Infinity war is in the 2,Money, many, zeros club.
I thought it would reach it easily but I failed to notice Deadpool lowering their income half way.Yeah, that was borderline mental releasing DP2 so close to IW's opening. You'd think BOTH companies would want to avoid competition from each other now that they've got their hands in each other's pockets.
Some people over here have been talking about it.

Well I used to be able to change thread titles easier than I can now so I made jokes all the time. But when I went from green to yellow my permissions mucked up so I can't change those as easily now. Otherwise I would have put in a different gag months ago.
-
Not sure I'm totally clear on terminology, but I think I partially understood that.
Still ultimately just hoping, however futilely, that the movies (or at least the conclusion of A4) will have the TV heroes featured even if only as briefly as the shot of the other X-Men in Deadpool 2.

SONY: Hey Marvel, do you have any cool characters that we can make live-action movies spinning-off from Spider-Man?
MARVEL: Well, we’ve got this really cool character called Miles Mor..
SONY (Interrupts): …VENOM!!
MARVEL: No, Miles Morales and also a really cool character called Spider-Gwen… she’s really popu...
SONY (Interrupts): MORBIUS!! VENOM!! … Good talk... Bye!
-
I honestly couldn't really see them making a live action Miles Morales let alone a Spider-Gwen spin-off as there's a little bit too much overlap between the powersets and backgrounds.
And when we already have them all running around in Marvel's Spider-Man though Gwen (for the moment) lost her powers along with everyone who got them because of the Jackal.
-
What is it with Sony and wanting to make movies out of Spiderman villains? They're villains.
And while it's not really a good place for a Spider-Gwen movie, I'd love to see a cartoon series made for her.
-
What is it with Sony and wanting to make movies out of Spiderman villains? They're villains.
They only have rights to Spiderman. Outside of maybe Black Cat, he doesn't have any recognizable characters that could carry a movie on their own that aren't villains.
They're trying to use what they have. That happens to be a bad idea, but its what they have.
-

At least when someone wants them to be.
-

A load of people would watch a 2 hours of only Thanos being Thanos and everyone cheering for him.
-
I get WHY they're doing this. They have the rights to Spider-man, his supporting cast, and his rogues gallery and they are trying to milk it for all it's worth… What I DON'T get is why they are doing these things now in this way...
Pretty much all of these characters are only popular due to their relation to Spider-Man... you take that away and these characters have nothing.
Nobody knows who Black Cat, Silve Sable, or Morbius are outside their status as Spider-Man supporting characters. Venom MAYBE, he's super popular after all, but he's also really bland IMO. At least the Eddie Brock version.
So who the hell are these movies even for?! The fans who actually know who they are will be irked by the lack of Spider-Man, and everyone else lacks the brand recognition that usually justifies adapting something in the first place...
So... Why the hell are they doing these movies NOW?! Why not wait until the new beloved MCU involved Spidey is more established and then bring them in via his movies first before trying to spin them off?
That way you make the hardcore fans among us happy AND you build familiarity with the general public before introducing them...
Ugh... The only way these crappy Spinoffs will ever interest me is if they make a Paste-Pot Pete one.
-
Rin kind of hit the nail on the head.
It's like they're cooling dinner and have ingredients that will all go great with a steak. Except they don't have permission to grill the steak so they're compensating by just throwing a shitload of mashed potatoes on the plate and hoping people think it's as good as the steak.
I'm very hungry right now.
But yeah, even with Venom there are certain ways they could have played it to make it more interesting than the Eddie Brock version we're getting. His origin with Venom too tied in to Peter. It really bothers me that it seems we're likely just skipping this aspect of their character. It's that mutual hate/Venom's desire for Peter that kept that version of Venom interesting and how he evolved.
For this solo movie, I would have loved to see an adaption of Flash Thompson's Venom story. Sony could have just had it be an "elseworld" kind of story, drop any sort of hinting at connection with the MCU and run with the idea of a Spider-man a few years older and into the game for a while. They could have focused on Flash in the military, losing his legs. While being distraught over his legs he could be talking about his regrets for being a bully as a teenager. Sony would have an easy platform to integrate Peter in their story without ever having to show him. The military would approach him and summarize Venom's origin and explain that they think the symbiote can work with Flash to give him legs and help the world.
We could have gotten an R-rated, military ops Venom focused on the reformed bully that has been featured in Spider-man films since the very first one. But nope, lets get Eddie Brock meeting Venom, no spidey, and likely no real emotional investment in either.

