It just switches off? No warning, no "normal shutdown procedure"?
It might be an inadequate or dying power supply. -
I had the same problem once, and I realised that of all things, the power supply cable has loosened, and everytime I slightly nudged my computer table, the computer turned off.

I had a problem with my Mac once, where it kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to shut down. Turned out some desk clutter was resting on the key you pressed to shut down.
The question is, does it shut down randomly, or does it seem like it's been on the same amount of time each time it shuts down? It could be a setting in the systems setup.
