The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Thread

Yep .
-
So someone managed to steal 50 vaccine shots in Rio, he just barged into the building and stole them.
-
Bolsonaro's strain in spreading through SA.
-
Second shot done! Woohoo!
And it was delightfully topped while driving home and seeing a guy on the sidewalk holding a sign that said, "COVID-19 vaccines change your DNA".
-
I'm getting my first dose this Sunday. Hopefully, the trolls stay at home.
I'm getting the Sputnik vaccine by the way. Only downside so far seems to be that it isn't yet fully approved by the EU, but other than that, it seems to work fine.
-
Oof, the reactions are starting to hit. My arm is killing me (feels half-asleep), and I'm starting to feel kinda "off" (not sure how else to explain it). But I'm not wailing in agony, so I guess that's good.
-
Got my first shot of Moderna today, let’s gooooo!
-
Everyone I've talked to has said that the second shot really hits you and makes you feel weird. Not looking forward to that, but I've also heard it at least doesn't last long.
-
Yeah, now I'm aching all over. Not sure if I can work tomorrow.

Which unfortunately is one of many bullshit theories regarding the virus.

Yeah, I got my second shot yesterday morning, and by the evening, I had a mild-to-moderate fever. Felt pretty cruddy overnight and this morning; since the afternoon, I've felt mostly okay, but still not 100%.
I'm not surprised, though. I'd heard that Pfizer is the one with fewer side effects and I got Moderna, and also heard that younger people on average have more side effects, so I think I fared relatively well. Didn't have headaches or nausea at all, which are other reasonably common ones.
-
These aches and lethargy certainly are making me feel like shit.

One thing I did for my arm that really helped is put a cold pack on it (or, if you don't have one of those, you could try some ice). It doesn't make it completely go away by any means, but did make the ache more tolerable.
I've also had some aches in other places, too. I've used Bengay to help with those, so if you have something similar, or something like those hot'n'cold patches, that may help.
-

I got the Pfizer vaccine. Here's hoping that holds true.

That's one thing I was curious about is whether we're allowed to use painkillers. I mean, I guess why wouldn't we, right? But I never know with these things.

The nurse told me Tylenol is better than Ibuprofen, and according to the CDC website taking painkillers AFTER your vaccine is ok, you just shouldn't take them before going.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/expect/after.htmlI cracked and took a Tylenol. I just couldn't stand it anymore. I'm feeling . . . a little better, and if I still hurt tomorrow I can probably still work if I take some before. I just won't be able to do anything big.

Orange County is really miles ahead in the Stupidest Entitled Conservative County of America, and well vaguely jests at the deep south and florida that's somethig.
-
The UK strain (B117) is now the dominant strain in the US, according to the CDC from two days ago.
The vaccines are still effective against B117, but they're showing wildly varying results when it comes to the South African variant (501.V2).
The good news is that if you got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine you're going to have some protection when 501.V2 becomes the dominant strain for the inevitable summer spike.
The bad news is AstraZenica's vaccine may be totally ineffective.
Of course, if you hold off getting vaccinated because you want to pick a specific vaccine then you may not make it through the current, deadlier and more virulent B117 wave that's only just starting, so it's better to think of this in terms of how safe you are when going shopping than as something you reasonably change by fighting for a "better" vaccine.
Everyone's going to need a new shot in six months anyway.
-
Is it even safe to take another vaccine shot for the same thing in six months?

As I've said, the only good things in Florida are Disney World and Universal Studios. And maybe the Everglades. You can get away from people there.
-
Is it even safe to take another vaccine shot for the same thing in six months?
It should be.
People have been getting yearly flu shots for decades with no significant side effects.
-
These two new strains have made be quite uneasy these past few months. When it all started more than a year ago, I wasn't that concerned for my own health (I'm healthy, young, and had the privilege of working from home since early March; I've also been taking care and followed the guidelines to the best of my abilities), but now these new variants are said to be posing a much bigger danger to people my age (20-30).
I just hope the vaccine situation gets more stable soon, and booster shots become much easier and faster to obtain in the future. As well as vaccines that are actually effective against the newest variants (although I've read that against the British variant they're pretty good).
-
So there was a life expectancy in your country due to covid, here sure had…by almost 2 years. Good thing a senate hearing will be opened.

Just gonna say, actually living in Orange County, these weirdos are a minority. Most people have been good about pandemic protocols here in general. The nutjobs like these make the news because they're nutjobs. They stay in their own circles and no one gives them the time of day unless they have to. And notice that video cuts off when it gets to a more reasonable person just wanting to talk about special ed stuff.

