After many years. My school has finally agreed to let an Asian language be taught at my school. I'm one of the few people who knows about it.

They didn't tell me which Chinese language they are teaching but I know I'm taking the course next year (if I can't learn Japanese, I'll just learn this until college. I know Kanji is based off Chinese writing.)

What languages do you have at your school?

Actually, there's only Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. If your talking about dialect, that's another story altogether.

Most likely they'll teach you Mandarin. I rarely see any college teaching Cantonese; almost none for other dialects.

For writing system, usually teacher lets you choose whichever writing you use. I've taken 3 Chinese classes (2nd and 3rd level Mandarin, 1st level Cantonese) and all of my teachers preferred Traditional Chinese. Though, I know my friend learned it in Simplified Chinese.

It's just depends on where your teacher is from.

If you can choose which writing system you learn, then choose Traditional Chinese. It's MUCH harder but more useful later on. If you know Trad, it'll be easier for you to read Simplified. Not vice versa.

Japanese Kanji is somewhat mixture of two, but I say it's closer to Traditional Chinese.

There is a chinese class right beside my friday conference
so I get to hear the teacher shout and the students repeat
            "我是中國人"
…and so on and so forth

Thanks e1n for this awesome gift <3

Bah, I despise simplified Chinese. How the hell do they get 讲 from 講 ?! And 双 from 雙 ?!

Madness I tell you. T_T And how the heck do you even look those up in a dictionary? Can you still do it by root word?
