Not only that but to him, kids are stupid and even if he did let something like the Mugiwaras breaking through a Govt. Stronghold, he wont even mind. After all, in his eyes as long as blood or violence is cut out, the rest is okay XP. Skypea however is a different story now we know from seeing Grand Adventure that both Skypea and Davy Back Fight are being kept in.
OFFICIAL 4Kids Dub Discussion Mk. II: Alabasta Disasta
-
-
I'm sure that they'll just, you know, keep the World Government.
Honestly, by this point I think it's stupid to expect major plot changes.
-
I agree with Yash. expecting plot changes seem to stupid now. I remember before dubbed Arabasta aired, I always thought the war would be cut out but take a look, they kept it in hands down. So now, I dont expect any plot changes exceptfor some of the flashbacks like Ohara.
-
Warning: Spoilers
However, Arabasta is a rebellion against a kingdom, whilst Enies Lobby is a rebellion against an established government. Rebellions against kingdoms have been common. They're all over history (American, Russian, ect.), but whilst dubbies know that Arabasta is run by a king, they could assume that the World Government is run by a President (Or a few, in this case. However, I could be wrong, because Oda hasn't told us anything about the Five Elder Stars in this area.), thus comparing it to a government. If we continue along Kahn's line of thinking children are stupid and incapable of logic, it means that when kids think of government, their first thought would be the U.S or a President. If we follow along the imitation track of thought, an Arabasta-scale (Millions) rebellion would be incapable for kids to start due to lack of funds and infulenuce. However, and EL-scale (60, but will probaly seem like less since 4K will probaly downplay the Gally-La's and Franky Family's infleunce) could be possibile for kids to try.
In short: Rebellion against Kingdoms can be allowed on kids TV because they're different from a U.S-like government, but rebellion against a government would be frowned upon because of what I mentioned above (Khan thinks kids tie kingdoms to kings and goverments to presidents). In addition, it would be attacked by the media and politicians because of the volitale state of the country and they would probaly treat it as 'Inspiring kids to become terroists and rebels.'
Finally, I apoligize for the arguement falling apart at the end. I was working on it for 30 minutes and lost my train of thought.
-
I guess… But the dub does have the Straw-Hats constantly beating up the Navy (which children can consider as the "police" or somethin') and they seem to leave that in.

I guess… But the dub does have the Straw-Hats constantly beating up the Navy (which children can consider as the "police" or somethin') and they seem to leave that in.
However, at this point the dub has not connected the Navy ot the WG at all. So, if we follow Kahn's idea down, it means kids think the Navy and WG are two entirely different groups with different leaders, thus paving the way fro the Enies Lobby bucther to go through.
On the other hand, I may have, by this point, characterizied Kahn as too radical.

No One Piece (or anything on Toonami besides Naruto) on July 15th, due to a Naruto marathon.
Just wanted to say that.

has this been talked about, the original pic posted from Australia
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4561/bscap00006zs.jpg
but if you watch this:
the BG is red… what is going on? why isn't 4kids being consistent here O_o
-
Well… There have been MINOR diffrences between the U.S version and Australian/UK version in regards to edits (Or at least in that "Zero" episode)... However... Both of these links are from the Australian and UK versions so...
I don't know.
Here's Cinder's version (which came from that video...)
And this is the old one…
-
Hmmm…Cinder's version seems to have the background un-edited while the other into a sand like color..But yeah RomanGod, there are some minor differences in regards to that certain edit..
-
Are you sure it's not just a lousy screengrab?
-
I remember whoever posted the screen of the yellowish BG one said that the screen turned yellow instead of red
-
Wow, Toonami.com already has a new One Piece clip up for next Saturday's episode… Apparantly, "Nebra" is a "boogie-man" according to that rebel-wannabe kid.
http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/video/toonami/index.html
-
Don't you just love how shocked the people sound when he kicks the kid?
-
And of course, 'creep' is used again, 'boogie' is overused AGAIN, and they can't voice kids worth shit.
-
I finally did something nifty. I combined two clips together so you can watch them side by side. The english audio completely covers the japanese audio o.o;
I've been out the past week so Cinder, could you or anyone else who has it upload this file again? It's expired.
-

