Normally I'm not one to do all of this theory developing, but while I was looking over the Crocus/Laboon chapters I caught something interesting.

I apologize if I don't bring anything new to the table that hasn't been discussed and dissected to death.

Somehow I didn't catch that before. Can't believe I missed that. But this…

Crocus: Those… might be the pirates we've been waiting for this whole time... That boy has a mysterious air about him. Eh... Roger?

There's a lot of jokes about how we automatically assume that an elderly character was on Roger's crew, but it looks like Crocus is actually an exception. I have no idea how this one slipped by me.

The timelines, as someone else said, don't match up with Crocus being the Pirate King's doctor. He stayed with Laboon for 50 years or so, and Roger was executed about 22 years ago. He'd have had to abandoned Laboon for some time before he came back, so I really do doubt that he was actually Roger's "Doctor."

However, I'm sure the two of them met at some point, perhaps at many intervals, and who knows? Maybe Crocus was an old friend of Roger's, and perhaps a follower of the D. I don't know, though… It's kind of out there. But that "Eh... Roger?" line definitely shows that something is going on. In a grand "Gol D. Roger" flashback, which may happen at some point, we'll likely see Crocus again. And, if theories come true, then perhaps we'll even see him again in real-time when Luffy returns to duel Laboon.

**I actually thought of this long ago, but as GoAnderson said the time line doesn' fit. But that doesn't mean he couldn't have had been. He could have had lied, seeing as it would be logical not to tell everyone he was in the pirate kings crew. He does seem to look around his 50's. I just doubt he is THAT old. Also there is the fact that he could have taken care of laboon while with roger. I don't think he says I stayed here for 50 years just that he took care of laboon for so long. Please correct me if this is wrong.

But even if he wasn't, I'm completley sure he knew roger in some way.**

Oh yeah, I didn't pay enough attention. I guess he was either still working the lighthouse when he met Roger, or was maybe friends with him. But there's a definite connection.

What if Crocus is the "gaurdian" of One Piece. It is presumubley at the end of the grand line. Could there be a possibility that there is an entrance to the end from the begining? Perhaps Roger asked him to "gaurd" one piece until a certain indvidual came? Perhaps that's what he meant by , " Those… might be the pirates we've been waiting for this whole time... That boy has a mysterious air about him. Eh... Roger?"

Like I said it is a crazy theory, but why not? He's not that old. Whitebeard is arounf his 50's, I think Corocus is around the same age. I wouldn't be that hard seeing no one knows where One Piece is, and if they are looking for it they go to the end and don't use backwards logic. He has a gaint whale at his command. And no one would actually go get one piece that way.

I think Crocus is more around in his 70's or 80's, since Laboon was left behind 50 years ago.

EDIT: Oh, shit, I can't believe i forgot his intro. He explicitly says he's 72 years old.

72? looks like he is in his 50's. But one can still kick arse when in their 70's esp a pimpin' old man wearing a shell.

No offense, guys, but Whitebeard must be ancient. He's no doctor like Kureha and needs constant medical attention; furthermore, since his hair is white, I'm assuming he's at least a couple decades older than Aokiji, who looks to be about forty or fifty in present time.

Also, "Roger' is a generic term for pirates that could apply to anyone. Hence, this is the significance of calling "Gold Roger" a pirate king, something like King John, lord of the common folk.

He doesn't look that uber old to me. He still has brown hair ( reference from anime), if you didn't notice. Plus he tied with roger. I always took that and assumed he was the same age as Roger. which would put him around his 50's would it not?

Isn't it said that Roger went on multiple voyages to and through the Grand Line? It's possible that he had stayovers at Crocus's lighthouses more than once.

umm one thing ive learned from watching the anime, never trust the preciseness of One Piece animators. Check out the mistakes and oddities thread if you havent already. Also he is called White beard not White head.
although for an old man he sure does have a clean unhairy chest.

I assumed the brown hair was a colouring error, as errors of the like are common for Toei. We won't be able to confirm this until (likely) the Luffy v. Whitebeard battle, of which we will have a colourspread.

Furthermore, strength doesn't necessarily equivilate to age. Most Anime that revolves around Japanese lore or manga have an invicible martial arts master who is usually extremely old (seventies-eighties) but is capabe of taking out younger people with ease. The reverse, younger people taking out the older, is how things work in the real world. Because OP is a manga that has one foot in the realism of history and one foot in the surreal and fantastic, we really can't be sure. All I can deduce is that old people are relative; in DB, there was a good explanation for why old people didn't look old (as in, Goku's in his sixties, but he still looks young because his ki is fully flowing), but the same age thing can apply to OP, athough it makes little sense because there's obviously no ki and martial arts training to support the age difference. This is mostly illustrated in OP's equivalent of "fighers", like Whitebeard, Roger, and Aokiji, who are obviously older than people of the 1700's (real world date, OP date 1500's) should be, but they still look young.

It doesnÂ´t have to be an error but ToeiÂ´s full intention. They also gave Robin blue eyes instead of the brown ones Oda uses for her in the color spreads or on the volume covers. Could be that by OdaÂ´s book Whitebeard doesnÂ´t have brown hair.

I donÂ´t know. I guess he has some sort of input, but the Robin thing shows that the anime can go an indipendent way.

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere (I think it was at OmaeÂ´s site) that Oda gave Toei much creative freedom but that he somehow was insistant on having the voices as he imagines it. Not sure if I got that right, so if anybody knows it better please refresh my memory.

Well, they colored Robin totally wrong and gave Zoro the ability to cut steel during the Apis arc, so I doubt it, Phlemingo.

It could be. but I havn't eard anything saying otherwise. Or may be he died his mustache.

I'm aware of theis, but to me it sounded like they were rivals. And whil rivals don't neccarily have to be arounf the same age, they mostly are. The way buggy said it it seemed that they were the same age. Thats the way I always took it at least. Tio me it seems and looks like he is in his. But we don't really know how old roger was. I always believed whitebeard to be around 8 years older than roger. Which would place him in his late 50's.

Of course it is. Then again, so is 90% of everything else posted in this forum in the last month. And no, I'd rather not have that again, but judging from the direction the 394 discussion has gone in, I'd say it's almost too late.

I think he means her eyes. In the anime they gave her blue/green eyes. In the manga, she has brown eyes.
