5th Emperor Luffy casually hurting other emperors
Chapter 922: Supreme Commander Kaido of the Animal Kingdom Pirates

@$abZ:
Wonder if that shot by Luffy will at least hurt Kaido a little. At this stage Luffy is in between Yonko 1st Commander - Yonko level of strength and he is officially the fifth "Emperor". Then again Kaido did face plant off a fucking Sky Island without a scratch. For all those that were thinking what was behind the logic of Kaido appearing out of nowhere in dragon form, there is no logic for a drunk man lol though of course the real reason is he's after Luffy and Law. Surely some big name player will arrive shortly to break this fight up because the way it's looking Kaido is about to smoke Luffy. Either that or another one of Oda's hilarious twists, he loves trolling us.
More like he is between 1st Commander - Admiral strength
-
I made this on the fly after the recent chapter came out. Now I wanna know the real truth.
HOW DID SHANKS MANAGE TO BEAT KAIDO IN HIS DRAGON FORM!?!?!?
Also, this chapter is amazing with how things are going in the hands of faith.
he didn't beat him.
It was described back then as a skirmish. It wasn't a large scale battle or anything. At most they may have traded some blows like Shanks/WB did and he backed off
-
Rockstar was the one who got left behind to hold back Kaido.
Why do you think we didn't seen him ever since his intro?

I think he was present in the wedding cover story.
Edit: yep, chapter 838 Bropper, behind Shanks.
-
That was almost 500 chapters ago, lol?
-
Got the chapter number wrong! It was during Big Mom's arc.

Thanks, but for the life of me, I still can't remember which chapter BM and Luffy clashed.
The whole Totland escape is a major blur without reading the story again in the actual volumes…

Its the same chapter the tamatebako explodes. 871

What's this about villains not getting enough characterization? Doflamingo, Big Mom, and Katakuri have been some of OP's most well-rounded main antagonists to date. We found out what makes them tick and had very fleshed out backstories for them (well, maybe not Katakuri - but it was still the baseline for a complex portrayal). Saying otherwise is just plain ignorant. And I'm expecting that Kaido will be just as fleshed out. If seven defeats and the foundation of his suicidal tendencies isn't enough to round him out, Oda will have done an absolutely terrible job. But he won't. For now, just relax.
-
Doflamingo and Katakuri, for sure. But Big Mom? Most of her screentime was her unconsciously screaming wedding cake. In my opinion she was such a one dimension and unmemorable character that I'm hoping that Kaidou doesn't go down the same path with this immortal drunkard quirk of his.
Even Lucci felt more fleshed out than Big Mom and half his character motivation was getting his job done, the other half was just his sadism.
-
Lucci is more fleshed out than Big Mom? Unmemorable and one dimensional? These are certainly opinions.

And very bad ones, at that. Good lord.
-

Whoa now, Lucci was hardly unmemorable. He's the biggest sociopath in One Piece. Sometimes simple is better.
EDIT: Oh I didn't even read the post above yours, that was about Big Mom lol. She's well rounded in every way something can be well rounded.

Well, it's indeed just an opinion and i too must admit that i had the same feeling where in about 40+ chapters all the panels with BM were her angry face screamin "eddding … akeee." But then there were some great panels when she reaches SH's ship. And only the fact that we still don't know how her powers work and what she is capable of when concious and fighting seriously is quite the opposite of beign one dimension and unmemorable character in my opinion.
Even Brook asked to see her panties, beign the first time anybody asked BM something like that.
-
Uh, did you guys miss the part where we had a flashback showing how Big Mom grew up and became like that? And the whole way Totto Land is built to be a dystopian land of diversity where people pay with their souls (or body parts)? Building a character can sometimes be done via external elements, not just by the character's actions themselves. The original point was not the characters being memorable, for that we have Katakuri, who was simple but effectively great. It's about them being 3 dimensional. And Big Mom certainly was. Unlike Crocodile, Lucci, Enel, Kuro, or most preivous villains. Even Hody has more depth than those older villains, despite sucking at his job.
-

