I have a friend who works for FEMA who is assisting giving vaccines in Texas, and they're doing like thousands a day. So good for them. But I'd like to have more over here, please. The coasts are still kinda infected.

Holiday Season only was really good for coffin makers.

I got my first dose of the vaccine last week, as did the coworker I sit next to. We both came back the next day with useless floppy arm. Was lulzy and painful. Weirdly, they also just started enforcing social distancing at work just this week. Felt really random, I think someone new must have complained to someone really high up. So I had to work from home today… comfy but having the kitchen one room over is dangerous all those hours. I don't think I could handle doing that everyday since this started, kudos to those who have been.

An interesting look into possible origins of the COVID mutations that have been sprouting up:

How do you feel now? Weakness within 3 days of the vaccine is normal. And if this condition lasts longer, you need to see a doctor.

that one episode of Spongebob was right, Texas is a dumb state:

For me it lasted the two days after I got the shot. That second day being much better than the first. I hear the second dose is worse, so looking forward to that.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/10/us/houston-doctor-fired-covid-vaccine.html?smid=tw-shareHe also said that one of the officials startled him by questioning the lack of “equity” among those he had vaccinated. "Are you suggesting that there were too many Indian names in that group?” Dr. Gokal said he asked.
Exactly, he said he was told.
…really?
He was fired for not engaging in racial discrimination?
-
Basically he was fired because he saved 10 doses of vaccine running around town vaccinating people that could and should receive it, but since they wErEn'T wHiTe and it was nOt pRoToCol, the hospital booted him and a state attorney deciede to file charges.

China refused to give the WHO raw data on early COVID cases.
This is turning into Trump's tax returns.
-
Only the Trump in this instance actually is a full-blown dictator, so good luck with that.

@Johnny:

Yeah, the relevant data was very likely destroyed last year.
-
You're not starting Lunar New Year very well, China. This is my lunar sign too, so it's pissing me off.

Their Lieutenant Governor is an asshole
Their Attorney General is a dumbass in an addition to being a douche.
Their U.S. Senators & Representatives are pieces of shitShouldn't be surprised at any of this.
Speaking of which where are the same people that praised a hairdresser for opening up during the lockdown to step up and defend this guy who actually did something logical…..oh yeah the doctor isn't white.
-
Other country leaders: "We want to buy and approve more vaccines."
Bozo: "I want the israeli spray based on ovarian cancer medicine that has been tested in only 30 people." "What we have shortage of vaccines? What can I do, I'm not a grave digger." -
Governor Baker is fucking up. He did a good job at the start of the pandemic by making sure things were quarantined properly and making sure masks were worn, but now this fucker can't seem to get the vaccines properly distributed. Seriously, we are only now on getting people over 65 vaccinated, and it's taking forever because it's only by appointment and all the websites are crashing. For Christ's sake.
-
You guys are getting nurses faking vaccinations? Or the Gov't still refuse to sign an accord with Pfizer? if not you're better than us.
-
Oh I know we're still better, but this is a state with plenty of money and people to get this all going better and faster.
Hell my friend in FEMA was helping in Texas (pre-storm), and they were vaccinating 1000+ people every day. One site here (at a big mall) can/will only do 100 spots a day.
-
Sister has the vaccine now (she works with the elderly), but she's still freaked out at the possibility of her being able to infect me even if she's immune. I know that hasn't been proven true or false, but the caution is still there.
Sucks, cause she had to go on a flight today with an asshat who would take off his mask when flight attendants weren't looking and told her that the pandemic is a hoax. You know… Saying it to a woman wearing two masks, a face shield, false glasses, and vaccination. I wish people weren't so damn irresponsible.

Apparently North Dakota saw how Kristi Noem fucked up and decided they couldn’t let the indignity of South Dakota being horribly stupid stand.
-
Got my second dose yesterday. Woke up with mild grogginess and arm pain, decided to go to work. By noon it felt like a moderate flu and I regretted going in. Currently have a throbbing headache, soreness, and I might be imagining a fever. Would go pass out now, but I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night.
I fully recommend scheduling the day after off whenever you get there. This is awful lol.
-
Some people react worse to vaccines than others. I'm sorry yours is so bad.
My mother THANKFULLY got an appointment on Friday. I may ask to switch with someone at work to see if going with her would get me one as her family/companion.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leicestershire-56171006Cleanse the clothes with napalm and fire. Works everytime.