So, Review Embargo is up for Ant Man and the wasp.
It's currently sitting at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes with 64 Reviews and a critic's consensus of:
A lighter, brighter superhero movie powered by the effortless charisma of Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, Ant-Man and The Wasp offers a much-needed MCU palate cleanser.
Looking good! Definitely what I expected and wanted out of an Ant Man movie anyway.

Morbius is like the most random choice ever. I could have understood Doc Ock, Green Goblin, even Kraven…..but Morbius? How the hell is he supposed to carry a movie all by himself?:blink:The guys at Marvel Studios really are the only ones who know what they are doing, huh?

Unless it's the latter two Iron Man movies, Age Of Ultron, or the first two Thor movies not really.
-
Unless it's the latter two Iron Man movies, Age Of Ultron, or the first two Thor movies not really.
Iron Man 2 was absolutely them rushing forward without a plan, they've said as much, they really weren't expecting the first film to be a hit. It also suffered from doing the heavy lifting on setting up Avengers.
Iron Man 3 however, divisive twist aside, was pretty solid.
Thor 1 was fine for the setup and for how out there the concept was that they had to sell audiences. Thor 2… not so much. but they seem to have really figured out what to do with the character at this point and it seems like his actor at least is willing to do more.
Avengers 2.... had the parts of a good movie in there, but you can definitely see the studio fighting with the director on that one. The best parts, the party scene and the ranch, were Whedons. The less good stuff, like Thor's subplot and killing Quicksilver... was studio stuff. I'd be interested to see an earlier cut of the film, there was clearly some stuff changed at the end.
Regardless, however hit or miss those were, they were mostly off compared to the other Marvel films... they were all fine in their own right.
Except Thor 2. That was straight up forgettable.

Avengers 2 also did a really good job with Ultron. He was my favorite part of the movie.
-
Personally, I've always been kinda disappointed with how they portrayed Ultron. I went in expecting some really intimidating Darth Vader-like character. Instead we got Dark Tony.
-
I'm with Nobodyman. The early "I have no strings on me" trailers got me so hopeful that Ultron was going to be some kind of broken and disturbed monster. Instead, he was essentially a memelord with a chip on his shoulder.
-
Ultron feels like they wanted to imitate Loki when not having Loki. James Spader did a good job, but ultimately I've only watched Avengers 2 once, so…
-
I enjoyed Age of Ultron a lot. The real problem with that movie wasn't that it was bad per se, it just wasn't close to as good as the first one.

They just needed a longer runtime. Even an extra half hour, if utilized correctly, could have fixed a ton of the problems. Could have given us an opportunity to turn the twins' backstory into a 'show, don't tell' thing at the very least. Imagine the movie opening to that, THEN having the Avengers show up and the audience realizing just how much of an axe to grind the twins have with them, and how there was no chance in hell HYDRA had any control over them whatsoever.
-
Saw Ant Man and the Wasp today. I enjoyed it more than the first Ant Man. It was a nice palette cleanser after Infinity War for sure
-
just watched Ant man and the wasp, decent movie, very likely that I won't ever watch it again.
I'll lower my expectations for Cap Marvel. -
Just saw Ant-Man and Wasp
! Holy hell that post-credits scene was weak. Honestly Marvel, I know it's kind of expected of you now, but if you can't think of anything genuinely funny or revelatory than don't even bother. First time I think I would recommend not staying after the credits.
! Otherwise, fantastic funny movie and another great entry in the MCU canon. -
I saw Ant Man and Wasp yesterday.
! The fight scenes are really pretty cool. And with Ghost doing her phrasing and Scott and Hope shrinking and or growing up made some very nifty choreography.
! The 1st end credits scene. About half the theater went gasp "Oh no…." when nobody replied back and we saw the ash. I kinda expected someone to get ashed but I didn't think it'd be the whole family.
! The last post credits scene was pointless. -
Morbius is like the most random choice ever. I could have understood Doc Ock, Green Goblin, even Kraven…..but Morbius? How the hell is he supposed to carry a movie all by himself?:blink:The guys at Marvel Studios really are the only ones who know what they are doing, huh?
Well have you heard what they are doing after Morbius? Paste Pot Pete!
-
Another thought that occurred to me while watching Ant-Man and Wasp
! How crazy would it have been if this movie actually came out before Infinity War and they left in the scene of Wasp and the others being disintegrated and we were all left with the mystery of "Why did THAT happen?!"
! That's probably just a bit too daring for this franchise though. -
Nah, I think you need the context for that to work at all. That'd just be confusing.
-

Thanks Robby. I can always count on you to shoot down my ideas.
…Eh, you're right though.

