@black-leg-jex The third possibility is very intriguing indeed.
The next arc: what will it be?
-
-
I suppose the next arc is going to be about the Straw Hats helping out Vivi since they have a first-person witness now: Bonney
-
If it was indeed the island Scotch was located wouldn't it mean that you would first have to go through Wano and likely a lot of Emperor territory in order to get there? Both Drake and Caribou seemed to have arrived there very soon after entering the New World. Not saying it's not possible but strikes me as highly unlikely.
-
@Ivotas
Traveling in One Piece is very plot-dependent. If the plot demands it, you arrive there.Caribou's arrival seemed like an accident. He took his ship and abandoned his brother and crew to escape the marines. He was then caught in a storm and sank.
Drake, as a marine mole, could have an eternal pose and went there knowing it was Kaido's territory.
Also, because the log pose can point to three locations, it's not impossible that there's more than one possible rote for certain islands in the New World.
-
@Deicide
Yes, traveling always depends on what the plot dictates. But at the same time it's also a constant about the travels on the Grand Line (unless Oda plans to retcon that one too) that the logs point at the next island(s) on the route. Not the previous ones. And for Caribou to casually cover this much ground in the New World it would just strike me as a bit odd. -
I like this idea that we're going to Kaido's favorite island where Caribou was during his cover story. It ties with revolutionaries, Caribou, etc.
Also, there's this theory that this island is God Valley being reconstructed by Kaido's orders. This would be a good opportunity for some lore dump, and it's convenient to go to God Valley (an island erased from the map) right after we saw Lulusia being erased from the map.
-
@theackwardstation
That's an interesting theory. Never heard of it! -
@Deicide I think I've never seen this theory on Youtube or in any big forum, but maybe my memory is betraying me. If I remember correctly, it was a little epiphany that happened here in Arlong Park in a random thread, but I don't know if I were the one who came up with the idea or somebody else. But yes, I like it too.

Well, the log never points back, but there's nothing saying two different islands can't point to the same island ahead.

While that seems to ring true only in the New World it still doesn't would still appear that the Logs don't just skip islands but go to the batch and so on. And for Kaidoland to be one of three possible next islands after Wano, Caribou would have to skipped quite a number of islands to casually make it that far. It kinda undermines the danger of the route if he can get that far by himself... unless of course someone from an Emperor crew guided him. ;)
-
@Ivotas Caribou probably drifted aimlessly for days before wrecking his ship near the island by pure luck.
The real question is how Coribou constantly locates him. Maybe he has a Vivre Card or something.
-
@Deicide
That's exactly the point. If even the Strawhats, who have more luck than anyone else in the OP world then it really takes away from Caribou drifting through a huge chunk of New World by pure luck. -
@Ivotas It's just what it is, we can't take the rules too seriously, as they are bent or broken all the time in off-screen events. With the main characters, we see how they sometimes bypass them (like finding Drum by happenstance). But secondary characters have some leeway.
I mean, just recently we saw Blackbeard cross both the Red Line and the Calm Belt in time to catch up to a marine fleet that probably left off Paradise to being with and could use the Tarai current for quick travel.
We can only nod and accept those things. At best, we can handwave it as "they got lucky" or "they have some way around it".
-
@Deicide
I wouldn't lump an Emperor who's one of the candidates for final antagonist in together with Caribo. Surely he has better resources to achieve such a feat with his status than Caribo who just drifts along with the current just by himself.But I get the main point you are saying and don't disagree with it.
-
@Deicide I still don't see why this is an issue. Again, Capone Bege had access to paddleships, which renders the Calm Belt moot. And he was ready to cross the Red Line again, meaning he likely has some coating expert in his ship, but the Levely stopped him.
It's all a matter or resources. The average pirate will definitely struggle against those annoyances, but there's no reason to be surprised when Emperors and other experienced pirates have what's necessary to bypass stuff like that.

I'm sold on a Vegapunk arc now
although I'd love an Elbaf arc
-
So, we now know the new arc: Egghead!
I was expecting Vegapunk arc to be the next next one. I was wrong. I was also wrong about this arc being a minor one. This feels like it will be a big arc, thought I hope not as big as Dressrosa or WCI.
Expectations? A lot:
- Lore on Devil Fruits
- A Franky (and maybe Chopper) development
- Return of Tashigi and Smoker
- Chibi Straw Hats (and probably fighting the Seraphim, so we don't have adults beating up kid-like adversaries)
- The Seraphim themselves (how many are there, who fights them?)
- Vegapunk feels like a potentially crazy adversary to overcome
- Bonney's and Kuma's backstory
- More on SWORD and maybe Drake
- Mocha and the Punk Hazard kids
- Potentially more developments for the prologue plots (Cross Guild, Hancock, Koby and Blackbeard), thought it's more likely those will only appear in the epilogue or the next inter-arc chapters.

We will definitely get more info on Devil fruits. I feel like Oda will want to explain the whole Nika situation.
I doubt we will ever get Chopper development. Punk Hazard and Wano were the perfect moments but it never happened.
We might get something small with Franky though.
After punk hazard, I could not care any less about smoker.
Chibi Straw hats would feel like a retread of swapped soul straw hats. I don't see what it would add to the story.
I am excited for Kuma backstory and more Sword info.
Still the arc might be short

Considering Chopper's powerups have been around mastering his forms, I think lore on Devil Fruits can potentially lead him to develop new improvements to Rumble Ball. Or not require them at all.

I think Franky will get huge upgrades. Someone suggested that he, not Vegapunk, will create the means to restore Kuma. I feel a development like that would be a really great way to show his growth, especially since he was the one explaining they owed Kuma a lot after the timeskip.

Nah, characters can always come back better. Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if Smoker has been upgraded in some way by Vegapunk. He was always keen in using tech to improve his fighting abilities. He was the first character using prison bullets, had that blower bike, and the seastone jutte. He could have gotten new weapons.

Oda would love to draw the Straw Hats as kids again.

Oda is loading up the must do plot points in one convenient location. The info dumps will be long and without mercy

I agree with most of these but not all of them. I don't think Chopper will get any development unless it's new info about his Devil Fruit. Franky for sure and probably Sanji again, given Vegapunks connection to Germa (Vegapunk flashback will defo show us Germa before Sanji was born and probably show us Sora in action)
Chibi Straw Hats may show up but it won't be for a fight. If anything it will be for infiltration purpose or to help them escape. Maybe that's where Mocha and the kids will be involved but they might not be involved either. Afterall they aren't at Egghead, they're at a Marine Base. Why would they need to come to Egghead?
Obviously SWORD is involved but I don't think we'll get a lot. I don't expect Drake to show up here but Helmeppo will probably seek out Luffy and ask for his help, because he's one of the few people who knows that Koby and Luffy are friends.
EDIT:

Regarding Smoker, I just realised that it doesn't really matter if he lost to Doflamingo back in Punk Hazard. Law lost to Doflamingo in Dressrosa and then by the time Wano happened he was able to defeat Big Mom (along with Kid but that was still a big boost in power).
So Smoker could've absolutely gotten strong enough to put up a fight against Luffy between Punk Hazard and now.
