We will probably have an ideology fight among the marine between CP0 and Sword. It will also be interesting to see what Kuzan aims at even if it is hard to develop such thing in a cover story

There is no way Kaku's and Stussy's statements won't have a follow-up, one way or the other.
It clearly indicates that direction. -
Well that was a nice chapter wasn't it? Definitely had more of the classic One Piece flair. There's not really anything that I would consider bad, so I'll list some nitpicks instead. Followed up by two silly theories at the end.
The Good:
- Franky and Sanji going crazy for their specific reasons. I know it's nothing new especially with Sanji but this actually coming back to Vegapunk thinking they actually acted as decoy for Lilith to lower her guard is just perfect.[/chefskiss]
- Stella and Satellites. Most of us predicted that Vegapunk transfered his mind into an artificial body. But that he actually split it up into seven with different aspects of his personality adds a nice spin to it. I've just got two questions I'm curious about now. 1) Are all equally brilliant or do the different personality traits also influence the level of brilliance? 2) Is the main body dormant while the 6 Satellites are active or are we talking about copies here? Looking forward to get more answers here.
- Shaka taking the Strawhats serious. Not just their reputation as Doflamingo did but by also reading the situation for what it is. Not do dunk on Doffy but him being well informed about what the Strawhat's did in the past is what led to his downfall as he thought he got them figured out. Vegapunk at least takes the moment at face value, which is nice to see.
- Bartholomew Bonney. Not much to say about this. I just like this plot reveal.
- Both Lilith and Atlas talking about funds being a problem for them. Could provide a possible explenation as to why Vegapunk is working with the WG in the first place. They might have the most funds. It might be "you do weapons for us and we help you fund your research" kind of deal. Add in a "we're only using them against bad guys, we promise" and somebody with their eyes on research would fall for this. Let's not forget that back in Bulgmore the residents told Franky that Vegapunk actually tried to fix the climate of the island but he never actually was successful with this. Might funds have been the issue all along? Atlas even says that with a little more money they could control the weather. Money being a key factor in the cooparation strikes me as likely.
- That said just one little thing I really like about the funding part is that we actually got hints of this being a thing back at Sabaody. Remember that when Sentomaru appeared in front of the Strawhats, he scolded the destroyed PX-04 by saying "it takes the funding worth to build a battle ship to create one of you things". Of course this chapter is a completely different layer to this aspect but it's nice to see that those words were more than just a throwaway line. This is actuall part of the previous point but I thought it's easier on the eyes to make it two points.
- Atlas' Astroboy design. I friggin' love it!
- Hologram punch? Ok, now we've got some interesting gizmo's there that could be used to create weapons to fight Kizaru even if one doesn't have Haki. Makes me wonder what other things Vegapunk might have.
- Lucci being back and having something that distantly resembles a personality? More please! I'm not kidding myself and treating this as some deep character development, but it's nice for him to actually question things. Both the weirdness of what Vegapunk pulled off as well as the motivations behind this assignment itself. I just would like clarification about Kaku's words in the last panel. Because the other two scans I've read made it seem like a general statement about just going with the orders as usually, whereas the official version makes it more seem like Lucci is already established a mindset for this mission that could be problematic. I guess I will have to check the Japanese line for that. Either way seeing Lucci and Kaku back makes it seem as this is really going to be a Zou like arc. Both have certainly gotten stronger but I don't see them as worthy antagonists to pose the same level of obstacle they once did. Plus I'd rather see them protected as Crocodile has been ever since his return. So a minor skirmish without the necessity of a big fight would work best.
The Nitpicks:
- Bonney forgetting to tell about meeting Sabo at Marijois. I don't know, it just feels a tiny bit forced to have it here but necessary to explain something that happens later. But really nothing big. I just feel like it might have worked without mentioning it at all. Kinda like "look at this piece of inner monologue! It will become important later." I mean it says a lot about the quality of the chapter if I have to mention something like this as a "bad"
- The panel where the holograms and all kinds of different gizmos get revealed. Visually great. I just wish this would have been a double spread. We already didn't get to see Luffy make port on Egghead while riding the Sunny and now he just appears in the middle of this fantastic place. I just feel a spread with some "WOW!" face panels would have been nice. Again, that's being super nitpicky as there really is not something I personally find bad in this chapter.
- "Masked Killers" - Didn't Robin say that the masked guys among CP0 are the very strong ones? Not saying Lucci and Kaku aren't strong but if they now also get labelled as masked killers literally everyone we know in CP0 is actually a masked assassin. So what's the point of Robin singling out those amongst the group if seemingly all have it? Again, minor nitpick and also possibly me remembering things wrongly.
Theory Time!
Revolutionaries #1
I've thought for a long time, that there is a connection between Vegapunk and the Revolutionaries. This deal between Kuma and Vegapunk just seemed weird. Why would Kuma willingly let Vegapunk turn him into an android? Also why would Vegapunk agree and uphold the deal to program Kuma to protect the Sunny? What in it for both of them? And if that's not enough Dragon seems to know exactly what's going on when he said to Ivankov, that he's gonna explain to him what happened to Kuma. It's just my personal interpretation of the scene but what if Dragon is not only in on this but actually orchestrated this?If that would be the case, what's the endgame here? Having Vegapunk join the Revolutionist Army? If yes, in what manner. Just being snatched away from the WG or staying there and secretly boycotting the WG by creating weapons that will backfire on them? Suddenly I'm getting "Execute Order 66" vibes, only less evil and lethal. If Vegapunk did something like this with the Seraphim, there might be no way for the WG to know until it's too late.
And having the WG now wanting to eliminate him really raises the question why? Has he outlived his usefulness? Possible but would the WG really not keep him if there's the slightest chance that he might create a new weapon in the future? Unless the funds thing really is a matter and the "scientist for hire" reached a dead end in weapon development and has only technology that helps people in mind. With the Kuma fiasco protecting the Sunny, the Seraphim being completed and funds being a thing the likely conclusion might be that the WG really milked him as much as they good. But would that not also mean they wouldn't want him to fall in enemies hands now that they don't need him anymore while he still needs funds? Just recently in Wano Orochi expressed interest in Vegapunk. Others might have too. Dragon might be one of them.
I know it's all very far fetched but thinking that Dragon might actually want to recruit Vegapunk or secretly might have already done so strikes me a possible scenario, even if it is the lesser likely one. Be that as it may, I'm eager to find out where this is all going.

