Besides either Franky or Pauly (1 of the 2 joining the Straw Hats), who else might join them?
Anyone have any good theories on that?

Well seeing as how the Franky Family and the Galley-La Foremen are all fighting alongside the Strawhats right now, its entirely possible for anyone of them to join up with the crew. Also, in one of the recent chapters when storming Enies Lobby, a government official asked the FF if they were with the Strawhats and I believe it was Zambai who answered yes.
I think it is entirely possible, though unlikely, that all of the Franky Family and maybe even Galley-La would join the crew. If the Strawhats got a serious boat upgrade, it shouldn't be a problem having so many new crewmembers. But I don't really think this will happen as Oda tends to really develop his main characters and dozens of mostly unnamed characters all of a sudden joining the crew just doesn't seem to be Oda's style.

It's not possible. Each strawhat must have a dream.. and the guys you mentionred don't.
Well, the problem is a larger ship will by definition need a larger crew to operate it. It might end up like any of the other big crews we meet where we have a handful of "real" players, and many faceless masses.
Or if the W7 region becomes at risk for Buster Call, they might choose to evacuate with the Strawhats in a new ship, and at least stick around for an arc (perhaps something like how Vivi gets stuck dealing with the Drum arc because the crew is distracted on the way to her little quest)
Bon Kurei could be fun, and also very useful for espionage, passing himself off as a member of another crew.
It's not possible. Each strawhat must have a dream.. and the guys you mentionred don't.
How do you know none of them have their own dreams? In a recent SBS, Oda said that the Franky Family was made up mostly of people who had failed their exams to become a shipwright. If that's true, I'd say most of the Franky Family dream to become a real shipwright which is exactly what the Strawhats were looking for upon arriving at Water 7.
Just in case the you want to check what others said on that or if the mods are looking for the old threads to merge them, here´s the links:
We need Vivi and Caraou back i love that duck
i think that some kind of priest will join them next and his dream will be something like: "I have to spread the belef in God trough the whole world….."
i also thought that some kind of magican maight join them but that is way too unOda like. or som musican.... with guitar-gun loaded with al kinds of different stuff...something like wolfwoods crucifix from Trigun anime
Well, as I said it in the other threads the dream of the priest could be to find something like a cure to Devil Fruits. Seeing it that guys like Crocodile, Bellamy, Wapol etc. use their powers only to make others suffer that would be the perfect motivation for a priest to find such a cure or antidote.
I really want to see a priest to fill one of the remaining three positions. But unlike the helmsman and the musician which I´m sure about they´ll join, I´m not that convinced that a priest would be the one.
I think Rockstar is going to join the strawhats at some point. All this talk about Luffy wanting a musician and then Rocksar appearing, doesn't seem like a coencidence to me.Even though he is a red-hair, I think he will leave them to join luffy.

Well, one problem with that, is if Franky joins, then you've got two people with the same voice actor in the crew. XD I think if Oda had hinted that there's a possibility for Bon-chan to join the crew, he would tell them to choose a different voice actor, since he seems to have some control over that aspect.
It's not possible. Each strawhat must have a dream.. and the guys you mentionred don't.
What's Bon Kurei's dream? And what role on the ship would he fulfill? I don't see it happening, personally.

You know this might actually be an interesting possibility if Rockstar would actually be an interesting character. But he just seems to dull to qualify as a Strawhat IMO.

While that is true we've seen very little of him. All we saw of him was on Whitebeards ship. There is still chance for him to appear "stwawhat like".

That was already enough to display him as a dork. I´m not saying that it´s not possible, but he somehow doesn´t strike me as if he´s going to have an awesome personality.
Man, why would he go from Shanks' gang to Luffy's? That's like the ultimate demotion.
Rockstar seems like he cant follow orders all that well and overreacts alot of times. Doesnt really have the strawhat personality.
edit- what I meant was he would probably have disagreements with Luffys leadership skills.
up to this point i think franky has the biggest chance to join
he is interesting
he is a good shipwright and he can also be a musician
the SHP cant also afford to get a weak guy so zambai is out i think, in the coming seas i think the SHP needs some powerful guy to help in battles just how or in some relation to the power lvl of sanji and zoro
but then again, other than franky, maybe… hmmm one of the cp9? they are shipwrights after all
@Cap'n:

Not if it's near the end of the series. when the Strawhats become a acute threat to the world government. Something might happen to shanks and his crew that causes him to join luffy.

**To me it seems like Rockstar can follow orders perfectly. I mean he went to look for whitebeard, If thats not followong orders than I don't know what is.
YEs he might have disagreements. But even Zoro had disagreements with Luffys decions before, but that doesn't mean he doesn't do it.**
I honestly think that Rockstar was given a bad rep because we've only seen how he reacted to being treated like worthless crap by whitebeard and whitebeard's crew.

