      @Blissed:

It's possible, but it seems more likely that it'll just be parallel to the 3 Sweet Commanders. When a Headliner can be as strong as a Supernova, there isn't really any reason to have more than 3 All-Stars. It just needlessly lessens the role somewhat IMO when you already have a position that has characters with wildly varying amounts of strength.

Yeah, but what about the Daifuku, Oven, Perospero and the likes on the Beast Pirates? The Big Mom Pirates had a lot of monsters who were not among the Sweet Commanders but clearly the Headliners are not going to be around that level (we already saw Holdem, the headliner immediately below Jack, and…).
A headliner being as strong as a supernova at this point apparently seems to be exclusive to the headliners who are a supernova, as every other headliner we saw so far is leagues below that level - and the supernovae are not real real real Beast Pirates, they are just a temporary addition, Kaido's crew can't seriously have just him and the 3 Calamities as threats.

Even if we have more All-Stars, we'll still have the 3 Calamities to be a parallel to the 3 Sweet Commanders (and even the SC were actually 4 until a while ago). Actually, we always thought of the Calamities as being the Sweet Commanders equal, the term All-Stars only appeared a few weeks ago.

Why is that clear already? The arc's just getting started. You bring up Oven and Daifuku, but we didn't even know they existed until Ch. 861. (And Katakuri in Ch. 860.) And Perospero wasn't confirmed as a "monster" until that chapter as well.

It makes far more sense for there to be stronger Headliners lurking about than for there to be more than 3 current All-Stars IMO. The only thing I would say is apparent so far is that perhaps SMILE users aren't worth taking seriously. (Outside of maybe Sheepshead for the weaker SHs, if he's still alive anyways) If the first decent Headliner is an actual Zoan user, I wouldn't be surprised tbh. In the end, it's not like it truly matters which of us is right here I suppose, as we'd get stronger crew members regardless. But I would certainly find it odd if there were more than 3 All-Stars.

And yes, the Calamities are the Sweet Commanders' equal. It doesn't really matter that there used to be 4 of them; when we're introduced to them, there is currently only three of them. As for the All-Star rank, we were not introduced to it recently in Wano. We knew about it since Zou, though it was the synonymous title of "Lead Performer". It's just that everyone preferred to refer to them as Calamities I guess.

Sanji, Luffy, Zoro and Kid are also quite damn strong to find themselves stuck with mere Headliners.

So if seastone effect = sea effect basically now Luffy can swim?

I HATE this developement. Unbelievable nerf to seastone, maybe needed to justify why Kaidou is not really vulnerable to it, but very cheap.

The effect of water/seastone was always correspondent to the amount of it that the AnM user is exposed to. In fact, you'll see people like Aokiji and Oven using the powers with their hands in the water.

Seastone handcuffs are not different. They nerf the character a lot, but since it's only their wrists that are exposed, they can still move around freely and, in the case of Luffy, he still has plenty of strenght to carry stone blocks around.

Robin was moving around in Eneis Lobby with no real difficulty. This is nothing new.

I quite enjoyed seeing the interaction between kid and Luffy because I felt like it was extremely long overdue so it was a nice thing to finally have though I felt like it didn't do much with it yet. Of course it was nice to see Caribou again. The rest of the chapter just felt like set up for now so it was a fairly standard chapter but nothing too special.

                    @S.C.:

There are more examples, like when Ace was being transferred to Marineford.

But when it comes to Luffy this is definitely new. Just look at those two scenes, from the still very recent Dressrosa arc:

                    !
! Here he collapses on touch….
                    !
! ….and later he claims he wouldn't be able to focus on unlocking Law's cuffs if the sea stone part touches his hand

And it made sense, because Luffy's devil fruit is a special kind that permanently alters his body - at all times. He can't decide to be Not Rubber, so deactivating his fruit deactivates his entire body.

So this is either a blunder/retcon or something that's soon to be addressed. Maybe the cuffs are special, with less amounts of Seastone to allow for hard labor in the mines. Or Luffy got used to the cuffs and is currently undergoing an unintentional training, similiar to Goku with weight cloths (read that one elsewhere, not a bad theory).

First, I think you are getting one thing wrong here. The effect of water and seastone is not to deactivate the DF ability, but it rather sucks the inner strenght of the DF user… so the guy becomes a hammer and, by consequence (not cause), he won't use his DF ability.