She's the only one of the 4 Emperor's we've seen to date that has had a proper flashback detailing her origins….
Nothing 1 dimensional about her at all. -
Does Kaido just suck at coming up with a title for himself? I've seen translations call him Viceroy, and Governor-General. His epithet 'King of Beasts' or '100 Beasts' doesn't denote an actual rank or anything but they sure sound better than those other two. Hell, Dragon Emperor would be damn perfect, both giving his Yonkou title a nod, but also another one that seems to tower over any of the other Yonkou. Although who knows, as Shanks' ship had a dragon as its figurehead…
Kaido being this much of a lush makes me wonder about Vasco Shot. Is Oda going to use two habitual drinkers in positions of high rivalry to the Straw Hats? Curious.
So Kaido can spit Kamehameha blasts from his mouth. And Neptune can shoot them from his hands as long as he has enough water surrounding them. Feels like only Kizaru's lasers and Enel's lightning blasts have that kind of feel to them (since Pacifista and Franky's Radical Beam are derived from Kizaru's powers, I'm not counting them). I guess that's a good thing keeping it down to a handful of characters so it doesn't devolve into the shallowness of Dragonball Z.
I wonder if Kaido would be so generous to Shutenmaru if he was sober. I mean, I'd think it would be a good move to add someone with that kind of power to his army but it's hard to tell exactly how far his vindictive revenge meter goes to the point where he'd rather go for short-term gratification than think of political long-term gains. Of course, then you have to measure it both while drunk and while sober, so that doubles the amount of work.
Now I'm wondering if Moria is some kind of hero in Wano legends from the last time he went up against Kaido. Surely anyone who stood up to the brute is a good guy in the eyes of the people there, even if he's a jerk-face in every other aspect of his life. I do hope he shows up soon so Absalom and Carrot can become a super-spy reporting duo and my theory about Uber Nightmare Luffy can become plausible.

Nothing 1 dimensional about her at all.We have random sploches of Whitebeard's life, more character defining than the like from Shanks and Blackbeard, but we have almost all the big beats of Big Mom's life.
-
well, I was expecting two hundred chapters for this arc to end. But Oda got bored and decided to get it done in one panel. Seems like he has become the new Togashi
-
It looked like Oda wants to end dressrosa fast the first time luffy got to doflamingo… but then.
-
yeah lol, Oda never knows what to do with the main characters so he sends them running, sleeping or jailed somewhere while all the subplots culminate to reach their climax
-
I couldn't tell, does it look to anyone else like Luffy's Elephant Gun actually hurt Kaido or does it just look like someone who's scratching their pet dog's head too hard and it makes the skin stretch over their eyes all funny-looking? I know Luffy used the same move on a ((completely prepared for it and using Haki to block it)) Big Mom, but this is a drunk and not expecting it Kaido who isn't using Haki, so…I dunno. It would just be weird if it did hurt him at all given the reputation of Yonkou who are supposed to be the strongest ever.
-
Considering how many left real wounds on WB in the war, even fodders, it's ok if luffy hurt him with his second best gear. The question is how much can kaidou take, if anything close to WB before he got defeated.
-

I guess, and since it was before Haki was a really big thing in the series, I guess we can chalk it up to WB not using it for whatever reason to defend himself (or maybe in his advanced age and state of health, he couldn't use it anymore). Luffy also did hit dragon-man in the head, and since Kaido's drunk already, that's probably got to make him even more out of it, so maybe that was a good move that'll put Kaido in the mood for a nap.

VIZ is going with "Supreme Commander", which I think is much better.

Big Mom was not screaming for "most of her screen time," that's a huge exaggeration. She's a fairly complex character as far as One Piece complexity goes. She was abandoned as a child and raised by people who used her all of her life. Even as an old woman, her children continue to subtly manipulate and leech off of her power. All of her cruelty she learned exclusively from others. And it stunted her mentality growing up. Instead of being helped or guided, this was encouraged or used like a weapon. She comes off as simple but was also the person who orchestrated the Vinsmoke wedding and governs over an empire/dominion. She wants to act like a child and have everyone get along and be happy but will slaughter and destroy to get it done. She fucked like a rabbit to make her own family as big as possible because as a little girl she was lonely and didn't have one (and/or ate them). She is, by far, one of the more interesting and fleshed out OP villains whether you like it or not.
You are also being fined $150 for saying Rob Lucci is more fleshed out than anyone. Learn from this and never do it again.
-
She also kind of unconsciously cannibalized some children and an elderly woman and somehow gained her Devil Fruit powers?
-

On one hand, you're right. On the other, they call the crew the "Animal Kingdom Pirates", which is, um, kinda different.
-
Animal Kingdom is a little more politically correct, though.
Unless you have a problem with monarchies.

It makes me think of one of the big containers of animal crackers you can get at a store.

