One Piece fangame, SSB style

I'm planning to make a game like Super Smash Brothers, only with One Piece characters, using GameMaker version 6. The characters that I know I'm putting in the game are the 7 Straw Hat Pirates and Franky. Does anybody have suggestions for characters or stages? They can be from any point in the manga. Also, if anybody can help in any way, such as making sprites, or even characters, please do so.

Kidding… don't stress yourself, if I were you I'd just make this 1 game with the 8 characters you got now, see how it goes, and if it's good enough, make a second part with more characters

As for stages, have atleast 4 different ones availible (Games are hard to make, so you don't wanna stress yourself out)

But before anything, make a proto-type game with Luffy and Zoro only and have them fight on the straw hat ship, have people test it out like a demo and have them give their reviews, comments, and suggestions

if you want to make a story mode i could think of dialouge for the characters to say before the match. (and just sayings before too.) On gamemaker/mugen is it possible to add voice actors to the game

It's possible to add voice actors to Game Maker, but I'm not sure if the same goes for M.U.G.E.N. Luckily, I'm using Game Maker, because it's easier to put characters, levels, movie clips, etc. into the game.

A suggestion I would offer is that you at least wait until the end of the current arc before you start working on moves, so we can at least see what CP9 is capable of.

i totally forgot before we start writing story scripts you need to make unlocking conditions so i know who can be the final boss. Also bellamy would be awesome. Did you add stages to the game if not here are some suggestions

Oh man…having one battle field on top of a moving sea train (see Franky vs Nero battle) would be really neat! But perhaps would it be too challenging to depict as everything would be moving? (rain and the sea in the bg etc..)

With the background, you can "cheat".

If you look at a game like Sonic II, the background can just be a handful of frames, but it can provide the effect of pouring rain or moving waves. As long as there's not an obvious identifiable "this happens every 15 seconds" to spoil it.

yeah thats weird it was working fine yesterday but until last night it was fudged up. They update their sites every sunday night and so maybe it still down from being uploaded. That or they switched/updating serves

Perhaps you could make story mode go in order of the series? If you want one all-encompassing story, you could have the fights in order, beginning with Luffy VS Buggy and ending with Luffy VS Lucci? Or if you were to have a story for each person, you have their most recent fight (in the case of a Mugiwara) or the Mugiwara they fought/have a rivalry with (in the case of villains) and up until then have their cronies or whatnot.

All that aside, how hard is Game Maker to use? I'm interested in messing around with it. If I understood it, perhaps I could assist in your creation of the game.

Hey everyone, let's be reasonable. This person does not have the resources, the time, or the budget to make a SUPER GREAT GAME with all these characters like you want him too. I know you're just making suggestions, but just don't expect much or you'll end up putting pressure on him and odds are the entire game project will be cancelled.

I just ask that you just cut this dude some slack if it's not as good as you hope.

There's probably not going to be a story mode for the demo, but what kind of story mode would you rather have for this game? A story mode like One Piece: Grand Battle, where you fight three random people, a mini-game, and two more random people, or a story mode that follows the events of the manga? If you'd prefer the second option, there may be a story mode, but it would just go up to the end of the Buggy arc.

He's almost done, and I'm working on Luffy. Usopp still needs 1 move and his support character, while Luffy still needs one move and his support character. Usopp should be done by the end of the day, if I'm lucky. In case you're wondering, the demo is going to have Luffy and Usopp in it, and the stages are going to be the Going Merry and Little Garden. Here are the moves that the two playable characters will have.

Luffy: Gum Gum Pistol, Gum Gum Gatling, Gum Gum Balloon, Gum Gum Axe
Usopp: Lead Star, Usopp Pound, Impact Dial, Flash Dial

Those are going to be the moves that you have to press buttons for in the final game (i.e. press the spacebar to use Usopp's Lead Star, or Luffy's Gum Gum Pistol). In the final game, there's also going to be an item that lets them use their ultimate attack (i.e. Luffy's Gum Gum Storm, Zoro's Three-Thousand Worlds, etc.). As well, I didn't mention their support characters, but they're going to be in the demo and the full version.

Also i forgot what you said are you making a mugen game. If so maybe insted of gamemaker we could use mugen and you guys could team up. Just throwing suggestions out there.