Since we've been explained before that the amount of water matters to weaken DF users, the principle should be the same when it comes to Kairouseki. If the character is only mildly exposed to seastone, he can still walk around and even use some of his powers (like Aokiji and Oven did before).

The pages you mentioned are interesting to discuss. The first one with Luffy touching the seastone cage is, IMO, only an exageration to visually show to the readers that Kairouseki is troublesome, otherwise the reader wouldn't have a visual clue in that particular scene. There's also a comical effect in how Luffy is drawn all mushy.

The second example (with the keys) is a little more problematic indeed. It smells like a mistake. Afterall, let's not forget that Inazuma used his scizor hands to unlock seastone handcuffs in Impel Down.

                        @One:

And I dislike that seastones doesn't make devil fruit users weak anymore.
And that Kidd seems to be a buddy now. Kidd was introduced as exaggerating violent and brutal. That's definitely not Luffys friend type.

So this chapter basically changed the canon.

Interesting development to me, the seastone thing. As for the Kidd subject, my gut reaction too, but in truth, many of his friends have cruel and bloody pasts. Another Supernova, Bart, For example. 🙂

Favorite thing aside from One Piece is movies! Updated favorite films: The Passion of Joan of Arc / Alien / It's a Wonderful Life / Casablanca / One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest / The Apartment / Nights of Cabiria / Dr. Strangelove / All About Eve / Amadeus / Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

                          General understanding:

                          Haki:

                          • You may ignore the effects of certain fruit powers (mostly the hax attacks against you)
                          • You can ignore the defense of certain devil fruits (most notably Logia)

                          Sea Water:

                          • Turns you into a hammer, total paralysis included if submerged past a certain point. I don't know if the power is being sucked out of the user or if the paralysis simply disables them so hard that they can't even blink/activate their power, but the effect is the same: power disabled. Still dormant, but disabled.

                          Sea Stone:

                          • Weapons let you do the same thing (offensively) as coa haki + they disable df powers on touch (sea stone nets)
                          • Cuffs disable fruit powers. They simply have to, else people like Ace could easily free themselves.

                          Darkness Fruit:

                          • Touching another DF user robs them of their power for as long as you keep physical contact. Victims are treated as if they never had a power to begin with, nothing is disabled or deactivated. No one knows what happens when Blackbeard touches Brook….(?).

Afterall, let's not forget that Inazuma used his scizor hands to unlock seastone handcuffs in Impel Down.

Good point, this is weird. I would understand Akainu launching a magma fist at a pair of seastone cuffs (melting the cuffs), but the scissors were part of Ina's body, like you say.

Whatever it is, I would like Oda to address this. At least in an SBS.

My first thought for Kamazou was that he's Killer unmasked given the choice of weapon and the fact he's one of the Kid-Hawkins-Apoo alliance not accounted for post-Kaido suicide attempt.

                            I love it. Great conjecture!

I missed however you came to this conclusion, but Luffy will never be able to swim unless Oda retcons that, which he's not going to do. Devil Fruits have to have a drawback (in the OPverse), that is becoming a hammer.

Luffy and Kid are just that strong. How would Caribou "mind" seastone when he's not trying to use his Devil Fruit powers, and people like Robin back in EL didn't mind it either (besides it locking your DF)?

                                Croc or Enel would never.

Wanna see the "ancient civilization destroyed" thing done really well? FFXIV did a great take on it. The bar's high for One Piece to beat.

Luffy on dressrosa was falling only by touching seastone bars, not to mention the two times smoker touched him with his little jute tip and defeated him( if it was not for dragon or Boa to save him).

                                    @uniaka:

Luffy on dressrosa was falling only by touching seastone bars, not to mention the two times smoker touched him with his little jute tip and defeated him( if it was not for dragon or Boa to save him).

That point is addressed in this very chapter that it's abnormal for them to be doing this as they're doing it. The point is, seastone cuffs have never outright immobilized a person, like the jutte or seastone bars.

                                    !

                                    Croc or Enel would never.

Wanna see the "ancient civilization destroyed" thing done really well? FFXIV did a great take on it. The bar's high for One Piece to beat.

there could be a lot of explanations for this…
the handcuffs could be made of a "lesser quality" seastone, because after all the slaves are expected to work, or they could be made only partially with seastone for the same reason.
We have also seen that powerful guys are completely chained in impel down

                                      !