If you thought the first one was a stretch then you are not going to like this one. Back in the day an old theory of mine was that the CP9 agents would end up joining forces with the Revolution Army. In their coverstory they were already turned sympathetic and made heroes at best and anti-heroes at worst. Also they antagonized Spandam. However that alone was not the reason. When we saw Robin's cover story we saw that Bunny Joe and the other revolutionists around him had animal masks. Back then I thought the Revolution Army was animal themed which worked nicely with that one CP9 animal shot in their own coverstory. I kid you not. That was really one of the reasons why I thought so.^^'Obviousl I was wrong. Neither are the Revos animal themed nor did CP9 join the RA. What's worse, while Crocodile's turn seemed to be going somewhere Lucci on the other hand on his return just preaches the same songs he did before during his fight with Luffy. Only this time it's the Celestial Dragons God remix of the classic song. Quite the letdown after the build up from the cover story, which usually do the first job in showing that characters will return in a somewhat different light.
But now with this very chapter with Lucci's showing little signs of personality and questioning I can't help but return to that old theory of mine. What if he and Kaku (and everyone else) actually DID join the revolutionists? But we just didn't see it because it's a surprise reveal. After all, Lucci and Kaku stayed undercover at Water Seven for five whole years pretending to be shipwrights. If they could keep up that lie perfectly, then they could pretend to be government agents in their sleep. That's right, I'm suggesting that Lucci and Kaku are double agents and actually work for the Revolution Army. Dun-Dun-DUN!!
Please take both theories with a grain of salt. I'm basically just reactivating to old silly theories of mine because with this chapter they seem at least possible. Not really saying that I think this is where the story will take neither Vegapunk nor Lucci. I just liked to throw it out here again.

I was still banking on the Blackbeard Pirates being the ones who invaded Cacao Island in the beginning of this cover story, so I'm happy to see Aokiji now confirming my expectations.
One angle that suddenly jumped out at me is the title of this cover story "An Emotionless Excursion) now has a double meaning, now it doesn't just refer to the emotionless Vinsmoke children, but also to Aokiji, who is largely perceived to be cold and emotionless unless you know him well.

Shilliew was always incorrect garbage Engrish, and an example of author's word being priority 99.9% of the time, but not always when it comes to foreign words as used in their native languages.

I want to see docking of all the Vegapunks. 6 separate bodies, so two legs, two arms, a torso and a head.
I do imagine that the six different Vegapunks have specialized themselves. Like No 2 goes for the creation of beings with their own will and No 5 in turn seems to be the one who might be responsible for the climate change of the island, though I think its likely that she? is responsible for the creation of the smaller machines, like the one we saw which produced the beverages & edibles for Luffy & Co. -