**My sentiments exactly. And in fact compared to how most people would react in front the the Whitebeard, Rockstar was doing great. I mean he is pretty much the strongest man in the world. Not many people could be standing there in front f that man without shaking the whole time.
Not to mention (judging from bounty) he is far in terms of strengh from Newgate.**
It's also possible that he has a specific reason for not enjoying being treated like crap, like a childhood trauma or something we don't know about. I mean so far, every main character has a flaw of some kind.
And also, Rockstar actually seemed pretty loyal and fine with following orders. I mean he was rejected by the strongest man in the world, and when he contacted Shanks, he still wanted to try again so he could accomplish the mission he was set out on. He acknowledged his failure and very badly wanted to fix it, but Shanks told him not to.
Plus, in my opinion he seemed friendly and I don't think Shanks would let just anyone join his crew, especially not a lamer since the guy seems to be all about having a good time.

I was judging the following orders by how he second guessed Shanks. Its been awhile though since I saw Rockstar can someone tell me the chapter?**
Since everyone's guess is only around franky
i'd thought i'd be controversial and say SPANDAM!!!!!!!
he'd be a good joker on board XD XD
here's some background, Spandam accidentally called Buster Call which grounded Enies Lobby
so he had no choice but to join the pirates and he got 100m b on his head for single handedly destroying Enies Lobby XD XD
ok i should stop being lame

**He didn't really second-guess red-hair. Besidees you can't expect him to perfectly accept everything shanks says.
it's in chapter 234.**
A merwoman who loves Sanji, but Sanji doesn't love her. She hits on him, like Sanji hits on Nami and Robin. That would be ironic.
Just to mock Naruto. (Actually, I'm kidding)
That's who I think will join at some point.

The problem with a priest is that it would just be a "Journey to the West" Knockoff if a priest joined.
Think about it:
A "Monkey" King (Luffy)
A Priest
A Demon Hunter (Zoro)
A Water Kappa (Sanji)
Sanji reminds me of Sha Gojyo so much it isn't even funny.
Zoro doesn't really remind me of Cho Hakkai, but people do refer to him as a "man who has become a demon".
Luffy is the epitome of Son Goku. He's lazy, he's ridiculously strong when he's pissed off, he's always hungry… Yeah, that just has Son Goku written all over it.
Here's my potential list for those that could join the Mugiwara:
Tashigi: 60% chance. She has a dream of finding all the Metsu in the world and ensuring they don't fall into the wrong hands, she would be the perfect person for Zoro to train (Since she looks so much like Kuina), and since Zoro can never fight her, it'd be interesting to see her being his disicple.
Rockstar: 40% Chance. The problem is, we don't know much about him, just that he has a 90 million bounty, and Whitebeard really pissed him off.
Vivi: 80% Chance. Though peace now reigns in Alabasta, Vivi had a dream of seeing all the people of the world getting along. Her cultural and political knowledge of the Grand Line would be invaluable to the Mugiwara as they get closer to Marijoi. I'm sure she'll rejoin the Strawhats sometime soon.
Paulie: 70% Chance. If Paulie joins, though, he'll probably bring the Franky Family and Galley-la with him, making for a pretty full ship. He'll have no reason no to, however, as after literally destroying Enies Lobby, he'll be a wanted criminal.
Ace: 40% Chance. I think Whitebeard will do something horrible in the coming Arcs that will cause Ace to lose faith in him, and end up joining his own brother. Of course, that would cheesify the manga, cause if Ace and Luffy were together, they'd be practically unstoppable.
Goldenweek: 20% chance. No, it's not likely to happen, but I'd love to see it happen. She'd amuse the hell outta chopper and Usopp and probably have fun messing with Luffy.

i think u forgot franky?
I think expecting a character we all know to come back is
You'd need to make the crew, who already know these characters, all scream out "We need a Vivi or a Goldenweek or a…" and rig a way to meet them again, which would require them to progress FASTER than the Strawhats did.

Entirely possible, all things considered.
Vivi reads the paper a lot, she could get an eternal pose from someone, head straight to Water 7, Water 7 tells her what the hell's going on, she goes to Enies Lobby.
Pretty simple.
Btw, I didn't include Franky in my list because Franky's already confirmed. The people I listed are not confirmed.
I would say it all depends on the size of the new ship…here's my take:
If the ship is big : It wouldn't surprise me if everyone involved in the Enies Looby showdown would join. (but Oda did say that he's having trouble with just 7 so far) but if everyone did join...I can see Luffy's status being elevated to an even higher level.
If the ship is small : Then it will just be either FRANKY or Paulie. Though I want Franky so much, I will leave it to Oda to decide who goes n who stay...