                                      !
that would not be necessary io simple handcuffs could completely stop fruit users

I like Tekking's idea that your body gets used to the seastone. At the beginning it touches you it saps away your powers and strength so your body is in shock but after a few minutes you get used to it.
And they only have a small amount of it around their wrists. Maybe that plays a part.

As much as I'm fine with Luffy getting stronger by training with seastone, it does seem rather inconsistent with the bars in Dressrosa making him faint so recently within the story. People saying that the cuffs are just different seems far-fetched - I mean, on the one hand maybe in the land that seastone comes from they can make it weak enough to only impede fruit users a little bit, but more than anything it seems that they'd be extra powerful, if anything.

That said, I'm not that concerned about it. This chapter was good, in my book!

Can we just agree that seastone stops DF power activation and weakens the user, just like the sea does? It's as simple as that. Robin, Ace, Marco have all been able to walk around with seastone cuffs. Though carrying rocks like this is a bit more difficult than just walking or running. The effect is not inconsistent, the degree of incapacitation of Luffy specifically is what is inconsistent throughout the series. But I don't get how people arrive at the conclusion that this is a major retcon. It just… isn't.

I like the idea that this is like Goku training with the weights on his arms and legs.

My theory is Queen will arrive at the prison mine next chapter and Act 2 of wano will be a prison break with raizou being shown next chapter and zoro casually arriving at the front of the prison mine we could also see killer lurking somewhere since he is very much not part of kaidou's men.

Also since we have seen Dobon im pretty sure there would be another headliner nearby specifically a female headliner since we always been shown with a pair of headliners, sheepshead and ginrummy(pretty sure she was a headliner since she has a name and gifters just go with animal-man naming) holdem and speed so i think another headliner would be here.

Also guessing that Queen will have an insect DF and have the same ability as Karasu maybe it is a diff form of awakening and Queen can seperate his/her body into that specific insect like locust/mosquito of something and king will have either a fire salamander df or the basic sara sara no mi and will have fire attributes since salamanders are always associated with fire although we already have the fire and salamander theme with the smiley. King could also have the nekomata df of mythical status.

Found a description of nekomata at yokai.com here it is:

BEHAVIOR: While not all bakeneko are malicious or violent towards their masters, all nekomata certainly are. They look upon humans with contempt, and are often responsible for summoning fireballs that start great conflagrations, killing many people. They frequently control corpses with their necromantic powers like puppet-masters, and they use their powerful influence to blackmail or enslave humans into doing their bidding.

SOoo… Does that mean Kid is ALSO on 1st Yonko Commander level, or does that mean Luffy actually ISN’T there yet? I’m leaning towards the latter tbh, because both Cracker and Katakuri were hit by multiple nerfs during their fights. But also because there is currently only ONE 1st Yonko Commander on Beast Pirates side, there is simply not enough powerhouse enemies for the SH Alliance to fight.

Oda intends for Nami to keep zeus until the next encounter with BM and after that it will probably become loyal only to her. If it was me, i would've liked Robin to get ninja training and also Usopp … their methods require to be able to go around unnoticed, especially Usopp if he tends to be a good marksmenn.

Otherwise, i think Nami should enforce her weather stick with seastone if possible as she is totally hopeless against any DF user right now. If by the final battle she is still given fodder matchups, she will eventually battle Doc Q's horse or something.

I guess this chapter is trying to tell us Luffy and Kid are supposedly on the same level (and above the rest of the supernovas)? SOoo… Does that mean Kid is ALSO on 1st Yonko Commander level, or does that mean Luffy actually ISN’T there yet? I’m leaning towards the latter tbh, because both Cracker and Katakuri were hit by multiple nerfs during their fights. But also because there is currently only ONE 1st Yonko Commander on Beast Pirates side, there is simply not enough powerhouse enemies for the SH Alliance to fight.

