I got Stardew Valley like a week or so back, thanks for Vorlianis.
It was really addicting at first, but I'm hitting the end of my enthusiasm for it and I haven't even completed year 1, haha. It has a lot of interesting ideas for the farming genre, and a good execution for keeping a person engaged (the tasks are all pretty short, and there's almost certainly something to do by the next day). My gripe is that it really doesn't go anywhere. Harvest Moon had your character age and die, which was frustrating, but it created a narrative and gave the game an end. While I don't think that's the best end a game like this could have, I think Stardew really needs something. Once you've reached the bottom of the cave, and unlocked all of the areas, there really isn't much to do. Marriage doesn't even feel all that worth it, since the characters are so bland, and the rewards are un-compelling. Maybe if the game had more customization a la Animal Crossing, or some central plotline, or more fleshed out monster hunting and quests, then I'd have more reason to play.
Cute game, and I'm glad I played it for free, since I don't feel like I would have been satisfied with the purchase. It is some decent mindless fun, though, for a while, and makes a good backdrop for listening to podcasts or music.
