The next version will be realised simultaneously with VS. Mode. All the Strawhats (and Franky) will be automatically unlocked, and I'm pretty sure that if you have already unlocked Bobobo or Pandaman, then they will be unlocked in this version. Grand Battle Mode will also be included (hopefully). And Mister 3 will be automatically unlocked (for now). Buggy, Kuro, Krieg, Arlong and Smoker will be unlockable through story mode, and Ace, Bon Clay, and Paulie will be unlockable through Grand Battle Mode. As for when, I'm hoping for a July release, but a good A.I. may be difficult for me, so it may be later that month. Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Im very sorry, I only had seemed to find your orignal first demos. I'll re-evaluate when I play the new one.

This is obviously your first game project so I'll try to keep that in mind, but as a fellow programmer and game designer I'm going to be honest. Its not very good at all. First off, did you even attempt to align any of the animations? They are so jumpy its hard to imagine you spent more than 10 minutes for any of these characters.
Secondly, you need to go back and replan your system idea.
You have a very big resolution issue. The resolution should NOT be handled in such a way. For some computers this may be a very slow way to do it. Id suggest sticking to 640x480 full screen or windowed. Note: what you have there is not true full screen, its strethcing over the entire desktop resolution which could cause alot of slowdown for older machines.
You need a complete presentation overhaul. The presentation is a MESS. You use stretched and ugly JPG screen caps as your story intro. Not to mention the font is barely readable on some of those. Make a font with a clear and dividing border around it.
The fighting system needs a redo. The way you are doing your attack damage is completely wrong. Dont base it on the time the attact is coliding with the person. Im also assuming you dont even have proper collision detection either. Code a system to detect zones of a player and deal with detection like that.
Thats just the beginning. Id also suggest youd download and view other game examples for Game Maker before trying to fix this. Though, I dont use programs like this, I code my own programs in C++, I'm sure theres many options for you to view examples online somewhere.
I hope you can turn aorund this doomed looking project, we need another One Piece fighter.

Wow…harsh. Ah, well, at least you are being honest. Anyway, I'll try to answer this one...
The animations will be redone later. Right now it's just basic attack animations, so people can get the hang of the game, and so I can get to the Enies Lobby Arc quicker.
As for resolution, the full screen seen here is the full screen of Game Maker. If someone wishes to start their own game using C++ or something similar go right ahead. And, I can't seem to find another fighter made with Game Maker, to base off of. If anyone has a link, I will try to learn to do a better coded fight system.
If anyone has a better idea for between mission for story intros, please post it, or PM me.
As for damage system, this only temporary. If someone can do a better damage system, please tell me. I hope that answers all questions. After Enies Lobby, I will go back, and fix all mistakes with the game (or at least try to).
Thats another mistake. Make a solid engine before you decide to make any additional levels. Using the 'put out the fires' method is the worst way to approach any sort of large scale project like this. Make ONE level to test things with, build the entire beta engine there, then make more levels.
For damage, your going to have to setup independant variables to hold damge data. How muche ach and every one does. Its also wise to use modifiers to calc stat effects for damage before damage is done.
I suggest looking it up, I cant keep telling you hwo to solve every problem. It would take way to long.
Look, we're doing the best we can with what we have available to us and what we know. Most computer games out there release the game first, and fix up glitches later through patches and updates.
Those glitches are found in the extended trial user stages. You are not at a trial user stage. You are not at a beta stage even.
The point is increase what you know with SMALL projects first instead of trying to tackle something like this. You are doing the best you can, yes, but also that best isnt enough to sucessfuly pull off a project of this size with any where neer official quality. As they say, start small and work your way up.

Alright, I was thinking of doing this awhile ago so here it is…
I am hearby taking a break from the One Piece Game, and giving control to whoever wants it. I will still contribute, but there's too much pressure at the moment, and if someone else could do a better job, it would be better for the project. I just want a nice, relaxing summer, so I'll post everything I have done so far as a Game Maker File, and whoever wants to take control can have it.

