OMG…
this trailer is so COOL!!!
everything's great except for one thing: ryuk's voice is bad. really, really bad.
Death Note Movie + Obata Art Book
-
-
I thought Ryuk both sounded and looked adorable! …XD Okay, maybe not. But I suppose I'm the only one who didn't mind what I've seen and heard so far of him (and he's my favorite character!)
I think what I'm most happy about is how thus far they seem to be staying true to the characters, their quirks, and their personalities. I hope when I actually see the movie, that'll still be the case.
-
Japanese movie cg is bound to be inferior because it just doesn't have the money to throw at films like Hollywood does. We should be happy it looks as good as it is.
And I dunno the character(s) but I like that demon's voice.
As for Dani California, it's absolutely perfect. The chorus is easy to interpret for anyone with a high school English education (California rest in peace) and even though it might not make sense it won't be long before everyone who cares enough to find out its meaning gets a hold of RIP by no coincidence for a movie called Death Note.
Good choice….and good PV too.

should i remind you than japan is one of the richest country's on earth? one of g8 and stuff? they are not short on money.
-
that looks like its gonna be damn good, I wonder how much they are going to use ryuuk in the movie
-

Well, one of my major fields of study is Japanese Society and Culture so I didn't need any reminding but…what does a country's monetary stability or their success have to do with how much money is thrown at their film industry?
If that was the case, Luxembourg should be putting out some BADASS flicks.
Next time you check out how successful a US-made movie is, don't forget to see how the profit is divided up. In many cases you'll see half or so come from its run in the US, the other half coming from countries around the world.
I'd like to see a Japanese live-action film that could boast such numbers.
-
it's different, movies from usa are shown all around the world. movies from japan..well, movies from japan arent.
-
the guy who plays light doesnt really look like light. He should be blonde or lighter hair something, but this looks awesome. I wonder if it will go to the end of the series, but i doubt it. It looks a lot will be in vol.2.
-
Prediction. Since 2 movies were announced. 1 for part 1 (till mid-volume 7) and the other for part 2 (till end of series)
-
You mean Death Note is already over? I didn't know that, guess that means a shorter read than usual.
Just watched it, the flash of the characters at the begining and end made me jump too. The devil guy from that split second looked tight.
-
Not over yet…. but soon... we think... next chapt >_> maybe....
-
Even tho I'm not a fan of Death Note (Yet) I still wanna screencap that demon dude (forget his name) at the end. Is there a HQ version of this?
-
Oh my, that does look very, very neat. Mind you, that probably means very little, but at the very least it's gotten me pretty interested in checking this flick out.
Whoever casted Watari was doing their job swell.
-
Ah, deathgod.org already had him screencapped.
Damn he looks scary.
-

Well yes, that's pretty much what I said in response to your comment which stated Japan is a wealthy country as if that somehow had something in relation to how much production values of films may be. Have we reached an understanding then?

touch the note
go to the desk with the computer (when Light isn't sitting)
the desktop is the same as what you are seeing
keep clicking the desktop (it does a little zoom thing) till u get a secret wallpaper -
For those who don't wanna do that, here.

If thats not your resolution just edit the 1024 and 768 in the url to it.

Personally, with the exception of the chorus which sounds very different from the rest of the song, I don't think Dani California sounds good as far as the mood of Death Note goes. The chorus sounds really nice in the trailer, but I really hope it's an end credit song. I couldn't see the rest of the melody fitting into any point of the story.
-
Its the opening song of the movie. So, the opening credits.
Probably play again during the ending credits tho.
-
Press conference clip!
-
Yea, I saw that.
-
is the last person in the video clip (not trailer) after watari misa(thats her name right?). Lights dad's choice for his actor was horrible pick. Didnt look much like him, same with light. I am also pretty sure i saw matsuda but i am not sure (he looked like him)
-
ryuuku looks so wierd. I have no idea how they are going to mix him in with the live action without it looking ridiculous. I agree that the casting choices were misguided, at best, but L, imo, looks spot on
-
Only thing that really throws me off with Ryuuku is his nose (snort) and his coloring. I'm pretty sure Ryuuku is suppose to be shades of blue.
Now he has pale white skin, black hair, and red lips. He looks just like a clown.
Make that a clown which looks like it got hit with a bat once too many.

Yep, theres always someone whos THAT lazy. XD
-
Man, the Death Note trailer was awesome, and Ryuk nearly frightened me.
-
The flash of Raito (Or was it L?) at the begining and of Ryuuku at the end caused me to jump.