It's kind of interesting going back to the start of this thread and seeing what people thought about this plague a year ago.
In a "oh, we were so young then, we just didn't know" sort of way.
-
One side affect that seems to have affected both my mom and me: a stiff neck. Not an inhibiting stiffness, but a stiff neck just the same.
-
I had that too, actually. Was alternating putting my good cold pack on my arm and my neck. And also applying lots of Bengay to the latter.
-
I thought I've gotten away with no side effects from the vaccine. Had the joint-ache when I got to bed, but oh boy, that was only the beginning. I couldn't fall asleep, and when I did, I had the stupidest dreams in a while. Also a mild fever and the worst headache I've had since forever.
There's also a weather front coming, so maybe that didn't help my situation.
-

Yeah, I lived in OC for 36 years and I'm not far from it now, it's really not even that conservative either.
-
Yeah I know, but these brave few morons that have been gaining the spotlight are certainly raising the bar for conservative nutjob.
-

Yeah, that's how it was for me, too. It took about eight hours for me to really start feeling much more than soreness, so I thought maybe I wasn't going to until it happened. I think I'd been expecting something more like 4-6 hours.
-
It took me until the next day for it to happen. I'm pretty much okay now but the injection spot is still pretty sore.
-
Look at "Mr I wanna be like Louie Gohmert when I get older over here".
-
Looking at this makes me glad I live in Massachusetts. Note the top three are all New England (although why is Rhode Island outside the top 10? I'm surprised). But what the hell is wrong with Wyoming?

What an idiot. But we knew that.

So far in 15 days 42.445 new graves, gonna beat last moth record with easy. There scientific study pointing that the main blame of the pandemic disaster here is the federal gov't, member of the EU parliament knows it, the whole fucking world knows, except his true believers that blame governor and mayor. I swear If this guy don't get a process in the Hague court…
-
I can understand having some hesitancy, considering how quickly the vaccines were produced and seeing the news of some getting put on hold, or being contaminated, but if they're also not concerned about COVID , want everything opened up and don't want to wear masks and social distance, then they are idiots.
-
I had my vaccine 10 days ago. I had a bruise the day after and it's still there.
-
I didn't get a bruise, but the area was a little red and was tender for several days. But it went away.
I swear If this guy don't get a process in the Hague court…
That sounds about right. Will he? That's the question.
-
That sounds about right. Will he? That's the question.
There at least three petition form the Brazilian Lawyers Association in Hague, of of those the court decided to start a early investigation to see if it holds water to go on.
There's also an senate hearing of the covid handling that's being controlled by the opposition, a petition from one of the supreme court judges asking the president of the congress why none of the more than 60 impeachment pleas has reach the floor, and as per my last post in the World Politics he once again (for the fifth time) commit high crimes and misdemeanors. -
Biden's a little preoccupied with our own COVID problems at the moment, but maybe when things calm down he can give a bit of a push.
-
It seems we weren't the only conservative gov't to (steal) fuck up during Covid.

Confirmed Covid deaths: 400k
Confirmed SARS deaths: 500k
Yep, it's pretty solid to say 90% of those 100k difference were un-diagnosed Covid cases.
Bolsonaro is gonna top Trump for once. -
-
Well, I got my first COVID shot and I'm still alive. So…that's good.
-
I can understand having some hesitancy, considering how quickly the vaccines were produced and seeing the news of some getting put on hold, or being contaminated, but if they're also not concerned about COVID , want everything opened up and don't want to wear masks and social distance, then they are idiots.
I fully understand why people are hesitant but we're not being given an ideal choice.
We can either risk getting very rare side effects from the vaccine and possibly some kind of long-term issues down the line that nobody knows about yet, or risk potentially dying from COVID or very likely suffering from one of the many long-term problems that a very large minority of people who catch COVID will have to live with.
They're both Russian roulette but the vaccine gun has hundreds of thousands of times more bullets in it.
-

What do you mean by this?
-
What do you mean by this?
Oh… oops.
I meant chambers, not bullets. Both carry a risk of death but the risk of death from vaccines is so minute that the better choice is obvious.
-
You apparently have a bigger chance of being struck by lightning than you do of getting blood clots from the J&J vaccine.
-

Oh ok, that makes more sense now.
You apparently have a bigger chance of being struck by lightning than you do of getting blood clots from the J&J vaccine.
I guess it's slightly higher than that if you're a woman before menopause, but not by much.
I got Moderna #1 last week, just a slightly sore arm. Moderna seems to be what is in greatest supply in SoCal, everyone I know who lives in the area has had that one.

Guess where native population deaths due to covid were downplayed by 103%?
-
I would say India but we can’t know for certain
-
I would say India but we can’t know for certain
Modi is definitely censoring numbers, India's death toll is more closely to 300K than what probably is registered officially.
The 103% is here. Hope that makes the native genocide sticks at the Hauge:
