Hey now, I like Nakashima Mika ! (… Her music, anyway.)
I can understand liking her music because there`s a place in my heart for Yuki no Hana, but have you ever seen the alien sing live? She makes Kayako from The Grudge look like a ballroom dancer.
Funny that you should mention Kikujiro since I just bought it on DVD last week! I first saw the movie on the flight home from my trip to Japan in '99, and I used to have it on VHS at my old house.
It wasn't as good as I remember but that's what repeat viewings will do to you. Still, great movie.
I dont know about other foreigners but I do know the only reason I LOVE the film is **because** I
m a foreigner. If I were watching it as a Japanese citizen maybe 1/3 of the film would catch my interest while the rest would be spent being totally bored out of my mind. Its like watching many aspects of daily life in Japan. There
s so much of Japan packed into the film that it may as well serve as a two-hour crash course in the modern society. That`s coming from an Anth. nut.
Takeshi`s humor, the story-telling, cameos, characters pacing, child-like fantasy and horror and above all the music just make it impossible to top on my list of fav. films. All I have to do is hear the Dadadaadaadumdumdum and tears start to swell up.
News: Tatsuya Fujiwara will play the main character.
Good news for stephen`s hat.