I am going to download the file and see if I can sort through this stuff. It is often quite difficult to dive right into half-finished code. HOWEVER, this is not me signing up to do this. Please do not take it that way. I will, however, give it a shot and see if it is salvageable by someone new. I would, however, like to give a hoorah and thanks to those that worked on it so far, however, and for all their hard work - you guys really did spend a lot of time on this.
If I do take over this, however, I am going to change directions a bit. It will be more quality as opposed to quantity, and if I do take over this you can expect that my first demo will be ONLY one or two characters pieced together a little better as opposed to many done less "well" (basically taking Mr.Diamond's advice). I may also change the fighting system a bit (damage ratios, the math required to find them, attacks included and what attacks do a bit) but I do not want to change the original vision too much - it is not my place to do so.
I would like to ask of Bear+Shark4Ever and Megadoomer to give me all the sources they used for sprites - the firs tthing I'm going to try to do is sprite overhaul.
Once again, this does NOT mean I am taking over this project for sure. However, a lot of time went into this project and I don't want to see it die. I am willing to give it a fighting chance, but I can promise ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I have plenty of my own projects to work on, too.

Most sprites were from http://neuropod.net/SDB/. Whitebeard and the Doogongs were shrunken down, edited screenshots, and not proper sprites. Franky, Mr. 3, and Mr. 7 were my (not so good) custom sprites. The Unluckies were by Megadoomer. Megadoomer is also currently working on a Kaku sprite sheet.

A thought on the damage– why not a matrix-- each row representing a character, and each column each possible attack on the character. You get the base damage from there, and then use a multiplier if there's some effect in play like a shield?
Major benefit: Different people respond to attacks differently. I could see, for example, a punch doing 10 damage to Sanji doing 3 damage to Arlong, 1 to Krieg, and zero to Smoker.
First of all, I'd love to take this up but I have my own plans for future games. Though I will say it involves a fighter, and it involves One Piece.
Secondly, I recomend anyone picking this game up should concider throwing the old engine out entierly.
As far as a matrixgoes for attack damage; the attacks of each character are sub divided into chains, which are sub divided into hits. Youd need an attack stat for every hit. Because the raster doesnt have the same number of hits per attack, or attacks per character for that matter, a matrix would be wasted space, and a bit inefficient. It would be more work then its worth, especialy since all players will not be active at once ayway.
What you want to do is make a class for each character, and (if GM does this, I wouldnt know) have an object hierarchy setup to handle common functions on a higher level. Virtual soem functions to handle things differently for everyone and you got a nice system for playables. Again, I doubt GM can do things like that (it is a C++ technique for sure), but its something to look into. Even doing it in C++ is a good course of action.
I am sad to say that I have bitten off far more than I can chew by considering taking this project. I gave it a week of looking over and honestly, I have had no time to do anything with it - due to several family projects starting up, me not spending much time at home during the summer, and my first-priority project of finishing writing my book, I have had little time to even look over this project - not to mention that I do not have much experience reading other people's code and (for some reason that I have been unable to remedy) my computer has problems testing the game and crashes whenever I try to. As such, I can not accept responsibility for this project and I hope that someone more skilled and with more time than I can take over.

is the vs mode on the game yet because if not i think im nearly done with two player on my game both online and two on one computer so when im finished if someone could upload the gm6 i could do something with the game plus clean it up abit

EDIT: ive downloaded the version from page 18 of this topic, from free webs. it took like 20 minutes to download, and ive waited like 15 (not exaggerating) for it to open, but it just didnt. it was stuck at the logo point. my whole computer froze up, and i had to restart it. i tried a few more times, but to no avail. please also tell me what to do.
thats one thing that i will be fixing but at the moment theres no way you can get around because it depends on your computer ram size

You know, I'm surprised you guys haven't tried fighter maker. It's by the guys who made RPG maker. It's really for beat em ups, but you should be able to make an SSB style game with it. Best bit is, it's really easy to use, and the entire system is all set up for you. All you have to do is add your sprites, bg's etc. You WON'T get any of those jumpy sprites, and you can set up proper collision boxes. I'd like to help but I'm kinda busy right now, but if you want, I can host it, the help files, and an example game. Trust me, it's waaaay better than game maker for something like this, and it's free.
It's been suggested before, and there is no way to make a Story Mode based off of the manga using Fighter Maker.
When you say story mode, do you mean like a side scroller, or just a sequence of fights with cutscenes in between?
The story mode is a sequence of fights with cutscenes in between going throught the story from the begining

The newest version of fighter maker can do that, then. Unlike Game maker, the entire game system is already set up in fighter maker. You just have to change it however you want and add characters, stages, missions, cutscenes etc.
