Wisconsin has had a mild winter … until now. This artic blast has brought below temps in with a vengeance. Currently its -21 C but with wind chill it feels -29 C. I was expecting this and went to load up on food yesterday. I plan on staying inside for the next couple of days.
Anyone else up in the NE and in the area affect by this artic blast, hope you all stay warm.

-A mining dam collapsed in southeastern Brazil sending a torrent of debris downstream.
-Seven bodies had been recovered by late Friday.
-About 200 people are still missing in the aftermath of the collapse.

In a few days we'll come back to nights in the single digits, but during the day it's nothing insanely frigid. Just freaking cold.

I just looked at weather.com, next couple of days will be in the negatives. but worse will be Wed. morning. Its predicted to reach -25 F without the wind chill! With the wind chill it's predicted to reach -50 F! That's -31 C actual and -46 C wind chill! If that actually comes true, it will be the coldest I have ever experienced…. that 110 F heat is starting to look inviting … I never thought I would say that!

I wouldn't mind the sheer cold if it was actually snowing, because hey I'd get some days off work from that.
But jesus mary and joseph it's abominable to be this cold with the sun out and not a cloud in the sky. Lows of 4F tomorrow.
A couple days of frigid cold, then back to the usual. A couple inches of snow/rain, but it's all normal. So no, in this part of NE we're doing the usual. I can't say the same for Maine or northern Vermont/New Hampshire.

The bitter cold is the result of a split in the polar vortex that allowed temperatures to drop much farther south than normal. That meant temperatures in parts of the Midwest were lower Wednesday than in Antarctica, where the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station hit negative 25 degrees (negative 31.7 Celsius) — balmy compared to Fargo, North Dakota's negative 31 degrees (negative 35 Celsius) and Minneapolis' negative 27 degrees (negative 32 Celsius), according to the National Weather Service.
Snowplows were idled overnight because of the cold in southeastern Minnesota, where temperatures dropped to negative 29 degrees (negative 34 Celsius). In Chicago, temperatures were still dropping after plunging early Wednesday to minus 19 degrees (negative 28 Celsius), breaking the day's previous record low set in 1966 — and colder than the weather in Barrow, Alaska, the most northern town in the U.S.
And that doesn't include wind chill, which in northern Illinois made the air feel as cold as negative 57 degrees (negative 49.4 Celsius). The National Weather Service warned that a wind chill of minus 25 (negative 32 Celsius) can freeze skin within 15 minutes.
