based on what i have researched about manga and also reading from mangas for example : weekly shonen jump and monthly shonen gangan and so on. from my opinion, i think that montly comics are better than weekly because the artist gets to think about new ideas before the monthly deadline is due that she or he has, draw smoother pictures with detail, have more time with exercisng their health. also it keeps the fan with big anticipation for monthly like for example : FMA, and mushishi, and something to name on. the weak thing is that some pgs go up from 30 to about less than 60

for weeklies, they do an okay work but has some flaws because the artist have about 7 days to think up and have to draw up at least 20 pgs. some artist have to take the whole night thinking of new ideas and drawing up to get on pace on the drawings. some artists may even be exhausted from the whole week. the great thing that weeklies do is the artist draw more pages than monthlie artists.

if u like to share opinion and dicuss this thread, please do,

Mhhh… if this about Japanese comics, then this might better be in the Other Manga/Anime section. If it's about comics in general, Media section could do it too. But hey, it's not a world ending issue. Just that having some kind of order is luxury.

Well, there're some artists which plain can't do it in a weekly schedule. Makoto Yukimura (Planetes fame) can't. It depends though, some artist might feel themselves more comfortable with weekly - some artist might feel themselves more comfortable with monthly. That matters. And while I think I prefer monthly publication by a small margin, in the end, it's really hard to say whether it has actual effect to the quality of the comic.

As long as the comic's good and as long as they release a collection later on, either way works for me. 🙂

I don't mind either way as a reader. Quality of mangas on weekly magazines are good enough to read, and sometimes you get to enjoy some touchup here and there when it gets on Tanko. Same thing happens on monthly ones, too, though.

Ultimately I prefer reading in Tanko, so that's gonna be like 3-4 months wait in between, but… I usually cannot wait that long and ended up reading weekly/monthly thing.

Weekly comes out more often, so I'm a fan.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages, weekly comes out more often, but when the monthy is released, it has more length. Waiting for a monthly to come out is just more exciting than wating for next weeks issue. I guess I choose monthly over weekly.

I felt like giving Araki a little kick in the ass for his comment about monthly, but hey, it's true. There's a real genius to weekly serials. And, in another argument, manga in general.
