      Hi guys,

Sorry for the trouble but I need help from anyone who is good at PC (hardware/software) or someone who had experienced this problem.

I turned on my computer in the morning (it was fine in the night) and it freezes while loading the start-up programs in Windows. I restarted it and it freezes just before the login screen (after BIOS finsihed loading). I turned it off & waited a while, turned it back on and nothing loads. It's just black screen and CPU light kept going on. It's the same thing after a couple of tries.
Then I leave it for a few hours and turned it back on, same problem (nothing loads). Turned it off & turned it back on, this time it went well, everyhting loads and eveything works fine (except windows asking whether I wanted to start windows in safe mode or normally).

      Here is my PC spec:
      OS: Windows XP SP2
      Mobo: MSI 9156
      RAM: 512
      HDD: Western Digital 80GB
      CPU: P4 3.0 GHz

Can anyone please help me in advice or solution? Or perhaps an opinion?

Thank you so much in advance for any help given

How old is your computer? I think it's most likely the motherboard screwing up on you, cause my computer when down almost similiar to yours but never recovered.

          Thanks for the reply thelousy

My PC is brand new actually, just a few months old.
However, my friend did said to me that MSI mobo tends to do 'strange' things so I don't know whether it's related to what you mean by the mobo is failing on me.

Since it works fine when it warms up, it could be something like a cold solder joint or slightly loose connection, when it warms and expands, it gets operable. Try tightening all the connectors, especially power ones.

Might also check the power supply for quality. Shoddy power supplies can cause a multitude of sins. At bootup, the power demand peaks (drive spinning up, wildly seeking as it loads, etc.)

Thank you for the opinions Bounty1Berry & thelousy. I had a talk with my friend and he also told me that it must be hardware related. It just shocked me that the PC is only a few months old yet something is already wrong with the hardwares.

Anyway, I turn on the pc today and nothing seems to be wrong…..hopefully yesterday was a one-off thing

Thanks again for the reply guys

I agree that the psu might be the culprit. Some motherboards will freak out with questionable power supplies. I built a pc for my brother where that was the case. It wouldn't power on right. It turned out to be a combination of power supply, motherboard, and cpu (apparently the problem happened a lot more with the specific cpu I put in).
                Good luck!

If its a Do-It-Yourself computer, I suggest rechecking all the wires. If its by a manufacturer, get your money back xD

There is no good motherboard maker.

Since it's not a direct-to-customer product in most situations, they can get away with a lot of bad support, buggy products, and iffy promises because usually only the manufacturer of a system has to face it directly.
