I thought the first film was rather generic, but I'm looking forward to the sequel. Brie Larson is a great actress and with good writing, she could become iconic in the role.

The directors and writers for Captain Marvel have been changed. The new writer is from WandaVision. She was the leading writer for episode 3 and 4.
-
Which is part of what is making me hope I will enjoy this one more!
-
I've been curious as to how this model of TV writers and directors to film works. There have been many TV creatives that have taken up films for the MCU, but this time they are coming directly from the MCU series.
-
Hey, still upset about Chadwick Boseman? How about we send Hawkeye to the ICU to make you feel better?

I was just about to post this. Hopefully he'll have a full and speedy recovery! Apparently he was trying to help his snowed in relatives and got run over by his own snow plow.
-
I swear the actors need bodyguards or EMTs following them aroud at this rate.

Jeremy posted an Instagram to show he's ok:

-
I hope that Ritter gets to do some fun work. The MCU has been cycling through various different characters a lot lately without really providing any indication of when a character will return so I'm hoping whatever work she does for Daredevil isn't the only work she does for the foreseeable future.
-
-
Heavens, that's intense.
-
So......maybe not a light-hearted heist movie this time.
-
If you pause you can see MODOK looking like straight out of the comics!
And yeah, I'll honestly be surprised if they DON'T kill Scott off in this go around to show Kang as a threat. Taking down the real "heart" of the post phase 1 Avengers who was one of the biggest(pun intended) keys to saving the universe from the last biggest bad certainly sets the stage for that.
-
Damn, this trailer really made it seem like Scott is going to die. I like Scott and I definitely don't want him to die. Will Ant-Man 3 and GotG 3 make me cry back to back??
-
Oh dammit, I hope not. If they have to, at least let Wasp live.
-
Rumor has it that Adam Driver is a frontrunner for Mr. Fantastic:

But hey, you never know. Nobody thought Heath Ledger would make a good Joker and look what he did.
-
Huh. Thought they would've just stuck with John Krasinski.
-
That's what I would prefer, but they might just call him a variant.
-
Stewart as Xavier, Atwell as Cap, Lashana as Capt. Marvel. Seem a bit obvious that it was fanservice that they wanted to get out of the way. Seems more likely that Xavier and Reed will be from the main Earth with picks decided on by their respective directors if not already decided.
-
I’m still upset we’re not getting the original Thunderbolts team from the comics, or at least Songbird
-
I wonder if the library will have it . . .

Jonathan Meyer's stylist said on tiktok that he was inspired by Dolfamingo for the following shoot:

That is definitely Doflamingo.

Why do people online seem to hate Brie Larson so much?

Why do people online seem to hate Brie Larson so much?
It's mostly cishet men, in my experience, and if a cishet guy is hating a woman on the internet it's likely because they're a Not Normal person.
My opinion—as a woman—is that getting into NFTs was stupid. I don't know what else she's done other than turn in some boring acting performances, though, so I just shrug and find something actually fun to do with my time.
-
She didn't quite live up to my expectations as Captain Marvel (Charlize Theron probably would have done better). But cest la vie.
-
@JulieYBM is not a cishet man but I do think its a combination of bad acting + overly wanting to be at the center of attention in interviews + a not-so-good role.
Captain Marvel would have worked better if her role in the films felt earned, it just wasn't. This is doubled down on Brie Larson walking in and then acting like she expected to be at the same level of fame as the rest of the Avengers when it took them 2-3 movies to get to where they are.I think she's fine as an actor...and that's about it. Not particularly charming and comes off as more of a plot device than an actual character. This says a lot about her standalone film because in there her only drawing point was that shes super strong.... and that's about it. None of the charm nor wit.
Captain marvel is just overall a bad film and was one of the greatest red flags that signalled the MCU's eventual decline.
-
Captain Marvel was a bit of a lackluster film to me as well. As for Brie Larson, there were a couple of interviews from that time were she seemed to not get along well with the other cast members, particularly Chris Hemsworth.
I personally thought she seemed like a bit of a stick in the mud, but I have watched some videos from her Youtube channel and she was super likeable and geeky in those. I get the impression she's just a bit socially awkward and that showed in her interviews. She certainly doesn't deserve the hate she gets. I think when Captain Marvel came out, she also said in an interview that she particularly wanted for women to enjoy it or something, and of course all the idiot incels translated that to "she hates men, she's horrible!"
As for her acting skills, I've seen her in some other films and she was pretty good and charming in those. I think the writers and directors of Captain Marvel just didn't give her much to work with. Let's hope The Marvels will be good to shut up her haters!

