In all what is the longest manga series ever?
What's the Longest Manga ever?
-
-
Koichi Kame or Golgo 13.
-
search button my friend search (im too lazy to dig up the old topic)
-
search is too wildcard for me
-
Golgo 13's the oldest, then Kochi Kame, I think.
-
-
Koichi Kame or Golgo 13.
i think its probably this one:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kochira_Katsushika-ku_Kameari_Kōen-mae_Hashutsujo
the one that katanajon mentioned -
Bull.
'tis not fair how I got warned for such a comment! Discrimination! >=(
…
Also, what of Guin Saga? Isn't that one of the longer mangas, as well?
-
The longest manga ever is absolutely Kochi Kame (the one in the link gilrules gave)
-

1. It's not that long since this post has been posted. (None of mods saw it yet.)
2. Saying "bull" in this context isn't that really offensive.
3. Even if it's offensive, it's probably KatanaJon1.1's first time saying such thing. You've been warned for several times.EOD.

And yes, amuraizero, please do use search button. If it doesn't work, then you can click on page numbers to check on past threads. That's what GoAnderson, e1n, and I did yesterday just for you to have old chapter discussion thread!! ARGH.===
Back on topic.
Golgo 13 started its serialization on 1968-01. There are 139 volumes total so far.
Kochikame started its serialization on 1976-29. There are 148 volumes total so far.
Guin Saga only ran for 100 volumes. -
29? do u mean 99. 2029 hasnt happen yet :-p
-
Issue 29 of year 1976. Both series are still running on manga magazines :)
-
holy crap..! I think a series like that needs to end soon tho maybe not as long as its entertaining and has a plot
-
it cant have a really coherent plot if it is that long. I heard that it is like the simpsons of the manga world. Has anyone ever attempted a scanlation on that?
-
I think y-anime scanslated one or two chapters.
Kochikame is really episodic. You can't have a plot for that long without it getting seriously old.
-
It's also comedic, easier to stretch it when the whole point is really just gags.
Golgo 13 on the other hand . . . . . .
I also have a feeling that by the time it ends Hajime no Ippo will also be one of the "big boys" of manga. Hell, it's 74 volumes long and still has LOTS to finish.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Wow, zombie thread yeah I know.
Okay. What do you mean by longest manga? Longest running or longest in terms of pages?
Because although KK is a CRAPLOAD of volumes, I have heard that G13 wins because it has more pages. If someone actually can confirm that or not it would be great.
I mean just consider One Piece. At around Volume 37 it was already as long as DB's 42 volumes (give or take a volume because of SBS and gallery goodness). And even at volume 42 (the same as DB) it won't even have come close to DB's 519 +1 chapters.

is there a certain max or min for mangaka or is it whatever they feel like releasing?
-
I dunno how it works in other mags, but JUMP has a reader survey which they use to find out which series are hot and which are not. This gets a lot of replies by offering prizes. And series that don't perform are dropped LIKE A ROCK!!! Seriously, even if you're an established mangaka you can find yourself bitchslapped off the pages in an instant.
-
looks at hunter x hunter mangaka
Manga seems to be a whenever you feel like it, how much you feel like doing kind of job. I could use a job like that. I mean if oda took an extended break, sure the fans would be disappointed but he would still have a job when he gets back.

Well HxH is an absurdly popular comic. Just try telling that to the authors of WaqWaq and the other dozen or so series that get killed off in a matter of months.
So long as your comic is popular I imagine there's a good deal of leniency. Look at what the Death Note mangaka did recently, not just HxH. But, no matter how respected/popular you are there is a level of urgency. If you ever read Manga, Manga, Manga by Fred Schodt, you'll see just how strict the schedule is and what lengths editors sometimes have to go through to get the work out of the authors (yes, there have even been escapes out bathroom windows).
-
Usually I get a good idea of how much insane work goes into making a chapter from the omake notes from mangaka in the novels. For some reason Hirano and Toriyama come to mind.

i need to read that book then.
I only mention hxh because he is notorious for being "sick" and taking extended breaks when i think if he had assistants it would all be fine.
-
Yes Cap'n, Toriyama is somewhat famous for being late with his work….but on the other hand he's also famous for being a procrastinator ^O^
-
Er you mean Togashi?
But seriously Gil, comics are alot harder to make then people think.
Theres whole levels of thought that need to go in to them that you can't tell from just reading. -
i understand that it is really difficult to make good manga because if it wasnt the market would me even more saturated than it already is, but I have seen what togashi brings to the tank releases and what he "draws" in the jump releases is ridiculously inadequate. I dont have any beefs with the story, other than it seems that this getting to the palace his gone on for a wee bit too long. I just wish he would get assistants to have them clean up the artwork. I mean most mangaka have like 4 assistants and he has none? no wonder he is sick so often because he overworks himself needlessly