Better than Sacha Baron Cohen's character from The Dictator, "Admiral General Aladeen". I guess it fits him to be using a military rank over a title of status, being the most uncivilized Yonkou in appearance who would care more about that than holding himself as a king or something (then again, maybe it's because he wanted to let Jack and the other Calamities take those titles and didn't think about his own until after). Although I guess Big Mom missed her opportunity to call herself Pirate Empress 'cause Boa Hankcock already took it. You'd think the timing would have worked in Big Mom's favor there, but whatevs. I can't wait to see how the big alliance forms against him and how they start ranking all the people in it, and what Luffy's title would be.
-
Okay, time for chapter comparisons. Luckily, pretty few significant differences this week.
- Chapter name: "Supreme Commander Kaido of the Animal Kingdom Pirates".
- When Law is starting into his analysis of why Kaido just wants him and Luffy, he says "But that's just it!" in Mangastream, but "But that's all that happened!" in Jaimini's Box and VIZ. He also calls Doflamingo the "buyer" in the scanlations, but Kaido's "trading partner" in the official translation.
- In MS, Hawkins inexplicably says to Jack "I lied to get you to stop your rampage." In JB and VIZ, it has the correct pronoun usage to indicate that he lied to Kaido to stop his rampage. Also, MS completely misses the translation with Kaido's attack, calling it "Bolo Bless" (apparently not catching that that was definitely supposed to be "breath" for that second word). It's called "Heat Breath"/"Blast Breath" by JB and VIZ.
- In MS, Hawkins comments that it only took a moment for Kaido's drunkeness to wear off. In JB, he says "It wasn't even close to enough to get him sober." The VIZ translation agrees with JB, with him saying "Not enough time for that to have cleared his mind of the stupor", though Jack's words in reply are "Normal rules don't apply to him" (whereas in the scanlations, he just said that Kaido was insane/crazy).
-
Supreme Commander sounds perfect, but Animal Kingdom Pirates? Lol! Beast Pirates or nah.
-
King just has to be lion zoan now.
-
Please, no more lions… :ninja:
Weirdly enough, we already have so many as it is, that a Lion Zoan would just be incredibly lame now. Especially with two of them being Lion minks. And ya can't really top a Lion that has access to Sulong.
Although honestly, unless Oda gets really creative here, I'll be salty if King or Queen aren't Ancient/Mythical Zoan users.
-
Yeah, it's hard to see a lion zoan being anything spectacular after a series of lions lately. And especially that recent crotch-lion.
But there are various mythical lion beasts he could introduce, I suppose. And if we're ever going to see a lion zoan… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

-
Wild theory here but…
With how oda had so many lion creatures in 900 chapters( pekoms, Holdem, minks, lion of Buggy the clown) yet he avoided giving one of them the actual lion zoan, makes me think he is saving the real lion zoan for someone special, like next nakama maybe?
And before you say '' but lion would be too much like chopper, so no way!'' ( Pica's voice) it's not that only normal humans can eat the lion zoan. It could be that someone like idk, Big News Morgan race eats the lion zoan, or fishman eats it or object ( like the sword of spandam or dog gun of mr 4) eats it. And have some wierd combination like the horse bird from skypea or pekoms. Or maybe the bronze statue luffy wants in his crew will eat the lion zoan and become alive.
About King. Maybe he is lion mink traitor, and he has dinosaur DF, for the lion dinosaur sulong combo.
-
I think if any of prominent Beast Pirates (that's right, suck it Animal Kingdom) were a rogue mink, we'd have a freshadowing of a "big brother insert mink name who left on a solo adventure and never returned" character by now.
-
There could very well be a Mink in Kaidou's army ( hence the whole story of the mink traitor that lead Jack to Zou). There is a mink in LAw's crew, a mink in Revo's army and a random wolf mink in Totland (the one who recognized Pedro) that nobody from Zou mentioned or talk about.
Also, remember Sicilian is a Lion Mink and is currently in Wano with Dog-boss. I can see him being in cahoots with Kaidou, it's not that far fetched.
-
Sicilian was one of the people who fell victim to the gas and was crucified, so it's hard to see him being the traitor.
Actually all of the revelant Minks have solid enough reasoning where it's hard to see any of them being the traitor.

There's also Hawkins' cat.
Nobody needed to mention them because they aren't prominent characters, not yet anyway. If there was a mini-boss mink in Kaido's crew, you bet your ass there would have been a foreshadowing. Oda wouldn't just put a mink character there just for kicks. There would have been a back story, and an emotional weight tying them with one or more of good guy minks. Like an estranged family member, or a villainous castaway.
-
I want King to be a SilverBack gorilla, only real king of the jungle.

Why does Oda need to always keep the same pattern for introducing villans. He could be Bepo's father, a Grizzly bear. Probably minks are too ashamed to mention him giving that he betrayed them at some point or something. He probably was a former retainer of Oden that stayed behind when Oden was killed and joined Kaido and the other minks probably think he is dead already.

Not saying that he needs to, but he probably would have.
He's better than that, in short. Can't just introduce a villain one day and have Neko, Carrot and Pekoms suddenly saying "Omg, that's somesuch who left Zou ages ago" then force feeding us emotional relevance of that encounter and inevitable future fight. There is always some sort of a buildup with Oda in situations like that.
-
If there is a mythical Lion user I'd bet it'll be something like a Manticore.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manticore
I just figured, way back when I first started reading OP, that Ritchie from Buggy's crew would eat a Scorpion DF and become a Lion-Scorpion hybrid to resemble a Manticore.

I get your point but by the reasoning, there won't be any other Mink character of seemingly importance from now on since Oda hasn't foreshadowed anything. Anyway, i really hope the other Calamities are drawn in the same manner as Jack and not as Holdem.
