P
But yeah, it was all a huge shock, but I loved it. BRING OUT ALL THE EMOTIONS

Yeah, but when Hunter x Hunter does it, it's totally cool.
Anyway, I only watched as much of the original Sailor Moon as Toonami allowed us (that is, everything up through the Pegasus arc), and I'll always remember it as one of my first anime and one of my favorite childhood. Though, yeah, it's pretty dumb and has aged terribly.
Still, really cool to see it's getting another anime and tentively, yes, I will be interested in seeing it once it comes out. Kind of a coincidence too, since the manga is currently being (re)released here in the States.
Yeah, but when Hunter x Hunter does it, it's totally cool.
I'm sure if Saban was dubbing Hunter they'd make the girly looking characters women as well, at least the ones in obvious romantic relationships with a clearly male character. Because… that's easier. Especially if they were trying to hit a wide mass market american saturday morning audience of 10 year old (which HxH will never be. Not in America anyway.)
Hell, in Power Rangers they made the yellow ranger into a girl, and that was live action!
Personally, their workaround on the lesbians later on was just hilarious. You didn't make them any less gay, you just made them incestuous!
Also, Zoicite had nothing on Fish-Eye. He was actively feminine.
Hawk Eye's bra-toga skirt thing was pretty feminine as well.
@RobbyBevard:

I'd consider that an improvement (nothing against LGBTs, I just don't get Togashi's fascination with gender-bending).

Always did wonder why she didn't wear a skirt, like Pink.
I mostly remember it being weird that they kept saying "Wicked Awesome" in the dubs like they were from Boston or something.