Remember the choking vs. grabbing the shoulder? >_>
-
Actually, last week that kid wasn't done as bad as they usually do kids. He acutally sounded somewhat closer to his age… a little... :getlost:
-
Oh man, four minutes and we're already overloaded with bad puns.
Smokey the Boar?
Chaser: They don't call me Chaser for nothing!
And of course the Sigfried and Roy line. -
NOOOOO
They changed Chopper's line. -
Line of the week.
Usopp: DON'T FIGHT IN HERE! THE NOISE WILL FREAK ME OUT!
-
Usopp: DON'T FIGHT IN HERE! THE NOISE WILL FREAK ME OUT!
Like your voice is freaky to begin with.
-
Lucky Ducky!?!?!
Is this One Piece or One Pun -
In thinking of Skypiea, I find it funny how much they seemed to have changed in edits since "Shaman King." I mean, come on. They even kept in the name "Arch Angels" in SK, so I'd say it's possible they could keep the Skypieans as "angels." Of course, SK ALSO kept in the guns (though they didn't shoot "bullets").
-
So many arm related puns in a five second window. And they didn't translate "Hana Hana"?
-
I can say whats worse, the Puns or those supersoaker guns from last week
But covering Robin's cleavage, I coulda saw coming. One Piece has to be FCC compliant

No they don't. Cartoon Network isn't covered by the FCC. The cleavage could've still been uncovered.
WHERE'D HE GET THE LOLLYPOP?!

I'm not sure. I doubt CN would allow it pre-Adult Swim. Also, I'm not sure but did this ep. air on Fox? 4kids has to make to clean just in case it was on a over the air broadcast channel.
-
Look at the American toons on CN. If I recall, there's been PLENTY of them that had cleavage.
-
Well… Regular clevage is allowed on CN... But Robin's clothes is pretty revealing so I'm not sure if that in paticular is allowed (at least in TV-Y7).
Decent episode. "Tweet-Tweet Fruit" was simply just stupid. However, leaving Robin's fruit as the "Hana-Hana Fruit" was unexpectd (well... when I heard it). But I'm not complaining.
Better they leave it than for them to name it the "Hand-Hand Fruit" or somethin'.
-
Ugh, Vivi yelling "Crocodile!" was one of the worst line deliveries I've ever heard, even for her. It sounded like she was reading it right from the script, syllable by syllable. So, it sounded like "Cro-co-diiiiiiiiile.".
-
I-am-Vivi-Bot-2000. How-may-I-run-the-country-for-you?
OFFTOPIC: I was on teamspeak tonight, and I played the Sogeking song. Needless to say, they were all pissed off. But I was laughing. :P