I mean the MCU due to overexposure and the incessant need to cross everything over with each other would’ve caused that just the same.
Let’s also not pretend that every MCU movie prior to Captain Marvel was on hit and legit either. We all have had opinions on MCU movies that were not terribly good or necessary
-
Captain Marvel really did not do its title character justice, though. Carol just feels very bland and undefined and that makes it hard to really get into her beyond my hope as a queer woman that she'll just marry Maria but even then I'm left hanging with thin subtext. Seeing Sam Jackson play a younger Fury wound up being the best part of the film as a result.
That whole film iritates me. It just feels like someone's trying really hard to please the wrong people and not hard enough just being comfortable in their own skin.
-
I hardly hate Brie Larson. Some people just don't work for a character.

This is doubled down on Brie Larson walking in and then acting like she expected to be at the same level of fame as the rest of the Avengers when it took them 2-3 movies to get to where they are.How did she "walk in and expect the same level of fame". What did she ACTUALLY do that makes you think that?
The only thing even close to that I can imagine is her pointing out the hypocrisy of criticism thrown to her vs the MCU males in their first performances. Such as tweeting photoshops of them smiling after people said their critiques was her "brooding and not smiling" and then her pointing out almost every phase 1 marvel hero in a promotional photo all serious.
And to a degree, she actually did have more fame, than say Chris Hemsworth at the time Thor was made.
-
@Md-Martin How about instead you let me know what does she actually need to do to make you believe that she did?
Now, of course, she might be 100% a very lovely person and a genuine actress who might come off as a little headstrong.
But that doesn't matter because neither you or I know her and you don't get to speak for who she actually is as much as I can speak for who she is.
What I can do is explain to you why the impression of her was that bad.
Her public clapback to negative reception of the movie being "40 year old white males not liking it and telling her what to do".If you can't agree that the movie is mediocre, then we can't move on from here because the movie is mediocre. So instead of taking it as a sign to improve herself, the wise move she acted on was to shove that finger towards the audience or a group to blame.
In interview clips with her and Hemsworth, it was weird how uncomfortable he was with her. Once again, neither of us knows Hemsworth so we can't speak for his actual character but enough educated guesses and information will lead you to remember that most of the MCU staff enjoyed working with him so there's a chance that he might actually be a decent person. Now, of course it could be just "fun and games" and he is just playing around, albeit a little mean, and is taken out of context. But then you have to ask, would that really lead to an 8-minute long video that makes hundred and thousands of people feel like something is particularly off? If we put Hemsworth aside, how about that Jeremy Remmer's clip with him being uncomfortable? How many signs do I need before I am even allowed to form my own impression of her?
Maybe she was defensive because she was nervous, or maybe she was aggressive because she want to stick to who she was. None of that matters because we are talking about the impression she has given off, not what I actually think.
Also there's this whole stunt thing where she claimed to have done her own stunts (because that's what everyone did, implying she doesn't have or rely on a stunt woman)...when you know, she did rely on one and was coming off particularly aggressive. Even implying that she eventually can reach tom cruise level of stunts.
I don't get the point of the Thor comparison. Please don't tell me it is my imagination that Phase 1 Marvel and Phase 3 Marvel are two different beasts and that the MCU needs a more established and known actor to lead a film.
There's also much to unwrap here regarding how little fame means if your audience doesn't really care. How much the MCU audience grew with the original actors, and how her fame really doesn't matter if she can't deliver and has nothing to do with how she should present herself.
-
As an aside I don't think I've seen all of Captain Marvel in one sitting. Should probably do it just to be fair.
-
I've only seen Brie's interviews with the cast of Scott Pilgrim and everyone seems quite confortable. Zaltrax complains about her seems to be headcanon at best, and quite similat to what you could find in any chan. Ms Marvel movie is as mediocre as most Marvel movies from said phase are, I don't think they are particularly worse. Anyhow, my 2 underdeveloped cents.
-
Maybe I’m misremembering but I could’ve sworn that comment about middle aged movie reviewers was for a different film. That being said some of the people who took those comments to heart pretty much proved her right.
-
Oddly enough right as we're having this discussion, we get an article about why people hate Captain Marvel and why she/Brie doesn't deserve it:
https://movieweb.com/brie-larson-and-captain-marvel-didnt-deserve-the-hate/?utm_source=MW-FB-P&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_campaign=MW-FB-P&fbclid=IwAR06nfaOt0YJGIrE9DvPvAVxpnzzd4ukDlrfPF-6t4XUUUMiG09Hhf_K_2EI think we agree it all comes down to one thing: poor writing.
-
I’m down with this
https://www.theroot.com/keke-palmer-is-on-board-with-fans-casting-her-as-rogue-1849546727
Only thing I wouldn’t like to see is them spontaneously changing the characters skin color in the comics to match the movies, but Marvel seems to love changing the comics to fit better with the movies so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did
maybe using Krakoa resurrection protocol to just randomly bring her back with black skin, which I think would be a bad way to handle it but who knows
-
Yeahhhhh nah.
Like ordinarily I have no problems with actors of different ethnicities playing characters whose ethnicities are already established but that would be a bit too weird.
Not to mention you’re getting someone that’s not from the south to play a character whose known for having a distinct southern accent.