Honestly that article is a bit questionable. First, even if it's only a small nitpick and BBC's fault, COVID is the disease, not the virus, a disease can't "survive" on clothing. Second, they used a virus similar to SARS-CoV-2 so there might be a difference still but we can't tell yet because third and most importantly: That study isn't peer-reviewed yet.
So just use the same caution as before, keep your distance, wear your mask, don't touch your face, wash your hands -
Stupid people, doing stupid things to try and own the scientists
-
Shoving my crotch stank into my mouth to own the libs! Am I winning yet?
-
-
Certainly not the most callous idiocy I’ve seen but not any less stupid than the usual idiocy of that’s been going on for the last year.
-
EXCELLENT burn.
Mom got her first vaccination shot and scheduled for her second. I'm still trying for mine, but Mass. is doing very shittily on the distribution of vaccines.
-
how is the vaccination process being handle in US. In terms of who is getting the vaccines before whom?
-
We're doing it in phases, with healthcare workers being the first. Massachusetts is going like this, but other states may be juggling it differently:

In my state they're just dumping most of the vaccines into the general pool and it's first come first serve.
There was a period when more vulnerable people got priority (when they could find a vaccine appointment) but that seems to be over.
-
sigh And even though the CDC is warning everyone not to quickly roll back business and social restrictions because we are CLEARLY not out of the woods yet, Gov. Baker is doing just that:
https://www.wbur.org/news/2021/03/01/economic-reopening-pandemic-massachusetts?fbclid=IwAR1FRpOi3Pro8Rx3-TD0rCq4cJJ1LxLn2i48Alu2eONvxhCvJ6akwYoqgb8Hospitalizations go down a bit and it's already fine to open everything. NOT.

GOD DAMNIT, what's wrong with US and providing non profit health care. Geez, give preference to the more vulnerable.
-
It really varies by state. In California it's in tiers, with healthcare workers and older age brackets getting it first. And at no cost. Decent system, but it's still hard to get an appointment, and a lot of people got their second dose appointment postponed due to lack of vaccines.
The Texas thing is definitely crazy. Definitely feels too soon for that, I doubt they have a good enough grasp on things to justify doing that. Really curious to see how the general public there keeps up with basic safety practices and what the covid related numbers end up being like. Might lead to other (most likely southern/midwest) states doing similar.
-
FEMA was getting thousands of vaccines out each day, but when you consider how many millions are in Texas, it's still just a drop in the pond.
-
I live in Texas, and this is certainly a start for the nation, although I think Florida also removed their mask mandate before us.
-
Well, be careful. If other people aren't going to wear their masks, you should definitely wear 2.
-
Something to sing while you wait in line for your vaccine:
-
Lulz, nice. I get my first dose tomorrow, so that actually will be a good time to listen to it. No idea how long the line will be, tho. I thought I was gonna have to wait much longer for it, but with the push to vaccinate teachers and educators around the country and my job falling under education, I lucked out.
My dad also got his first dose yesterday, and my mom was vaccinated back in January, so that's been a relief. As of now, my younger sister is the only member of our immediate family still waiting for an appointment. I imagine she'll have to wait a while.

15.899 dead in 10 days, ouch the Idles of March came biting.
-
Ouch. That does hurt.
It's sad because if you think about it in a Darwinian way, this is one of Nature's ways of creating space for more life (see: the Black Plague). But damn if it doesn't suck out your soul and fill you with rage when seeing your leaders fuck up the handling of it.
-

That's argument is not completely true, an ecosystem does not react in the same way a body reacts to an infection or a virus. Claim so is eco-fascism - humanity is blight to nature and there's nothing else we can do to prevent it - which is both preposterous and Malthusian.
Disease cross contamination is a rare phenomena, bats and wild monkeys are natural reservoirs of virus but rarely those virus evolves to do the species jump.
Black Plague is a mix of change happened in a moment when there started to exist a shift from rural to urban lifestyle, lack of sewer systems, increasingly poor hygiene standards - by ours and roman times - and lack of adequate medical knowledge.
Just like the 1918 H1N1 was result of a world ending a World War that left millions malnourished and half of continental Europe with out proper hygiene conditions.
Have a similar thing happening now is just the perfect mix of negligence, lack of skill and recklessness from the political class, their bosses the big corporations and the general idiotic population.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

But damn if it doesn't suck out your soul and fill you with rage when seeing your leaders fuck up the handling of it.Sure does, specially with the budget for federal covid ICU's cut short 70% from the first peak to now, and the Minister of Health saying today there's no colapse in the public health system. Just like there's no corruption in the gov't or no war in Ba Sing Se.

Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar
Look at what they've done to me
Everyday, ever night, all the time (Liar)

Yey going into the fourth Health Minister in a pandemic, must be some kind of record.
-
The pro science doctor candidate to asume the Health Ministry was harassed into refused the job, not only because she doesn't align with the tactics the gov't want - cloroquine and no lockdowns - but also because the bolsominions tried to invade her hotel room three times yesterday and started a slander campaign against her on twitter.
Fear not US, by the end of 2022 we will hold your spot as the country with most deaths.
-
New minister anyone taking polls on how long he will stay in charge?

The AstraZeneca vaccine is getting "suspended" throughout Europe
-
Which is ridiculous and only reduces the trust in the vaccines even more. People here already didn't show up to their vaccination appointments because they want the better Moderna or Biontech instead of the AstraZeneca one. Now you can pretty much throw them all away