JP: Trap of Absolute End! Breaking into Rain DinnersDigital Edit:
"Casino" erased. (Image)Clip Edit:
When Luffy opens the doors, some close up gambling (slots, roulette, etc) is cut.Digital Edit:
A few things erased here, signs and letters within the casino. (Image)Clip Edit:
Luffy yells but people ignore him and continue playing. Some more close up gambling is removed, before Luffy yells a second time (which didn't do much). One more close up of gambling removed again, before Luffy yells a third time.
So then Usopp, Nami, and Luffy yell together for Vivi and Crocodile, and it cuts off before the camera moves to Zoro for a short second who says, "Oi!" (since Usopp and Nami were the ones didn't think yelling would lure them out)
Right after the above, another gambling shot gone.
A face shot of Luffy is removed after the Assistant Manager is told of the Straw Hats' presence.
Digital Edit:
A sign erased, this is when Smoker is stopped by the casino people.'Wild Cherry" on the sign is gone, after Smoker continues forward.
And "Jackpot", right after. Actually, a lot of other things are gone, like the other signs, the numbers on the paper bill and a man's poker chips. (Image)
Clip Edit:
The guards' heads crashing into the slot machines and tables after Luffy runs through them is cut out.Right after, Luffy asking himself if he ran into something is cut out.
Digital Edit:
Sign, Robin, sign, sign..Sign.. lots of them.
Ok… even the letters VIP are gone, but then they reappear when the people formally welcome the SH in. Signs erased.
There was no reason to redo the letters "VIP" (unless they really wanted to get rid of the dots separating the letters), but the kanji -> english is understandable. (Image)
This is the second time I noticed it (first time was when they were closing in on the sign at the end of the hallway) but it seems that the sign was lightened or smudged or something. (Image)
Clip Edit:
All is good until the part where Tashigi bows to Chopper is cut.Dialogue Edit:
After Smoker attacks Luffy for the first time in the cage, Usopp's story about taking down a Bombman (Mr. 5, Little Garden) is changed to taking down a giant bird on a giant mountain.// Kairouseki (Sea Agalmatolite) -> Sea Prism Stone
Clip Edit:
Usopp turning around to see Crocodile (everyone got to turn around but him, it seems) is cut out.Right after, the sight of Crocodile's chair through their point of view in the cage is cut out.
The part where Crocodile lifts his head (after Luffy looks to see him) is cut, so it's just a still picture of him.
Right after the above, a shot of Luffy is taken out.
A Baroque Works man backing up and falling is cut.
The camera showing the bottom half of Vivi's face rapidly breathing is gone.
When Vivi gets hit from behind, the scene changes before we see what hit her; the back of a gun.
Digital Edit:
This gun edit deserves to have a screenshot (its green color like the rest of the guns in Arabasta .. well there was one blue gun and it's lowered).Vivi gets the gun pointed at her face, which is erased. (Image)
A continuation of the edit two above, the man's arm is edited, and now it looks like he's aiming for Vivi's legs.BW on the man's shirt erased, this is when Pell is shooting at them for the first time.
Same thing, with different guy this time.
And again.
// Getting lazy with screenshots..
Clip Edit:
An image of Carue in Vivi's head is cut.A shot of Vivi and Pell in the same screen afterwards is also gone.
"BW" on a guy's hat.
Name Change:
Pell's Tori Tori (Bird Bird) fruit is the Tweet Tweet fruit.Digital Edit:
When the screen goes black and white, minus the green guns (thinks about Hililuk episodes) "BW" on a shirt erased.Clip Edit:
So, Miss Sunday appears and tries to take Vivi to Crocodile. Vivi is reminded about Crocodile and images form in her head. The one with Miss Sunday's face (when she boarded Going Merry) is gone.Name Change:
Miss Sunday's Tres Fleurs was Three Floret.Seis Fleurs -> Six Floret, see pattern? Good. No more of these mentioned until ones like Strangle come in.
// Ok, wow, Clutch. It wasn't "announced" when she does it but, it was announced before, as she tells Vivi what kind of attack it is.
Digital Edit:
Same "Casino" edit.
I find it very interesting that 4Kids added a stick to Luffy's impression of Sanji.Color Edit:
Wine edit to water. Yum! (Image)Maybe it isn't water afterall.
Wine, wine, wine.
// The only thing I'm impressed about in this episode is how Vivi's Peacock String Slasher keeps its name.
Clip Edit:
The last shot of the episode which was Vivi has been replaced with Crocodile's face. -
Smokey > Chaser.
Luffy's screams made my windows break.
-
OMG, GET A FREAKIN REPLACEMENT FOR VIVI ALREADY, THAT WOMAN CAN NOT ACT!
I'm sorry, but that just ruined the whole episode for me. She was sitting there, talking about Iggoram's death, and SHE DIDN'T SOUND SAD AT ALL! And there were SO many hand/arm jokes with Nico Robin, it wasn't even funny. We've finally been (somewhat) introduced to Robin and her powers, and her bad pun count has already risen to, like, 50 or something. On the other hand (omg, no, now I'm doing it…:getlost:) there were things in this episode that I was actually pleased with. I was surprised beyond belief that they kept Hane Hane, as well as the names of Robin's attacks in French. They even kept clutch, though the way the scene progressed, it looked like they tried to pull off the bone-breaking sound as her hitting Pell in the jaw. And Luffy's Sanji impersination, despite the fact that he was impersinating the dub Sanji, was funny to watch.
But Tweet-Tweet Fruit? C'mon, that was just stupid. And Ussop's VA seems to be getting bored with sticking the script, and seems to be dubbing Ussop based on what his character is doing at the time. (While 'swimming' in midair):"If there's water at the bottom, I'm good!" and "Don't fight in here, the noise will freak me out!" just cuz Ussop was covering his ears!
-
Pell's voice was kind of scratchy in this episode. I kind of liked his "Heroic" voice, though it reminded me of Dr. Orpheous from The Venture Brothers. And, I couldn't help but think of the "Who wants pizza roooooooooools?" line from Dub Piece.
-
Ummm…this episode has some of the weirdest dialogue I've ever heard. Especially when they're in the cage, and Chopper saying cutie pie over and over was just plain weird.
-
Why was he saying "cutie pie"? :/
-
Why was he saying "cutie pie"? :/
Actually, he was saying "She said I was a sweetie!" over and over again.
He should've been insulting her, though…
-
I watched last night's episode with my friend whose main knowledge of One Piece comes from me ranting to him about the edits. So with his little to no knowledge about the original script here's how it played out-
"He's one Lucky Ducky"
Friend: They were doing well (this scene) until that line now they just screwed it up.Insert half of Usopp's lines
Friend shakes his head"He ate the tweet twet fruit"
Friend: How stupid can you get (he acualy left the room at this point I had the reel him back)Luffy's lollipop
Friend: luaghing at how stupid it was"CROOOCOOOOOOOODIIIIIIIIILLLLLLEEEEEEE"
Friend: She can't actNote that I'm giving what he generally said(we were laughing to much) and not an exact quote, but nonetheless :getlost:
-
Here's something frightening.
The closest comic book store (which is sadly 15 minutes away) used to not sell One Piece manga (Viz) and now they sell that and the color walk.
Now here's the scary part. For a comic book store, they're selling the One Piece dub DVDs. Those are the only DVDs they're selling.
I guess One Piece is getting bigger then we thought?
-

