Given our grand grand grandchildren will probably outlive us by a century from now. Do you guys know when One Piece will be in the Public Domain? Given I have thought about what would happen if One Piece ends up in the Public Domain do many of its concept art, cut characters, and stories related to the manga get released by that day? I know for the United States it's 70 years after the death of the author passes but with stuff like Japan, it's much longer I guess so I wonder if sometime down the line like we could see a horror movie based on One Piece that can be a little crazy in it of itself. And I guess Japan won't use copyright strikes on us since it'll be based on the first volume so no gears 1 to 1000 to basically stuff that wasn't revealed yet like Minkmen or other things so that would be confusing if people want to use Kaido in a battle with Aizen. So do you guys think after we die our kid's kid's kids could make some cool stuff out of One Piece when it hits the Public Domain or what? Just wondering so my math isn't far off I guess.
One Piece in the Public Domain?

We already have a One Piece horror movie, it's called Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.
But wikipedia says Japan also has 70 years of copyright protection after the author's death. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_law_of_Japan )Legal issues aside, I can imagine an OP world free of copy right, it's a mix betwen yearly movies with the crew going on random adventures, new series with new protagonists being created to explore other parts of the world, and a ton of adaptations and remakes of the most popular parts of the series.
Kinda like Sherlock Holmes. There's a new movie or tv series every decade, adapting and remaking his most famous/popular stories, and now even a book series about his sister Enola Holmes, which is a new character. -
@FolhaS I hope Ghost in the Shell also becomes real soon because I wanna transfer my soul inside a robot body so I can see this stuff happen in real-time also going on the Moon and Mars I guess.

@NephalLuci Just realized how little thought my own statement had. Shueshia likely owns far more of One Piece then Oda and if it couldn’t ever go 100% to him then I would rather it eventually be in the public domain.

I know it's like every other piece of media, but I'll still have to reconcile with the fact that one day, Luffy and friends will outlive me.

One Piece has already started to the point where you could read it to your grandchildren.
One Piece will eventually outlive me. However since One Piece was marketed for young boys in 1997, I was like 16 years old so technically I fit the demographic group so I'm 42, most adult has children at young age so at this point there are young adults popping up and will soon have children. So good luck in another few years.
