What's your best RPG?
I think that the difference between American and Chinese RPGs are the characters….Man, chinese characters are the best fuckin ones EVER!
As a result, my BEST RPG game is everything Zelda related: Ocarina of time, MAjora's mask, and even the old ones for Gameboy. This is for me the ultimate chinese RPG. Then, Final Fantasy VII and X, really splendid games! Awesome! Maybe Septera Core too?
Americans? The ultimate for me is Baldur's Gate II and Ultima Online. State of the art, really
Your best RPG

Never seen a Chinese RPG, so I can't say anything about them.
But the best American RPG game I have ever held in my hands and then inserted into my console of choice is Phantasy Star IV. My god, it's better than Final Fantasy 6, in my opinion.
-
Earthbound, the characters, the jokes, the whole battle system. Plus who could deny a game with New Age Retro Hippies?
-
I think you mean Japanese, right?
For me…I like Final Fantasy 6 and Earthbound.
-
These three are my favorite RPG's, but I am in no way a RPG aficionado:
-Mario RPG
-Kingdom Hearts
-LoZ: The Wind Waker -
From the 16 bit era, unquestionably Earthbound.
From the 32 bit era, definitely Xenogears.
From the modern era, undoubtably Disgaea. -
Best? Final Fantasy VI

-Chrono Trigger
-Final Fantasy IV/VI
-Pokemon
-Kingdom Hearts
-Earthbound -
Crap! How could I forget Paper Mario 2 (but I HATED the ending!)! Bobbery was so kickass.
-
I don't see what's so bad about FFVII. It's a great game and all (and I used to love it to death), but I'll admit that now that I look back on it, it isn't the best RPG ever, it's got flaws (but what doesn't have flaws?). Anyways….. My favourites (not technically 'best') thus far include:
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Chrono TriggerYeah, a small list, but I've got tons of RPGs to start sometime that I haven't been able to touch yet (among them is Star Ocean: 'Til the End of Time which I'm looking forward to).
-
The Best for me: Tales of Symphonia
My favourite: Terranigma (for SNES, old style rulez) -
Golden Sun
Golden Sun: The Lost Age -
Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.
FFIV, FFVI, and FFX.
Everything Zelda.
Earthbound (Say, "Fuzzy Pickles!")I also really liked Lunar.
-
Gawd, I hated that photo guy with a passion.
I forgot to add Chrono Cross and Super Mario RPG (Legend of the Seven Stars).
–- EDIT ---
Damn... I forgot Lufia II. O_o I'm off lately.
-
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals
-
me favorite ever is deffinatley ffinal fantasy VIII (8)
-
Earthbound and Fire Emblem series. Coincidently, I just found a ROM of EB last night.
-
FF VI-X
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Zelda 3-Link to the past -
Torororo!
In no particular order:Final Fantasy 7
Star Ocean 2: Second Story
Suikoden 2
Earthbound (The Snes version, Mother 2)
Persona 2 : Eternal Punishment -

Yes! Lucky and Gorgeous, the leaders of the Runaway Five! They kicked ass.
-
Add Breath of Fire III too, fuckin awesome. Garland is GOD!!!!
Also, Planescape Torment. One of the best RPGS ever in my opinion. Try it 10000%. And, there was a particular Zelda that made me don't wanna stop playing, except from Majora's Mask it was the one where Link after a shipwreck falls to an odd island. I remember that in the start you have to find his sword and shield in the beach and stuff…Really marvelous!
*Anyone agrees that Majora's Mask was full of BADASS, AWESOME bosses? Specially the last boss, Majora's Mask, with its three states, kicked serious ass! And I loved the music and the Bosses Intro in the game before the fights. An epic game by all means! -
Yes, I agree that Majora's Mask was an excellent game, probably the best Zelda (much better than OOT).
But I don't really consider the Zelda games "RPGs"…

Ditto. I forgot to add Kingdom Hearts (that's an RPG)
-
Disgaea:Hour of Darkness.
-
I guess, I'm of the few dudes, that didn't enjoyed Kingdom Hearts.
And I did almost everything, even beat the crap os Sephirot alot of times.
After I killed him once, I found him damn easy. -
In no particular order, my favorites:
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy IX
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Thousand Arms, which is one that almost nobody seems to know sadly enough.
Dark Cloud 2
Super Mario RPGThere are probably more than that, but these are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.
Kingdom Hearts and the Zelda series are more action/adventure games than RPGs to me. I also love Final Fantasy Tactics, but that falls into the category of strategy games.
-
Final Fantasy IX (this game is awesome)
Tales Of Destiny II (so is this)
Legend Of Zelda series
Kingdom Hearts (I want Kingdom hearts 2)
Final Fantasy VII (Cloud's awesome, man… so is Zidane)
 -
Skies of Arkaidia for the dreamcast hands down. That game was sooo boss
-
Tie between FF 7 and 9. Best storylines I've ever seen.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Grandia 1 and 2. Come on! Those games were great, and had an awesome battle system!!!However, I truly detest Vagrant story, which everyone seems to love, and I won't accept Dark Chronicle as an RPG. DC was one of the biggest dissapointments I've ever experienced, so was VS.
-
I'm surprised. A lot of people share the same love for Earthbound that I do.
I'm also surprised everyone isn't sitting there going, "OMG T3H FINAL FANTASY VII 7 SEVEN IS THE SHIZZZZZZZZLE! CLOUD ROXORS!"
-
I'm also surprised everyone isn't sitting there going, "OMG T3H FINAL FANTASY VII 7 SEVEN IS THE SHIZZZZZZZZLE! CLOUD ROXORS!"
That's because were civilized people. It doesn't mean FF 7 isn't an amazing game- we're just good at controlling our emotions. -_-
-
You misunderstood me. Just about everywhere else I go, people crap their pants over FFVII. I do not share their opinion. Great game, nowhere near the best.
-
I didn't mean to offend you; from your language I can see you are intellectual as well. I simply pointed out that we are not the screaming fanboys whom you seem have met-and Characterized so well  Gamefaqs i presume?
The sad thing is, that some people take a lot of shit from those guys, and some take out their rage at guys like me, who love ff7 but are capable of intelligent speech. Not that you did in any way, but some ff7 haters become as bad as the ff7 fanboys.
-
 Noone that like Diablo?
-
I do- I just classify it as a Dungeon Crawler-a genre I don't personally consider rpg.
-
Super Mario RPG
I was playing Super Mario Kart for Game Cube yesterday and I had a thought. If Nintendo got it together and put all their effort into a RPG that featured most of Nintendo's big names, had a great plot, and amazing graphics then they would have a serious beyotch on their hands. (maybe somthing like SMRPG meets Kingdom Hearts, only without the anime) Nintendo has a Sleeping Giant at their disposal and I'm not too sure that they even know it.