I'm actually interested in seeing the stop fighting scene with her now, even though I don't watch the dub. It should be hilarious.
-
CROCODI (Yawn) ILE!
God damn she sucks at acting.
Croc was the best this episode. He definatly remiinds me of Clancy Browns work as Lex Luthor in JLU. -
Well, I watched the dub episode "Odd Numbers"
I must say, they couldn't have killed the "emotional" scene between Vivi and Toto anymore :\
Also, why did they leave in Crocodile's cigar smoke?
-
Don't know if this was posted. But here's a link to the cover of the 4th DVD.
-
And yet their info page for Vol. 2 continues to say "Luffy and Zoro"… As well as in the profiles section under the manga. XD
Vol. 4 seems to contain 5 episodes this time!
-
Just to tell you Throes, Volume 3 also had 5 episodes XD.
-
@Daisuke:
Just to tell you Throes, Volume 3 also had 5 episodes XD.
ORLY? That is interesting. They still don't have an info page for Vol. 3 on Viz's site…
-
Thought I'd throw out a link from one of my favorite comic strips, for today's is about One Piece:
-
@Skull:
I'm actually interested in seeing the stop fighting scene with her now, even though I don't watch the dub. It should be hilarious.
LMAO!!!! that would be hilarious, I cant wait. nut knowing the dub, they will probobly be playing paintball for the capital.
and beansdooma, that comic strip is funny. Its true tho, but I hate the people who watch the show and complain about it, I watch it for kicks. Some of the stuff is really funny(for fans of the real show) and the voice acting is laughably shitty.
I really dont care that one piece isnt popular over here. If you like it, thats all that matters. Id rather it be disliked than have narutards in the one piece community(although I think we already have some)
