Just got back from seeing it. It was mostly good, but the ending dragged in my opinion. Plus there were some subplots that could have been eliminated entirely (i.e. Billy Elliot's jungle adventure).

I never liked anything involving dinosaurs, so I did find it scary  And I liked how the T-rex jaw-snapping scene from the original movie is here again. I was very disappointed to see that the water monster scene wasn't in it. I always found that animatronic monster from the original movie scary as hell.

And I wish Naomi Watts would close her damn mouth!

Probably won't get a chance to see this until next weekend. But I caught the original Kong on ABC last night & absolutely loved every second of it.

Apparently critics just LOVE this movie. It has a 95% fresh rating at rottentomatoes.com, which is impressive.

I might see it for Jack Black. 👅

I watched the original before, but I did manage to watch it on ABC too. It's funny how entertaining that movie is despite being so dated, and you can't help but admire the detail in the movement of the animatronics.

Battle Franky, are you in the Brisbane area? The QLD art gallery is having an exhibit called "Kiss of the Beast" which is basically a study of all the monster movies of the early 20th century, and what inspired them. It's interesting because the Charles Darwin theory of evolution and the psychology of apes are inspiration for King Kong. And the landscapes of some scenes are inspired by Milton's Paradise Lost interestingly enough.

I'm not gonna see it. At least in theaters. I definately don't wanna sit at the movies for more than 3 1/2 hours.

Unless it's all six Star Wars films. Heh.

I'm listening to the midnight showing of it here right now. An hour and a half in someone came out and said that they'd just gone through the jungle gate. Wow. XD I'll probably see it this weekend with my family, since it'd be free (and the only other movie we're showing right now is Walk the Line, which I want to see but it can wait for DVD).

If you spoiler me, I will eat you with tater tots.

Taking a half day off of work to go see it this afternoon. Very stoked for it. As a big fan of the original I can't help but think that this won't compare (funny to think that a little stop action ape could out-do WETA) but as a Jackson fan I have high hopes.

Saw it last night. I was entertained to utmost satisfaction-after the arrival on skull island that is- but like so many others, I feel that an hour could EASILY have been shaved off. Did we really need that long an intro, that much crew interaction (mainly the "No Jimmy! You stay here!" Sub-plot), and that much focus on the HumanxHuman relationship?
Other than that, I was annoyed with the large amount of Fast-black&white-suspense making-cuts, and instrumental Slo-Mo scenes.

All the horrors of skull island make up for it though, and watching Kong in the Big apple was kickass.

I'd give it 4/6 stars, like most other newspapers in my country.

Reviews are mostly good, and that's my cue. Stupid finals week still going on, prolly seeing on the 20th.

Ah, I heard about the long intro, but I don't think I'll mind it that much.=)

I'll be seeing King Kong in a week or two, once I get a chance to go out with my friends. Although I do have mixed feeling about it. Or, at least, I won't expect nothing sorf of high and five. Probably pretty much like with LOTR: entertaining and yet avarage. The original has it's charm though, Kong's such a naughty boy on it.

I don't care for the original, but I'll see it Saturday, I guess.

But one question: with all of the dinosaurs on the island, why the hell were they so fascinated with a big monkey?

You mean the natives? Dunno, Kong's been around for a while, he's kinda old. Maybe that shows that he's the strongest creature on the island.

Mixed feelings. Very effective in places. Iffy in some.
Need time to think about it but for now four thoughts:

                                  1. At the end Jack Black should not have been allowed to deliver the line.
                                  2. I think I heard a Kong roar from the first movie used in this one.
                                  3. The scene where Kong goes through the cave past all of the skeletons of the others of his kind to go and sit on the cliff was excellent.
                                  4. I hate to cry in movie theaters.

It was too damn exaggerated. Also, there were lots of stupid things my friends and I made fun of afterwards. The movie was alright though.

I remember back to the crappy '76 version of Kong & the even crappier '86 sequel. Kong was shot off one of the then WTC buildings in the first movie, then for the sequel it was revealed that he didn't in fact die, he was only in a coma & needed a blood transfusion from a female Kong in order to have an artificial heart put in… or something god-awful like that. XD

How the fuck can King Kong be spoiled?

A lot of people might know about the giant monkey and the damsel in distress, but not about the Skull Island dinosaurs and stuff like that. Or even the plot. Before I saw the Alien movies, I knew it was about a bunch of freaky aliens that kill people, but I didn't know about Ripley or the future setting or The Company.

I saw Jurassic Park at the tender age of eight, and since then I've always been frightened of dinosaurs, despite them being dead for millions of years and all. In fact, that movie came on TV last week, and I was still hiding behind a pillow.

I know! I know! Might this be because of… dinosaurs?

You know, my brother said a bit same thing. He's not interested about the movie because of the dinosaurs. "The trailer looked good till the rex came in". He won't convert even if I try to convince that the original had those things too. "It's still stupid". Like a 30 foot gorilla wouldn't be stupid.

Oh, well, I still haven't seen it though.

                                                        Meh, me too.

I dunno… I can watch alot of freaky stuff, but when it comes to, well... big, man-eating things, I just... can't. >_>

If the movie were nothing but Raptors, I could handle it, but the rex comes in and I'm "GOOD BYE!"

I just saw the movie, and it was cool. But the ending was anti-climatic. The fight scenes were really great. My mom actually stayed up through the whole movie if that does not show that it is a good movie than I am pretty clueless

So, yesterday I saw King Kong. The movie. And it's okey, just like Titanic but not as good and with hairier Dicaprio.

Music score lacked and while phasing was somewhat off the length itself didn't bother me that much at all. Perhaps we will get an extended version for DVD which could fix the phasing? I hope so. Few extra minutes could make wonders.

Jack Black was confusing. It was hard to tell whether the movie was supposed to take serious or not. I can't really tell if he was a bad choice though as after all he has loony quality which the character definetly needed.