Franky has been confirmed… Everyone seems to fail to remember the full color spread: CP9 vs. Mugiwara... Franky is pictured with the Mugiwara. Oda wouldn't draw that if it wasn't true.
Personally, I think the ship WILL Be big, and all of Galley-la will be aboard. It would really balance things out and Make Luffy have the officers he wanted, along with a regular crew, like most pirates.

Having someone join that late would suck actually. Luffy´s crew should be completed before the last couple of arcs come. If someone joins during or at the end of the final arc, then he somehow doesn´t get attached to the reader as all the other protagonists do.

A priest can easily join without giving the story any resemblances to what you just said. That is your personal interpretation of things.
If you look back at colonial times which was when pirates were around, then actually almost every ship had some sort of priest aboard. Some where part necessary to bring the word of god to those "uncivilized" cultures other ships just had priest with them so that the crew would feel safer. Even lots pirate ships had pirate priest along with them. You can´t actually imagine the sailing back then without a religious person aboard.

I wish Waipa would join the strawhats taht be aweosme he be like uisng reject and blwoing shit outta people or if they took the monkey outof the davy back fight
Having all the FF join would suck since they'd really cramp the SH style. What do they need them for? Their new ship will be bigger than the Going Merry but it won't be gigantic so they won't need many to sail it. Their fighting skills are close to nonexistent compared to the other SH. And I shudder to even imagine how the daily life of the SH would look if their were a couple of dozen bystanders who have nothing to do except to laugh at the antics of one of the true SH. It would just suck.
Since there was never even one word wasted on religion in 396 chapters I don't see what they'd need a priest for.
Recruiting failed existences like Rockstar from other pirates would be a real disappointment. Every SHmember is unique there is no reason why they should suddenly start garbage collecting.
And I'm against any random characters coming back. There is no way Oda could answer the how and the why and the are you frigging out of your mind to my satisfaction.
Therefore I'm in the mermaid musician as next and last crewmember after Franky camp. They can gather her up on their way to Jinbei or whatever he was called or when they visit the Isle of the mermaids, which oght to be Sanji's paradise ^_^
Also I don't see Luffy wanting to take someone else from another persons crew. Remember he would'nt take a shipwright during the Davy Back Fight. The only way I can see Luffy getting a pirate from someones crew is if that persons former crew had been wiped out somehow.
As for Ace, I think that if Whitebeard were ever to die for some reason he would name Ace his successor.

I bet when Shanks started out he didn't need the extra hands (just my assumption) but…what made him get a bigger crew?? Its the ship...it wouldn't be real if they (SH) has a bigger ship but maintains the same amount of crew at which adding Franky in would be 8. Unless u r telling me that their ship is powered by a computer at which I will gladly accept with just 8-9 crew members. Furthermore, who is to say that the extra hands (FF) wont be funny??? I can totally see some really funny moments...Snow ball fight, peeking at Nami & Robin, singing, battle ship with the marines,
Well, all this is just my thought. If all doesn't make sense then...I would assume that the ship they will get will be of a medium size one at the end of this arc. This is more fitting for a crew of 8-9 people

You seem to forget that Enel´s Maxim was able to work without any crew at all. True it required Enel´s DF power to work but Franky is one of the best carpenters in the world. If Enel could get a ship with the technology to be steered by one man and that even has the ability to fly done, then I´m sure that Franky would at least get a ship ready that works at least partwise automatically.
why does almost everyone on the forum want franky to join? he is completly mis-matched with the rest of the crew. he is too destructive to join the crew. he leads the entire franky family and I seriously doubt that Oda would let the Mugiwara crew become that huge. If Oda gives someone a backstory, everyone just jumps to the conlusion that he/she is going to join. I for one, think that if franky joins, it would be the biggets mistake Oda could make. But, i do really like One piece, and I think that Oda will probably be able to make just about anything seem rational and fit into the onepiece world. Whatev…
…I seriously doubt that Oda would let the Mugiwara crew become that huge...
Monkey D. Luff, chapter 1: "First of all, I have to find a crew. I want 10 people!!"
That makes it taken as a given that before the story is over Luffy will have ten mates in his crew.
And on the entire Franky stuff. You could have said the same about Chopper when you first saw him at Drum. He was way to different from the others and had way to many possilities to use his DF ability. But he fits the Strawhats perfectly. Just as Franky would.

