VCRs are like deathtraps, they even design them to be confusing.

yeah, i tried pressing some buttons and one of those spiked logs can swinging down from the trees.

Try looking for a universal remote control at your local electronics retailer. I have one, and I program my VCR with it. Mind you, you might have to experiment with the buttons because it might have different controls on it.
