It has come to my attention that AE Manga is using my translations for his one piece scanlation again. He is a member of this forum as user "Sly_AE". I have already asked him to stop, but obviously it hasn't worked. I would appreciate your help in not supporting this guy (or girl). If this continues, I will stop translating.

Never heard of AE Manga, never used it, no interest in doing so. It would suck if even those that don´t support him would have to suffer under his/her script stealing.
However I understand your motives though.

He talked with me about helping SH scans but then he went and continued AE Manga. He said he got a new translater but I guess not, I'll try to contact him and stop this.

He shouldn't have to ignore him, the person in question should stop being an ass and heed his request. Ooshi has made it quite clear that he doesn't want scanslators using his scripts.

In regard to Maddox, it is a longshot. However, check the counters; those are the amount of people whom visit that particular page in gross total, over a long period of time. A hundred or so AP members, hammering for a good many hours, could force possibly force a shutdown, especially if they hammered at the same time. Guestimates of the number of people that took down Homestarrunner.com last year for the SuperBowl and JibJab were a million hits, but that number is misleading because only a couple thousand would force the sites offline, as the bandwidth nazis would recognize that their clients could not pay for a million hits worth of bandwidth. Those million hits occured as a result of people going to those websites after they were down.

Hammering his site won't do any good. He isn't updating his site at all. He releases through baka updates.

It would bother me a great deal if you stopped, Ooshi. Honestly I like your translations and I hope you don't let this shithead stop you. If you do stop translating, could you at least give non-translatory-summaries of the chapters when they come out? In other words, ones that couldn't really be used for a scanslation?

On another note, I don't like his tone, but I guess it's all settled and good.

Sadly, 4kids thinks you can't spell "laughter" without "slaughter", seeing as they kill a show while trying to make it funny.

No, ooshi will still win because without ooshi's translation, he can't scanlate XD … unless he finds a new translator for it.
I cant believe he still did that after saying he would stop after the first time, then saying he got a new translater, and then using your scripts again.
all that's left now is for the scanlations to be taken down from baka-updates. i PM'd a mod there so hopefully it'll be taken care of…

Naruto should be ok. If you check Naruto Forums, multiple translators put up their translations for any scanlator to use. … Or that's how I take it.
i had the nice people at baka-updates take the scans down. they did it in like 30 min ^^

I've had translations and transliterations stolen before, and it's always frustrated me. Don't people realize how time-consuming translations can be?

What I like about OP fandom is that none of us defends script stealers. (Or maybe there are some, but I haven't seen any.)
Please be sure to mention if it is ok to be used by random scanlators out there. So far, none of "text only" translators are allowing it.

ie. Japanese fan artist HATES to be their fan art taken/used without permission even when they're given proper credits. American, on the other hand, won't mind or rather be happy, I think.

Personal use, I don't mind, but others might. It depends on the translator, honestly.
In most cases, I don't mind if people reproduce my translations/transliterations as long as they ask first and properly credit. However, some people simply can't be bothered to do either. It is people like that that make translators want to stop translating entirely.
Just earlier this week, I discovered several someones blatantly stole my transliteration of 'my real life'–with the same particle and katakana transliteration choices, and the same line breaks. If they would have asked me, I would have gladly allowed them to use it. But now, they're on my blacklist.

Well, it all depends. If you distribute to a few friends, they might distribute to a few more friends, and sooner or later, the entire internet has a graphic with your translation on it.

Problem is more of when the permission is denied. If all the translators out there grant the permission, it wouldn't cause much of problem. In the past for One Piece, most of translators denied the permission: ie. stephen, ooshi, ocean (me), etc…

The problem isn't that we mind our work being used, it's that we mind when it's used elsewhere without us being asked - it's just courtesy. I like to know if someone's throwing around my transliterations or not (though in my case, I usually throw them up at a public hub of some kind so there's no confusion necessary), and hell, just to ask is the right thing to do.
Plenty of people ask me very nicely to use my artwork, my Winamp skins, translations, etc etc… and those I don't mind. And while I think for an instant I would be kind of flattered that someone was, uh, stealing my stuff over someone else's, it's still stealing :p
But, yeah - it's always nice to ask before you touch, with anything. Like ocean said, one of the bigger problems with this is us-people using Japanese art with their not-permission. I remember in the past I'd use stuff from sites I really liked w/o permission, and even though I was twelve and had no clue how to speak the language back in the day, I still feel pretty ick about it. So now I try to ask politely to use art for my own use; it's just the right thing ! (Prime example: if anyone's seen the Zoro skin I did for Winamp, I used one of the works at cheap cannon, and just a simple explanation of what I was doing got me a very happy go ahead in response =) )
