Yeah we making 11 volumes, and was kinda teased that that would be some exhibition on the Chainsaw panel at Jump feast. Makes sense for a studio to pick for an anime.

It could be also jump being dragged kicking and screaming into 20th century practices (yep, not 21th) and they are letting the author (s?) rest for a while.

Could also be moving to JUMP Ultra like JoJo did. Maybe there was some stuff the author wanted to do that was pushing the boundaries of Shonen Jump a bit too much.

Oh boy, you're sooo right. I had not considered that angle, but in retrospect the plot derailed quite a bit compared to when Gun was the biggest threat out there and all that mattered was getting it under a leash.

This was a really beautiful finale. Amazing part 1.

Great finale ! I love how Fuji manages to disrupt even the traditional Food Shot Panels
. They're absolutely beautiful and done by the book, but knowing this is fresh Makima meat does give them a remarkably twisted flavor 
Will be eagerly waiting for season 2 -
For all the manipulative things Makima did to Denji and the others; it is a nice touch to see that that moment she cried during the movie date was genuine. It showed two people hugging during a scene that was not supposed to be emotional yet both Denji and her reacted the same way. It shows that they both wanted the same thing even if they had a very different lot in life.
The charm of shorter series like this, is how you can just easily reread them and notice new things. Epic long series like One Piece are cool too but most people are never going through over a 100+ volumes again. Fujimoto is a movie fan and it shows when he just puts so many little things like that moment i mentioned during the date and anyone can easily just go back and look for them. For as crazy people think his writing is; it is clearly all planned out from the beginning and that is what makes it special.

Really? Astethically, the bunch of folks with weird organ masks and gums showing, those do look a little like the devils. There is the suits as well.

i mean you must agree that your post is quite generic? suits and maks, basically. and while both play with demon imagry, they do very distinct jobs on how to play that.

I thing the constant tonal shifts from gore to comedy to tragedy to action is a good indicator too. The pace might be a little different since Dorohedoro was mensal, but we still had chapters were we jumped trough one to the other.
