I don't know if anyone else noticed, but we never saw Tom die….I think we'll end up smashing into Impel down, and he'll be imprisoned there.
Tom Lives!
-
-
Yes! I would love that!
Everything gets so happy when he is around! Please Oda let Tom be alive!
-
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but we never saw Tom die….I think we'll end up smashing into Impel down, and he'll be imprisoned there.
I had thoughts about that to. But although we never saw Tom being executed, it was said he was being taken to Enies Lobby to be killed.
-
Actually, to be in terrogated regarding the plans ^_^
-
They pretty much said he was going to be killed.
This has been discussed extesnively. I'd be pretty disappointed if he came back.
-
Me too. I didn't like him very much, but I hope I don't sound mean when I say that I hope he died years ago. Pell was tough, but Spandam keeping Tom alive, especially NOW, would just be dumb. Oda or not, when Tom shows up with a big grin, I'll say it's dumb.
-
I suspect they've got a huge backlog, it takes years to get anyone dead.
-
Tom: Hello with a Don!
Franky: Tom san your still alive?
Tom: (sees Franky's immodesty) WHAT THE HELL?!(with a Don) -
Don't get me wrong, I love Tom, but him being alive would really serve no purpose.
Spandam even said he was dead, but some speculate that he was bluffing. I doubt it, though.
-
They said that no man ever has got back from eneis lobby alive. Maybe Tom is an example how that is possible.
Spandam maybe keeped him as a saftey when they was going to confrontate Galley La. With Tom as a bait. Maybe. -
If Spandam was using Tom as bait he would have shown him to the Franky already since the marines are getting their asses kicked.
-
Yeah, really. If Spandam was going to try to use Tom as a bargaining tool then he wouldn'tve said he was dead.
-
I'm with the Tom is already dead crowd. As Bucc said, it was disappointing when Oda kept Pell alive, and similarly, it'd be disappointing again if now Tom were alive as well. Also, w/ Pell, we didn't have to wait very long to find out he was still alive, and Tom has been presumed dead for quite a few chapters now. I'd prefer his sacrifice to strengthen Franky than to have his miraculously rescued if the SH/FF invade Impel Down as well.
-
tom being alive would suck. it would just cause problems for the story as to what happens to him and how he's protected from the world government after this arc. we only need two runaways in the mugiwara.
-
They said that no man ever has got back from eneis lobby alive. Maybe Tom is an example how that is possible.
That would greatly diminish what the SH crew is doing, though.
(I agree with the "Tom is dead" crowd.)
-
And it would also make Franky's standoff with the train seem stupid and pointless.
-
I figger Tom is probably dead, but I wouldn't be totally disappointed if he were alive, either. There are a lot of fun things Oda could do with that, and hey…somebody needs to have a flashback where nobody dies, right? As morbid as Robin's is sure to be, it'd be kinda nice to have Franky's get a happy ending...
-
Me too. I didn't like him very much, but I hope I don't sound mean when I say that I hope he died years ago.
Well, I love Tom and I still hope for the same as you do.
-
Tom being alive would seriously cheapen Franky's flashback. The intense, emotional climax of that flashback just isn't the same if you know that Tom survives anyway. Doesn't mean Tom is definatly dead, but I would rather he be left to the black pages.
-
You guys know Oda, if we dont see him die, he isnt dead. the last time we saw tom he was alive, they could've thrown him in impel down or something.
Franky or Iceberg saying that tom is dead anywhere in the manga doesnt really prove anything because its implied he is dead because of where he went. but for all we know he could still be prisoner.
Thats another thing that bothers me with the current arc, Spandam keeps threatening to kill Robin and Franky, but like, he still needs the blueprints from franky, im not sure if he needs robin to read the blueprints, its implied in some cases that he does, and its implied in some cases that he doesnt (young franky wanting to build it when tom shows him and iceberg the prints).