Point taken…then its possible to have a big ship with minimum crew then...I just hope to see the ship more lively thats all...hehehe, Maxim was great and all...but behind all the facade...its just a one man ship...its creepy and sad
Floralshirt : How is Franky mismatched??? He's quirky, he has a dream, he's funny, he's a shipwright + dismantler (he builds ships from scrap), he's a god damn cyborg!!! hows that miss matched? I don't mind Paulie or anyone else for that matter...but Franky's the bomb!!! At least for now...:)

I agree with you. This was really giving me the creeps too.
Once again WAIPA!

Personally, I think Vivi will rejoin. She still considered a nakama even if she didn't join them after Arabasta. As for Tashigi, she'd probably join the Straw Hats if Smoker did.
Just a couple of my opinions.
oh dear god, anyone but tashigi….
like i've said before, i really want Paulie to join. mainly because of that one scene where him and Luffy were chained down and Paulie said something, I don't quite remember, but it was one of those things that made me think that he would fit in with the Straw Hats. I don't know if that makes sense, but I can honestly see more possibilities with Paulie in the crew. I'm sad there's no backstory of him yet, but I would love to see one. Plus...rope action. C'mon, that is too awesome X3 (so many kinds of wrong too ;p j/k)
Franky is cool, don't get me wrong. I like him. But I seriously don't think he fits in the crew. I hate to repeat myself, but him and Luffy would clash so bad, not just in personality. Franky is more of a leader than a follower to me. Also, I still partially can't forgive him for what he did to Usopp. I'm over it, but it still gnaws at me...
As much as I would love Vivi to join, it wouldn't really do much. It'd be a rehash of what has already happened while she was onboard. it would get kinda redundant, and the story would slow down....
You have to remember that when the Franky Family did what they did to Usopp, they weren't doing it to the Usopp you know (in their eyes).
What they saw was a group of pirates with a bunch of stolen treasure with three 50 million + bounty members, in their eyes they were dealing with very evil criminals (from Loguetown we know that when people have 100 million bounties, they are expected to be brutal murderers, etc, since the fact that Luffy doesn't look like such a person is why Bellamy didn't believe his bounty).
Their mentality was, "we're stealing from crooks." They didn't know the Mugiwara's backstory and the Mugiwara are aware of the perceptions people have of pirates, it comes with the bill and they accept the risks. Really, in most situations, we wouldn't be mad at the Franky family for stealing from Pirates. I mean if they stole from Crocodile would you hate them for it? If they beat him up (obviously they wouldn't be able to, but I'm just making a point)?
well I agree with what the invisible worm said, when you look at it from they're point of view they were doing a noble service for the city of water 7 but looking back at it they must feel awful for what they did.
new members:
A merwoman helmsman would be a great addition to pilot the ship I mean who knows more about the sea then fish people?
Whenever I imagine a priest on board the image that pops up in my head is a Nicholas D wolfwood type character from trigun and I can't shake that image but it would be a welcome addition in my books. (by the way the D would be a coincidence)

Huh? I guess that´s what it´s like when you find out that you´re not alone. I wholeheartadly agree with what you just said. I´m hoping for the exact same thing. Well except for that I wish for it to be a merman. Though I think Oda could pull a great gag with having a female being the best driver in One Piece. I know I would laugh my ass of if he would turn the cliche around.

As much as I like Wolfwood, he´s not exactly the priest kind of guy who wants to protect life at any cost. Actually Vash the Stampede has more attributes I would expect for a priest then Wolfwood does.

i don't hate them for it. it would've been different if i didn't care for the character, so how can i help that? that's just the way i am, especially since i adore Oda's characters. I just get so into it that it really affects me when something happens to my favorite characters, I'm sure I'm not alone on this, but if I am, I'll shut up.
why does almost everyone on the forum want franky to join? he is completly mis-matched with the rest of the crew. he is too destructive to join the crew. he leads the entire franky family and I seriously doubt that Oda would let the Mugiwara crew become that huge. Whatev…
Actualluy, I can really see him fitting in fine…Remember, all of the characters fit into the Straw Hat's because of a relationship with one or more characters. Check it out:
Luffy: The captain, uniting force overall
Zoro: Total devotion to Luffy, cynicysm (misspelled) about all others, rivalry with Sanji.
Nami: Thieving, in relation to all.
Usopp: Deludes Chopper
Chopper: Is deluded by Usopp.
Nico Robin: Not yet defined, actually. Will probably (like the other chars) become defined after her flashback
ranky already fits into this
Franky: Amicable arguing with Usopp, random rage on all characters.
Now, as to Luffy getting a larger crew...I think he will. He wants ten men, but a horde of random henchmen could prove eminently useful by the end of the series. I'm not saying it'll be the FF, I'm saying by the time the series is over.
