Ah, well I'm glad I bought it. There's…really a lot to say about it...
I enjoyed it, but I really REALLY wanted to see more Tokimi, Tsunami, and Washu stuff....guess I'll have to wait for the next DVD. Grr... >_> Z, love him. I can't wait to see him more in action. Ok, now for the dub and sub opinions.

      Dub:
Well to be honest...I was disappointed. Really. It took me completely out of the story, hearing everyone's rusty performances (excluding Sasami). Miller was very weak in the first episode as Tenchi, but got...sub-par by episode 3. Nowhere near his first performance in Tenchi. Second, I didn't HATE Marshall's Ryoko, but I didn't really like it too much either. Too...young sounding....And Mihoshi...a little too dumb. Her old english VA had just the right mix I thought. And....I don't even know if Katsuhito is the same, damn he had an AWESOME voice in the first dub. Nobiyuki had a great voice too in the first dub, but I don't know if it was the same guy in that though, like in the sub. If it is...and he returned...he's HORRIBLY out of practice. All the new characters however, had very good voices.

      Sub:
GREAT. GREAT GREAT GREAT. Loved it all. Brought me right back in. All the original VAs, great stuff. All of them spot-on-perfect in the original. From Nobiyuki's great funny lines to Tenchi's screams, everything is great.

The music and animation has changed, but I see no HUGE problems in them.
The music isn't the same, but it's still very good and has it's own quality I enjoy about it. So I give it 9/10.

The animation...well it's upgraded and a lot of the characters look great, but my personal complaint was that Washu just kinda...looks off. And Ryoko's GREEN tail kind of annoyed me a tad. But still good and it's not like they COMPLETELY changed the style, so that's good. The thing I don't like about new animation though is that "trucks" are CG...and they look like CRAP. Can't anyone draw a TRUCK now adays? So I give it 8.5/10.

All in all, a great buy...but if you're looking for a revisit into the old dub...you WILL be disappointed.

      So sub: 9.5/10
      Dub: 6.5/10

You get what you put in, and people get what they deserve.

      What S-CRY-ed character are you?

Yeah I kind of new they weren't going to have most of the original cast if any in the dub, so I didn't even bother with it. The problem is pioneer no longer exist's and funimation got the rights to the new OVA. I think if Pioneer was still around they would have had more of the original cast come back.

I think that the problem was that some of them just didn't WANT to return. Is why. Either way, I've always liked the sub more than the dub, and the sub was EXCELLENT.

You do have a point, CW. However I think you're being just a tad too hard for the dub. Miller was out of practice for Tenchi for awhile but by the end of the first episode he was ALMOST the same as before. But I definately know what you're talking about, but he was not FAR BELOW SUB-PAR.

Oh and for your Katsuhito and Nobiyuki question. In the first dub, yes the same man played both parts as in the Japanese version, but they could not get him to return. Shame, he was about on par with the original Jap VA.

Hopefully though everyone will be "warmed up" so to speak by the 2nd volume. But I'll still watch the sub first though.
