Robin After Enies Lobby

I had a thought from the new chapter. Much of Robin's problems stemmed from years of being betrayed and fear the Straw-Hats would do likewise, correct? That's no longer the case, now that Luffy and the others have made their feelings as clear as possible.

This leads me to wonder, is it possible that, after Enies Lobby, Robin might open up more to the crew? We may see a slightly lighter Robin than we're used to, now that she knows the crew believes in her, she may let her guard down some. I think, anyway.

She's easily the most silent of the bunch (second perhaps only to Zoro) and has often been seeing off to the side when the crew partakes in parties, games, and celebrations.

I've always had the image in my head that, after this was all done, and the crew is having their days long victory party, Luffy would drag Robin into the festivies whether she liked it or not and make her eat, drink, and be merry. Now though I wonder if she might do so of her own free will.

Anyway, this was just a random thought I had regarding the recent developments. What d'you guys think?

she'll definitely be happier, but i would rather have robin still sit in the corner, alone, smiling, while her friends are dancing like idiots. being reserved is just her personality, and i'd like oda to keep it that way.

after all, that's the thing that made me fall in love with her <3

And, as stupid as it may sound, I am so looking forward to the that! This has to be a very emotional scene…I can see it in front of my eye, once CP9 is reduced to dust Luffy will say something like "we're done, let's leave" and Robin, now joining the crew for the second time, agrees, calling him by his name!

I'd like it if robin still stayed her old quiet self because that's what I always liked about her,like me she would rather read a book instead of drinking and partying like the rest of them.

If she does do a drastic 180 then let's hope it's only for the time being and not the rest of the series.

Yeah, I wouldn't think a full 180 in terms of personality. But she might be a bit more willing to join in with the crew's more amusing antics once in a while (like that side-bit where the crew played music to attract fish and got giant rainbow eels).

Although I love Robin the way she is…I, even if it's just for a moment, even if it's just a dream or if Luffy has to get her drunk first, at some point, would actually like to see that...it would be very weird, but still funny.

come to think of it, I don't think oda even able to draw robin silly face ( u know, like chopper "really???" face, etc) the only faces of her we've seen so far are smiling face, serious face, and crying face, that's all=)

This reminds me of those times in the manga when Robin would say something like "We should put out this campfire so that no one jumps us" and then Usopp and Luffy would act as though she fails at life. I'd imagine she'll learn a lot about being a pirate before the end of the series. _

Anyway, what everyone else said – I think she'll be more open with everyone else, just not a potential candidate for Girls Gone Wild or anything.

That's a really interesting question…we've already seen a slightly more emotional side to Robin this arc than we have before. The most I'm looking forward to is to have her call the crew by name.

I don´t think that she will change that much. After all even when she was silent she was enjoying her stay with the Strawhats. That´s a given. It´s within her character that she´s more the silent one as much as everyone of the others has his/her special characteristic.

But I do think that it could happen that she starts to call the others by name. And yes, she needs to revive the Dereshi laugh.

I relly don't see her as the drinking, shouting, jumping and dancing around type of person. Yeah, surelly she will have a much lighter mood about her, but that doen't mean her personality will completly change. As e1n said, its just who she is.

I only see her dereshing, if it really hurts. She doesn't do that, when it's fun. (The only time she dereshi'd for fun was in Chapter 392). So something really bad must happen, forcing her to do that.

Nami turned back to her old self after her trust and betrayal arc, Robin will probably too. Although, naturally she will be more developed and, yeah, Dereshi is a must.

Either that or she must have a completely free and careless soul to laugh like that. Just as it was the case when Saul tought her to laugh more. But to get that far her demons must get surpassed which still lies ahead of her.

Isn´t that what she always does? I mean that is the only real contribution as a pirate crewmate she´s making. The whole ocean in the sky thing immediately pops into my mind.

True. Without her the Strawhats would never had known about Skypiea. And I think, Robin didn't tell them something about the True History and the Poneglyphs, because she didn't want to endanger them with this knowledge.

I'd prefer her to stay the same. Be a little more open maybe, but keep her quiet and reserved personality. Its what makes her unique.

I'd love to see a scene where she drinks with the straw hats, and begin "dereshi'ing" at their silly behavior - like Chaka, Cobra and Igaram, at the royal feast. Luffy will go "What a cool laugh!" And the Straw Hats will all Dereshi' into the night.
After that, she will most likely go back to her calm, book-reading self; I don't think she'll even call them by their names. However, I think she will display her affection for the crew much more opnenly, f.x. were they in danger.