Luffy and Kidd are not on the same level if this is a demonstration of both of them at their peak without their DF abilities. Kidd, so far as we know, has no access to things like G2, G3 or G4. His DF is also (presumably) contingent on having external objects to assist him so without that, he can't even fight at his fullest while Luffy requires no external matter to be able to power himself up to his fullest. Even then, at best he can form a mimic of G3 by making a giant metal hand, but we have no way of knowing if his Magneto power matches up to any of Luffy's gears. Regardless, unless they're fighting in some kind of scrapyard, Kidd will be at a disadvantage. The only way things change is if Kidd's DF is awakened, and now that I think about it, that would be pretty cool, and probably the springboard to Luffy awakening his DF. It's too early to speculate about it since even if Kidd's was awakened, there's no way he'd have been able to take out Kaido even with the assistance of Hawkins and Apoo after he crashed in front of them.

That's why I also included the potential of him being awakened. If Katakuri is any indicator of how much power can be unlocked from that, Kidd might be able to turn his own skin into metal or just create it out of thin air or transmute other objects into it. Also neither of them appear to be using Haki so I'll allow for the possibility of Kidd having stronger Armament Haki than Luffy's, but I wouldn't bet on it. There's also something to be said about how Kidd would have to wield his ability, given that he's not only got to be moving and fighting with his own body but also concentrating on controlling the remote objects he wields, so unless he's gotten really good at that type of multitasking, he'll leave either himself vulnerable or be less effective wielding his ability. Luffy only has to worry about himself, at least til he gets awakened and can make other things gain his rubbery properties.

Did anyone else see Caribou (or a dead ringer for him) in one of the prison panels? I wonder why he's there if he's got such juicy information in him, has he decided not to bargain it for his freedom or a position of power? I wonder who he's holding out for giving it to if not freaking Kaido. Blackbeard maybe? Or has he turned over a new leaf entirely and he's not going to give any evil people Shirahoshi's secret? Wouldn't that be a suprise.

It's true indeed that before wano he was affected heavily by seastone, but you have to acknowledge this is the first time luffy is having seastone handcuffs and a kimono. The new element here is the kimono, so you are now witnessing the mighty power of kimono.

Sea-stone is said to drain the strength from the user yet Kidd and Luffy is able to carry on like its just a little nuance, I believe this is due to their determination/spirit which is the basis of Haki see where i am getting at. Whenever they escape their spirit/haki will be much stronger, this will improve their observation, king haki and armament something they will definitely need to defeat Kaido

That's because Luffy's power isn't activated. His body has the properties of rubber at all times. Only when BB touches him is his body back to being a normal person's body. Otherwise, he's rubber. But, for example, Marco wouldn't be able to turn into a phoenix underwater, even if he had enough strength left to move around a bit, like Luffy and Kid have lots of in this chapter. 😆

That's why I also included the potential of him being awakened. If Katakuri is any indicator of how much power can be unlocked from that, Kidd might be able to turn his own skin into metal or just create it out of thin air or transmute other objects into it.

I think our conceptions of Kidd's Devil Fruit powers may be slightly different. I was always under the impression that his power was over Magnetism, rather than directly over Metal…

Obviously this could change once we get in-series clarification, but rather than "Metal-bending" (note: my knowledge of Avatar: The Last Airbender is nearly nonexistent, so take with grain of salt), I've been envisioning something similar to Misaka Mikoto out of the Index-verse, just from the opposite "direction" (magnetism manipulating electricity, as opposed to electricity manipulating magnetism).

I'll leave Kidd's possible Haki skills and whatever awakening would allow him to do until we've got more info...

Definitely spotted him. Somewhat expected, since we knew Drake was taking him to Kaidou, but I am curious how far Shirahoshi's secret has spread…

There are 3 known types of Smile users:

1 - those with two horns have fully bonded with their smile fruit, can fully control their fruit's animal and have it "spawn" from a body part of their choosing (so far, only arm was shown but i wouldn't be surprised if other limbs could do it too)
2 - those with only one horn have partially bonded with their smile fruit and supposedly can only partially control their fruit's "spawning": not sure on this one, but it makes sense it works this way
3 - those that bonded badly with the smile and have the animal permanently on, such as the hippo guy, the horse woman or the lion guy: obviously, some have worse "luck" than others and it seems hippo guy took the short straw …

                                                                                                    H T C - Hoje Tive Cá

Maybe it's simply a difference in awakening. The permanently fused ones may have relied on their abilities too much and the fruit overcame them, leaving them as permanent freaks. Maybe the same thing awaits Sheepshead down the line.