Awwww, poor baby Rocket:
-
Aw man someone's gonna die. This looks like a great adventure, but sadness is guaranteed.
Also, is that Adam Warlock in this trailer? I'm assuming it's different from the comics version (which I admit I've read of wikis), cause I think this guy is supposed to be on par with Thanos with the Infinity stones. I'm assuming this version will be scaled down for the Guardians, maybe?
-
Gunn already confirmed a few Guardians will continue while others die. Most likely Drax, but I can't tell who else.

That is Adam, yes. A rather young Adam, but Adam.
Given that some Guardians are going to die (not Rocket!!!) I wouldn't be surprised if Adam joins later.

Early reviews are in. Ant-Man Quantumania seems…mid. (This being the early score isn’t ideal since scores tend to just go downhill IIRC)
Yeah, as someone who didn’t hate the first two Ant-Man films, I wasn’t sure whether attempting to go Avengers level big is the route to take Ant-Man’s story. At least there’s Guardians 3 this year…

I thought the trailers looked too serious.
-
Gamora and Groot are safe since they've both died before. Twice in Groot's case. Mantis wasn't in the first film and hasn't had much time reallyand isn't very dramatic so she'd be an odd choice.
Dave Bautista has been pretty clear for a while that he's not doing any more of these without Gunn and he's having trouble staying in shirtless shape, so it's probably Drax's last outing one way or another.
Karen Gillan and Chris Pratt have both said things that aren't spoilers in and of themselves, but if you read into the phrasing, might be, so not going to comment on them.
Rocket is the hard one. He was around during the snap, and that's the death that would wreck the audience completely and they'd never be able to keep that from leaking. But he's CG so its not like they couldn't keep him around for basically forever. Baby Groot has grown up and thinks of Rocket as his dad, and Yondu's death in the second movie was definitely the roughest in the entre franchise. So I dunno.
