Oh and she loves the anime, considers it much better than LA.
Honestly, I too am amazed at how well it sill holds out, especially against current anime episodes. That old style was perfection for me.
My Mom and Sister both watched the live action show and loved it, something I never thought I would say

Yeah, there's very little filler up through ALabasta so it paces great. What filler there is, is mostly completely stand alone episodes, fully original stories rather than padding.
Then they caught up with the manga.
They switched from 2 chapters per episode to 1.5 per in Skypeia and you can feel the slowdown... and then to 1 chapter per in Water 7 and its been a slog ever since.
@Robby I found the pacing tolerable enough until Enies Lobby. Then during early Thriller I switched to manga and never actually followed episodes since, except to take a peek. Doesn't help that the animation changed for the worse.
Last thing I saw is Roger vs Whitebeard bit and that looked atrocious.
The animation had a massive upgrade when they got to Wano. Unfortunately the pacing is still bad.
The drawing style and direction is what puts me off. The fat lines, the saturated colors, the overuse of "special effects" when showing abilities and attacks etc.
@Razh I know it's also reflective of how major One Piece battles have changed these days, but good lord I can't take anymore HUGE auras, lightning strikes, dbz sfx library
I'll give it up for the anime having moments that look good but the pacing still sucks that I don't think I'd regularly watch it ever again lol
