Does Oda-sensei work on any other projects outside of the manga or is he too busy to take on anything else, right now?
I was wondering, because usually popular artist get lots of offers to do side projects like Videogame character design, or anime character design once their popularity reaches as high a level as Oda-sensei's has by now.
Then again, the weekly shounen Jump schedule is hellish so maybe he just turns them down, because he's too busy.
Ararara..does anyone know?
Oda's work besides OP?
-
-
Check out the manga "Wanted!" contain some of his earlier works. He said he might make a Robot series when he ends One Piece. (Will take Forever and a day.)
-
I would kill to see Oda do character designs for a video game series like in Dragon Quest but that would never happen at least not soon, maybe in a decade.
-
Chances are, One Piece is taking up most of his Time for things like that. when One Piece Ends We'll probabily see stuff like that.
However, he isn't involved in the Movies' Stories, but He does all of the character designs. also, I heard a Rumor that he Wrote Movie 4: Dead End no Bouken -
that movie was made based on an OP novel Oda wrote himself. there are 3 or 4 others, me thinks.
-
Oda writes novels of one piece too?! damn he must be very busy
-
@Wikipedia:
At the age of 17, he submitted his work "Wanted" and it won several awards. At the age of 19, he worked as an assistant to Nobuhiro Watsuki on the manga Rurouni Kenshin. During this time, he drew two one shots of One Piece, called Romance Dawn (note: the first chapter of One Piece is also called this).
Btw, I believe it was mentioned somewhere that Zoro's character is an homage to Rurouni Kenshin.

He writes novels? That's a very amusing fact
-
i don't know if he writes it himself, but the story ideas are his and he (of course) draws some pages of it.
-
Wasn't he an assisstant that worked on the Kenshin manga? I know that the Straw Hat Jolly Roger showed up in one part. Don't have any pics of it though.

Indeed, Oda was an assisstant on Kenshin,
-
Oh geez! Could you please tell me from which volume of Kenshin that page is?
-
Somebody has the EXACT page where it appears in their sig, but I cannot remember who.
However, the page I posted is from the Revenge Arc. I think it's shortly after the first fight with Enishi's gang.
-
squeals new discovery!
but you know, i think i read somewhere that most of the Kyoto arc characters (especially that ninja clan thingy - forgot the name xD) were Oda's design.

Think this is where Oda got his idea for Buggy Balls? Read back on this at the begining of his manga for refference maybe?

I still have to read that arc then ;)

While on this line of reference discussion, does anyone have a clip of Bo-Bobo summoning Yugi Motou from his hair who in turn summons Osiris no Tenkuuryuu?
-
that is awesome! i read something about there being a straw hat jolly roger in the kenshin manga… i knew that oda helped w/ kenshin though... what did he do exactly?
also, no wonder the kyoto arc is so badass ;p
...wonder if we'll ever seen animated versions of Wanted! any of those stories in there would be awesome
-
that bomb was actually made by watsuki not oda. That apperaed in vol 19 and oda already started one piece by then. Also who were the other assiantants of kenshin
Oda
shaman king guy
?
?i also heard rave masters mangaka was an assiatant but im not sure if that is right
-
The Rave Master artist was an assistant of Oda, not Watsuki.
-
shaman king guy
Hiroyuki Takei.
As far as what Oda-sensei did as an assistant, Mangaka assistants usually help out by drawing some bgs, doing some of the inking(usually the really tedious little things like all those speed lines, and stuff like that. They don't have any imput on the actual manga storyline or characters from what I understand.
-
I think in the Kenshin Kaden Artbook-thing there's an interview or something like that with Oda about Watsuki and his time as his assistant..there's also a pretty scary picture of Oda-style-drawn Kenshin in it as far as I remember. I should search my Kaden and look it up.
-
oh, i think i have that book! obviously since its in japanese i had no idea what was going on, but i knew that it was about oda.
-
I've got a german one.
So, there's a (very little) Oda profile mentioning Wanted and One Piece.
Then Oda tells us, that Watsuki is both his master as well as his friend. He says that he liked Kenshin and since they were looking for people he tried to get the job (well and obviously got it). He says he was impressed by Watsukis height and eyes and that he reminds him of samurai and that he's unsure wether Watsuki likes Japan or the US more…
Next part is Oda talking about Kenshin. He likes that Kenshin asks the question most shounen manga ignore (Why do they actually fight?) and that his favourite character is Kenshin.
Finally there's that Oda-style-Kenshin-image as well as a message to Watsuki. He says Watsuki's done a good job, Oda lived with him for 4, 5 days of the week and has never seen him sleep, he always finished the chapters last minute and now Watsuki deserves a rest, but hopefully starts a new manga soon or something like that.