i'll say it again there, but i think the poneglyphs allow you to revive the weapon, as it may be "sleeping" somewhere on earth. maybe it's just tfor locating it. and the blueprints allow you to build a ship which is the clone of pluton.
i see it as the carpenters who made pluton decided it was a good idea to keep the blueprints in order to make something of equal power in case pluton comes back to "life"
-
:withstupi Oops,…I meant :dito:. The Poneglyphs give the informations about the Ancient Weapons location. If they would be blueprints then the Poneglyph´s wouldn´t be based solely on texts.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if Tom were really alive.
The focus on the World Government's attention on Iceburg seems to have been acquiring the plans for Pluton; this indicates that they are fairly certain that they can construct this vessel themselves even without the help of the man widely acknowledged to be the greatest shipwright in the world.
The loss of many Galley-La shipwrights, which construct many of the Navy's vessels, was considered acceptable collateral damage so long as they gained control of the blueprints. So they obviously didn't intend for Galley-La to build this ship.
Of course, they may be planning to have Lucci, Califa, and Kaku oversee the construction, but you'd think that if their goal is to create an invincible warship and they had access to one of the greatest living shipwrights, then they'd have kept him alive. Not to mention the fact that somebody had to have trained the Galley-La spies in the first place for them to secure jobs seeing as how the company has what seems to be a fairly strenous entrance exam. Shipwrights trained by Tom should be able to fill any requirements that an apprentice of Tom would have.

i don't see where's the difference between what you say and what i said. i clearly said the poneglyphs allow you to revive it or locate it. with a "or" that is not exclusive. i've NEVER said poneglyphs were blueprints.
i send back your first smiley to you
-
Erm,…the smileys I used should actually indicate that I agree with what you said, so there shouldn´t be a different point of view here.
I just supported your statement by trying to explain that if the Poneglyphs would in fact be blueprints of the Ancient Weapons, then we would have seen drawings on them because blueprints are full of that. And yet the Poneglyphs don´t have any of that kind on them. Understood?
-
I don't understand y people think itll cheapen Franky's flashback if Tom was alive. The whole point of it was that Tom was separated from them, and if u read wat the judge says it says the orders changed from execution to being imprisoned in impel down. If they were going to execute him then theyd execute him in front of everyone else. Now u ask "well maybe they didnt want an uprising". all the townspeople hated him in the end so that doesnt make sense.
imo Franky's flashback wasnt that touching or emotional anyways. i really don't feel any affection for any of the new characters in this arc… -
Franky's flashback was pretty important to this story arc. It was also insanely important to his character. What would his sacrifice mean if Tom was still alive?
If characters like Nami, Usopp, or Franky get reunited with their real parent/s, then we'll get a touching moment. To me, Tom being alive would be like Hiluluk or Bellemere being alive. It wouls be much worse than the whole Pell incident.
-
there's no reason for tom to be alive. he already handed down his blueprints and franky wouldn't have a role (building the greatest ship) if tom came back.
he's dead.
ooshi78
-
I think Tom's dead, but we might get a short recollection of the events of his death. Since we don't actually see him die and all, it'd help.
-
maybe Tom left stuff there… for Franky to find..
-
It doesn't seem likely that he's dead. The judge was VERY careful with his words. Spandam is the only shit who has gone around saying he's dead.
-
Eh.
I don't really mind if Tom is alive or not.
Though, I would be if he was alive he will not be same as he was before.
He would be like a Shell or something.
-

he's dead.