Would've made me jump if it wasn't for the lag on my computer XP.
-
wait….Kitamura is Directing? Goodbye interest.
My faith does not run deep for a man that managed to screw up a female ninja movie, a movie about zombie yakuza sword fights, Godzilla, Solid-freaking-Snake and deadly baseball battle.
All incredible concepts, all mangled by his boring, needlessly over the top V-Cinema choreography/camera angles and worst of all, wrist-slash-inducing pace.
I wish this movie well but that may not be enough.
-
the guy who directed godzilla: final wars is doing this? LOL!!! i love that film cause it is sooo bad. I love the random american guy. "There two things you dont know about the earth: me and godzilla." I love it!
On a serious note, i hope he corrects his ways for this film
-
Best news I have heard all day.
-
Never heard of this Kitamura, but the least we could do is give this one a shot.
-
Ryuhei Kitamura
Director of:
VERSUS
Azumi
Battlefield Baseball
Choreographer for MGS: The Twin Snakes
Godzilla: Final Wars& other travesties.
Like gil said, many of the people who love his work, feel so because of how awful it is. There hasn't been a Ryuhei Kitamura film YET that I haven't fallen asleep during and that's not me being a sarcastic prick.
I can't stress enough I wouldn't give up all hope if you're a fan but….it's as if Japan's Uwe Bowell were to direct the film.
-
I bought Jump issue 21/22 and since it has some info on DN movie, I thought I'd share.

http://raws.kefi.org/random/dn02movie.jpgSome of the translation:
All About Death Note!!
Q: What is the big difference between Manga and Movie?
A: In the movie, Ray's fiance, Misora Naomi, will be playing acitve role more than Manga. Maybe we could say she's a key person that'll be associating with Kira case from different aspect than Manga. Also, we developed her character since Seto Asaka, whose mood is similar to Naomi, will be playing her on the movie.Q: How's CG going for Ryuk?
A: We're still creating it. Reliable staff are creating it, so I'm sure he'll be a real Ryuk. By the way, during the film shooting, we placed a doll which is 2.5 meter and pretended that's CG'd Ryuk. It was very hard to carry around this Ryuk, lol.Q: What did you care about Light and L's reproduction?
A: We paid attention to make them look like the manga. We dyed Fujiwara-san's hair and started to create the role from visual aspect. On the other hand, Matsuyama-san started from the way to sit. Also, when speaking, he'll ignore the punctuation and talk. I thought L not thinking anything about his listener would fit his role well, lol.
Arrow: When Fujiwara-san dyed his hair, he could easily became Light. Matsuyama-san's ultimating L-sitting.Q: Why did you put in the original character, Akino Shiori?
A: When I read the manga all at once, I was amazed that Light is really a bad guy! Rather, it was almost impressive. In order to deliver this Light's badness to the audience, Shiori, Light's childhood friend, was needed. Please look forward to her activities in the movie.Q: Is there anything you were particular about when shooting?
A: I was particular about visuals like action scenes (ie. bus jack) and details of the settings. Light's room turned out pretty good, as you can see on the home page, lol. At first, it had boom box, but I replaced it with a vacuum cleaner. It'd probably show more of Light's clean freak part.
Arrow: In the movie, it'll have surveillance camera scene that L suggested. Directer said it took long time to shoot the surveillance camera scene.Q: What's the ending of the movie?
A: We respects the original but also dramatized a little. It has the original ending. Of course, this will be an interesting ending that WJ fan will be concent, so please keep your expectation high!! -
Well, looks like they added in a filler character, developted a character more, and changed the ending slightly to be more "dramatic".
Yeeeep, sounds like any other movie.
-
But this is DEATH NOTE its not just any other movie. I still hope its is fairly like the manga cause i really like it and i don't want to much to be changed.
-

Wait wait wait… Wasn't Shusuke Kaneko directing this film? I've never heard anything of Ryuhei Kitamura being involved. Shusuke Kaneko directed Azumi 2, not Azumi.
Of course, I'm much too lazy to check, but I thought that's how it was.
-
Shusuke Kaneko is listed on IMDB
-
damn it so they wont have the ending of the manga.
(tho i liked the possibilty of it going up to half of volume 7 where
! L dies then the next movie with the ending of the series where
! Light dies -
I have some great news.
EGX looked up the film at IMDB and said the Director listed was different than Kitamura. I went to the site and sure enough his name is nowhere to be found.
I'd say…things look pretty good. The fellow has been directing since I was a year old. He DOES have a lot of kaijuu films under his belt which....is kinda kiddy-ish and he DID direct Azumi 2 and the 2001 Godzilla film (which is prolly why the source I read from was confused) but we shouldn't hold that against him.
I'll go back to my intial impression from the trailer and say it looks promising.

We heard. >P
-
Well now you know what to expect too ^_^
-
Well. I want a fansub but that would need a DVD release. And what will that be? October?
-
Depends, sometimes the Japanese DVD may even include English subs.
-
Well…safe to say it wont be anytime soon.
-
Unless some one brings a camera to the movie thertre and then subs it.
I can dream cant i… cant i.
-
I wouldn't even want something that ugly on my hard drive. HQ all the way.
-
does anyone know when the movie's coming to dvd?
most of you are prolly thinking, WHUUUUUU?!?!?!
well, they made a movie.
there's the site. they have some downloads there, and they have movie clips with RYUU IN THEM!
he looks pretty bad-ass.
so now i need it on dvd. i need it BAD.does anyone know when it'll be on dvd? i don't think fer awhile, but i figure someone knows a specific date.
oh yeah! here's some proof of the pwncakes.
–----------------------------
eh?EH?!?!?! pretty schweet!
-
hey, why don't you check the "official" thread about this movie?