Hmmm after giving a few days to think about Ant Man and the Wasp, it seems like they planted a handful of stuff to build off of:
! 1.Obvious the whole set up for Cassie Lang wanting to be a hero so…yup no brainer there. Heck, that line with her teaming up with her father was just flat out thrown at the audience.
2.Ant Man showing up most likely in Avengers 4 by being pulled out from the Quantum Realm (MOST likely by his daughter or something).
3.Leaving Ghost alive. Thunderbolts setup possibly for Avengers 4 or beyond? I mean it is great that they made her a fairly gray villain with plenty of room for character growth so I think there's potential here as well.Anything else I might be missing?
Guh…got to wait almost a full year to see what Captain Marvel has for us :(

Isn't it more like 2/3 of a year? If it follows the new 'normal' schedule, isn't it due out in February or something?
Edit: Okay, March. Close enough. But this year has just been blasting through, so it won't feel like quite as long.

Really liked it.
! Ghost was a more interesting villain than Darian Cross(?), and I liked that her phasing vs. Pym shrinking was more of a deadlock matchup, meaning, seemed close the whole time. Luis was awesome, wished T.I and Russianguy did more (although the truth serum scene was funny)
! Although I guess one small nitpick was that it felt like the FBI should had more of a chance - specifically the day when they sought out Foster (who surprisingly had more to offer the story than I had expected, I figured Ghost would ice him) - for them to break into Scott's home, see an ant playing drums, and bust him. Because if they were tipped off by campus security, that should've set off red flags to call in patrol cars for his home and am I thinking too hard about this? maybe. It's just that when Hope said a "lunch" time limit and they were in the graveyard by NIGHTtime, I dunno.
! Also I must've missed this pointless scene, because Hope, Janet, and Hank being Thanos'd seemed pretty important to me (was that not it?). Seemed kinda abrupt to have Scott trapped at THAT point, but getting him out is going to be hard. Especially if Foster and Ghost got Thanos'd too. I guess in Avengers 5, Cap will come up with the idea to seek him out. -
Also I must've missed this pointless scene,
There were two credit scenes. Did you stay until the very end?
-

I've been hearing mixed messages about the all the way at the end credits scene, and now I'm too intrigued not to check it out even if it means getting as pissed as I was seeing that lame Captain America message at the end of Spider-Man Homecoming.

I think the lurking dread that it might happen at any time made it more effective than if the latter sequence had occurred first.

Whoops, I've been bad at this recently.
-
Hey, the got Vic Mignogna in this.
-
That is fabulous and amazing. What production.

The search saw Marvel meet with over 70 potential directors. Marvel Studios’ Black Widow standalone movie has its director. Cate Shortland, the Australian director perhaps best known for the Nazi drama Lore, has signed on to direct Black Widow, Marvel’s action-adventure project that will star Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson’s Widow is reportedly set before the events of the first Avengers movie and sees the actress reprise the Russian spy-turned-super heroine. The movie will be Marvel’s second female-centric movie after Captain Marvel, which is due to open March 8, 2019.

I'm cracking up. Most threads I've seen that made this "Highly anticipated" announcement mostly had comments of "Who asked for this!?" Or "6 years too late." Or "Why? She's so boring."
Are they gonna give her that crappy long wig she used to wear?
This may be the movie to break my streak of seeing all the MCU stuff.
-
I hope she will have red hair
-
She better have red hair.
-
Given that this is a prequel I would pretty much think she'd have red hair.
The only question is how long will it be.
-
gah, I hope they don't end up giving Nick Fury a standalone movie.
Still think the worst parts of the MCU are the parts that touch on SHIELD.
-
I thought the worst parts were the after credit bits.
-
super hyped for the black widow movie!
-
Still think the worst parts of the MCU are the parts that touch on SHIELD.
I'm curious, why?
-
I'm curious, why?
Cause they are totally irrelevant to the movieverse. Still not as nonexistent to the plot as the netflix heroes though, lol.