A few random thoughts I've had, since re-reading the chapter:
- Luffy (or Chopper or Jinbe) haven’t even asked Bonney why she looked like a little kid at first. And we haven’t seen her fruit in action since landing on the island. Obviously, Oda’s going have a few shenanigans with that fruit but really only the Strawhats make sense as victims (because what’s the fun in doing that with CP0 except as an ending). Oda would not turn down the chance to draw them as kids or old people for a while (but heaven help him if he makes Sanji hit on a child Nami or Robin), which in turn would make CP0 more dangerous (sadly that means we might get a save Robin and save Bonney thing, just to give a reason why Bonney can’t turn them back easily). So, a brief fall out between Bonney and the Strawhats is likely, probably concerning Vegapunk.
- I actually think a few Vegapunk’s are going to die (and to be honest, having a Vegapunk vaporized by a Seraphim would be ironic), or at the least seem like it. Going back to the above, we might see a case where some tech to go haywire and possibly doom the island. Meaning that Bonney is needed to fix one of the Vegapunks so they can stop whatever self-destruct sequence has been activated.
- I’m not really a fan of Luffy’s big fight being against a Seraphim, given the fact it’s an emotionless machine, but unless Vegapunk turns out to be as immoral as his fellow M.A.D. compatriots, there’s really no one going to or at Egghead it could work with.
- There’s probably a seventh Vegapunk, and I hope there’s a “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” moment to go with it.
- This is premature, but I kind of hope that when the Strawhats leave the island, with Vegapunk going with Bonney to fix Kuma, and all the tech wrecked, they see it destroyed by Uranus.

Personally I vibe with the idea of all 6 Vegapunks "dying"...then, as the last post-Egghead-scene we get a small vessel (maybe an Ufo or something) docking on Egghead and an ominous seventh shade overlooking the wreckage and going all "oh goddamn, can't leave the house for a day, can I?"

I'd be down for all 6 dying before the StrawHats manage to save the main body for whatever reason.
Or, 6 die including the main body and whichever VP is last standing leaves the island with Bonney and/or StrawHats.
Either way, now the WG ordered his execution, I don't see much of a point to any of the Vegapunks remaining on the island afterwards.Speaking of main body, isn't Stella - labelled as the star these satellites orbit around - your seventh Vegapunk?

Yeah, unless Vegapunk is meant to be the main antagonist, I hope this arc is more like the Zou arc where the main antogonist was swiftly dealt with. In this case it would be CP0. Maybe they shouldn't be swiftly dealt with but having them not really be a threat would be best if Vegapunk won't be the main antagonist.

I could see the satellites dying if Oda had given them the same personalities, making them all just replicas of the original Vegapunk. But since they have their own personalities, this makes them all unique individuals and I can't see Oda mass murdering them (particularly when one is already shown to have a child appearance).
Regarding the antagonist of the arc, it's funny how I didn't saw a single person bringing up the possibility Stussy might be the actual strongest member in that group.
Many of us noted that Oda won't have the SH fight Lucci and Kaku again, some that Lucci remark at the end of the chapter will develop into some unloyal behavior, but no one considered Stussy might not be just the female sidekick.
Not that I think she will be, mind you, just curious none of us considered the possibility. -

Neither did Crocodile who let the people of a country engage in meaningless slaughter and mentally torture Vivi. But look where we are now. If Oda wants him to end up as an ally, he will do it. The CP9 cover story alone set even Lucci up to be somewhat heroic.

One thing that hit me after Cockycent pointed the damaged ground is, this could have been where a frozen Pudding was standing and next episode will show BB pirates carrying her away complete with ice block and a bit of pavement still attached.
Not sure about Shiryu being there, though. I would expect slashed people left and right on top of the freezing if it were the case. -
Based on the footwear and clothes shown in chapter 1046 cover, to me it looks like Aokiji and Van Augur or Lafitte. I'd think Lafitte would be more of an asset to the mission, considering he can hypnotize people. Plus it would be easier to showcase his ability than Van Augur's shooting prowess and possible Observation in cover format.

Why wouldn't he? He's either in deep cover or doing things for another goal of his. Perhaps freezing people was done for greater good, perhaps his partner was about to kill everyone either way. You know, just by being part of BB pirates he probably gets to witness innocent people being hurt all the time.
Guess it could be some government agents looking for Pudding as well, but from the plot standpoint, BB needs to collect all the glyphs and needs a deciphering tool to continue being an immediate threat. And we know he's an opportunist. Even without the glyph and Pudding, Totto Land is ripe for the picking in its weakened state, with all the devil fruit users there.

Why wouldn't it mean much? From what we've seen so far Kuzan is far more impressive than the whole lot of Blackbeard Pirates excluding Teach combined. Him showing his true colors at the right moment could make a big difference.
With Kuzan's character, Burgess expressing distrust in him and Sword being a thing, it's very likely he's infiltrated the crew to destroy them from within.

It's just a matter of taste. I'd rather him play the good guy and lose than play the bad guy and lose anyway, all the while not really making a positive difference. Just helping the villain.

That's why I said "at the right moment". Sure, he could turn on Teach directly in a monent where it wouldn't mean much. But there's also the chance that he turns by stopping a plan Teach has set in motion. Be it by stopping one Teach's officers or just some weapon/calamity/whatever that get's unleashed. There's more than one ways to turn. Not everyone of them has to result in failure.