Robin is the olny Straw-Hat crew who never get silly faces like when Nami gets mad; he purpils disappears, and her theeth is quirky sharp and her head sometime enlarge. Robin don't need to do that, if she does that would ruin the character that makes her an unqiue character.

Before Arlong arc, Nami was mean, bitchy, money-greedy, angery girl. After Arlong, Nami still acts that way. Robin will stay the same and I prefer her that way. The olny thing that would change is she would finally commuticate with her crews and aviod future deals with enemies. Still Robin will be Robin: Silent, mature woman who never have silly faces and who olny talks when something important or intersting happened.

I wonder why she never says dereshi since she frist appeared in chapter 114? Maybe Oda did not thought that up that time so now should be the time to start bringing back after this arc.

It seems that Robin has lost her 'need' for 'dereshing'... because now she'll be REALLY happy, she doesn't need to bring happiness with a laugh, she can have it just staying with them...maybe the Dereshi thing was just a child way to remember and be hopeful...'.' ..bah..I dunno, Robin is a better/happier person now anyway.

But we will probably see her do some things that she may open up a bit, and be overall a little more involved in the interests of the crew rather than her own. I do hope she'll start calling everyone by their real names at least some of the time, although I think her formalities are sort of cute. Especially when she calls Usopp nagapana-kun. Still don't know why he's the only one who is "kun" instead of "san".

She never laugh "dereshi" because there's no motive to Oda show it. She has not laughed even once before in the series before, so there's no motive for Oda to show her laugh. After all, this is part of her past, and Oda was waiting the right moment (as always).

My mother tells me that I was born with a natural talent for storytelling. I don't know if I believe her. I do know that people don't seem to get stories very often.

If you look at the entire mechanics of the story from Alabasta on, you'll see that Robin's flashback has the most dramatic impact if it happens here. Would people have cared so much if she'd revealed it on, say, Sky Island? No. It would have had no place in the Foxy fight. And if we knew the flashback already, even if the strawhats didn't, it would have detracted a lot from the rooftop scene.

Very true. One thing about Oda and his flashbacks is they're often timed for the best points. I'm sure of this because nearly every flashback starts off with people thinkign "Not now!!!" then later thinking "It's over already!!". And I've always liked hwo the Drum Flashback occured while Luffy was literally mid-punch.

I really want to see Robin re-pick up the dereshi laugh again. Other than that, yeah, she's been a quiet woman for how many years now ? Old habits are hard to break, you know. :E I don't see her personality changing, just the laugh, heh.

Robin has sort of laughed before, but not a full, heartfelt laugh, more like a little chuckle.

Has anyone else wondered what her "dereshi" laugh will sound like when it is voiced in the anime? I just can't picture her VA (who is perfect for her, I think) making that sound. I also can't wait to hear her voice as a child.

Robin's place as the level headed crew member won't change. She's always been somewhat mysterious, but I think now that the crew presumably knows her past she'll have less of a need to keep that air. She'll probably stay similar, but I think people will be more warm towards her. Keep in mind we're probably getting a new crew member out of this (probably Franky, too), and there will be a new ship to adjust to, so the way she's fitting in afterwards might differ but not distractingly so, against the backdrop of all the new scenery.

She would probably work with them a lot better now, like i see her sitting up on the crows nest, and actually tell Luffy when she sees a new island etc..
There has to be some change, she trusts them with her life now.

I don't really see too many Dereshi's coming. It's a very private thing, so I don't see her laughing like that when she's happy, and it would be very inappropriate to do (in the eyes of others) when, say, a nakama was dying.

I always assumed it was supposed to sound really odd and out of place. I thought that was sort of the point of having an odd laugh in the first place.

I really can't see her breaking out that laugh for any reason what so ever, but I can see her laughing a regular laugh out loud (which would sound weird Robin laughing o.0) .

But I could see her helping out the crew in more ways then one by providing info on things they like she could probably help Usopp perfect new weapons. And also help Franky become a cyborg from the back.

Yeah, I like those scenes with Robin and Franky "hanging around" in the sea train or in EL. :biggrin: Imho Oda created with Franky the completely opposite of Robin. They have nothing in commom, but the fact, that they're hunted by the goverment, because of the antique weapons.
I would like to see, how this will develop.