Completely agrees. Nice, neat and to the point! :dito:
-
everytime oda kills off a character he SHOWS the person dying. We SAW Hilruk, norland, and nami's mother die. Oda doesnt kill a character by just saying he/she died. He shows it
-
I think tom's still alive, but horribly mutilated.
-
As much as I hope he's dead (because it just seems right), I have the feeling he is alive.
-
can u guys give me the chapter and page where spandam says tom is dead? i cant seem to find it
-
I think tom's still alive, but horribly mutilated.
Same, or just lost alot of weight. I couldnt see the Gov killing one of the best providers of ancient weapon info so quick. Torchering for years i can see though
-
I think the fact it took a few years for CP9 to come to Water 7 shows that the World Government didn't kill Tom as soon as he got to Enies Lobby, instead they tried to get him to tell them the location of the blueprints. But now he's either dead or looks completely different to how he did when he was sentenced.
-
Hm…
This could be a scene if they go to ID and see Tom alive.
Tom: ....A skeleton with skin still on What the don? his hollow eyes stared at Franky..... Franky?
Franky: ... Tom-san? You still alive? ....I thought you die?
Tom: ...I am still alive don...
He laugh faintly
Tom: though, I don't don look that good...or something like that.
or... That most insane person in One Piece has nothing on him!
-
I'm going to quote everything I can find said by the judge/Spandam to clear it up.
These are all from Stephen's scripts.
chapter 353:
Officer: For the crime of creating the "Oro Jackson," the personal ship
of worldwide criminal mastermind, the "pirate king," Gold Roger,
we hearby sentence Tom the shipwright to be taken to Enies Lobby
AND EXECUTED!!!!chapter 354:
- Page 148 -
People: Tom's gonna be executed!!!
For building the Pirate King's ship!!!Boys: Tom-san!!!
Judge: Normally, there is no crime in a shipwright selling a ship to anyone.
But the "Pirate King" is a special exception.
Anyone who is judged partially responsible for his acts of piracy must be considered dangerous.- Page 149 -
Judge: Thus you will be "executed."
Take the guilty party away.Chapter 355:
People: The judiciary ship is here!!
Tom's sentence will be announced!!Marine: Have you seen the Sea Express, your Honor?
Judge: Not just seen it, I rode it. He did just what he said he would…
I don't think anyone would complain about a pardon now.Chapter 356:
Judge: First… the "Sea Express."
I commend you for your splendid work.
No doubt the future growth of Water Seven
will owe itself to you.
Furthermore...
The previous charge, of building Gold izer's finally started working!!
ARREST ALL THREE MEN CHARGED WITH ATTACKING THE SHIP!!!Marines: Yessir!!
Judge: WAIT!!!
Spandam: Huh?
Judge: The charges have been changed.
- Page 219 -
Judge: For the crime of creating the ship of the Pirate King "Gold Roger,"
I sentence the shipwright Tom, to be taken to Enies Lobby!
Dismissed.Spandam: ...the old fool's been struck by sentimentality.
Very well, I have no use for the apprentices.
Release his apprentices!!Cocoro: There's nothing we can do for Tom-san now...
We're helpless against the world government.
Hold it in, boys... Tom-san saved your lives.
If you make them your enemy... you'll never win...!!
Enies Lobby is the government's judicial island. No man who's ever been taken there
has ever returned!!!379:
- Page 14 -
Spandam: Those idiots foolish enough to block our way must be killed as sacrifices for PEACE!!!
Just as that FISHMAN who wouldn't give up the goods like we asked him to was killed as treason towards justice!!!Franky: The reason Tom-san gave his life to protect the plans
WAS BECAUSE OF MORONS LIKE YOU!!!! -
This post is deleted!

Release his apprentices!!Yeeeeeeep! There it is. We know no one has been found innocent but we also know not everyone is sentenced to death. And uh, I have no reason to trust anything Spandam says.
This doesn't mean I think everything will end with daisies, but it doesn't seem that we've seen the last of Tom in one form or another.
-
Well, the judge said that Tom would have to carry out the previous sentence, which included an execution.
-
That doesn't mean he didn't take anything into special consideration. It seemed fairly obvious that the judge saw through Spandam's bullshit but couldn't ignore the law given the circumstance.
-
0.0 well I did expect some negative reaction, but not with this much venom to it….
It's not like I pictured him suddenly popping out of the water screaming "GAPING PLOTHOLES WITH A DON!" I kind of saw them finding him half dead in Impel down (ah-la Kuniki's post, although I always still see him fat.) And anyway, I think finding tom could easily help cement the storyline--clear up Frankie's guilt for hurting Tom in the first place by rescuing him now.
EDIT: This past was written before I'd caught all the way up....it swung around some at the end there ^_^
-
That would be great.
-
Whoa Cap´n Carter, I had such a rought time understanding the first paragraph of Chapter 356 you quoted. The whole "Gold izers" stuff was confusing to me until I checked it myself and saw the typo.
Well anyways, I agree with your point. 14 years before those events, Tom should have received the death penalty for his "crime". And now the Judge even said, that everything is as it was 14 years ago, so by that logic he should have received the death penalty.
-
capn carter im not sure which translation u used but the judge doesnt say that he will be executed. He does indeed say that Tom has to recieve punishment for helping gold rogers, but then after that he says that the orders changed from being executed to being imprisoned. Spandam even gets pissed at the judge and askes if hes gone crzy
