Can't they just send Zunisha to Oni island and get it over with? Better plan then whatever complex boring plan kinemon has in mind that got ruined now by kaidou. Btw, I wonder where they are hiding zunisha now.
Chapter 923: Emperor Kaidou VS Luffy
-
-
@Joy:
Yeah he got clonked on the head by Luffy multiple times without a scratch. Then he freaking sighs and he one shots Luffy. Big Mom did what ?
Came back unscathed and was about to obliterate the Sunny with everyone inside it engulfing it with a mini-sun. It is pretty much the same: both her and Kaido took multiple hits, were thrown back but suffered literally zero damage and came back ready to wipe their enemies with a single overwhelming blow.
The difference in BM's case is that Bege came in with the cake to lure her away before she could actually attack, while no one came with a barrel of sake to make Kaido forget Luffy's existence. -

Zunisha is not invincible, it's just big. The small cannonfire from Jack's fleet were seriously hurting it. Kaido is pretty huge and could do a lot more damage to a lot greater surface area of Zunisha. Plus with his flying dragon form, dodging the trunk strike from Zunisha probably wouldn't be that difficult. And that's if he attacked it head-on rather than just hitting the hind legs or on its back where the trunk can't do anything but spray water.

He damaged himself equally to what Luffy took. If anything Luffy took the bigger spear hit and was more damaged due to the spinning thrust. So please.
People act as if Katakuri thought he was too strong so he even'ed himself to Luffy by damaging himself.
As if…
No I'm just saying that in the new world luffy has yet to obliterate something relevant in a sound way, and I don't even mean it to lower luffy, I'm just pointing to the fact that power levels are so different now that everything is a lot tougher. G4 is not even doing a scratch to Kaido and BigMom could easily tank that. Katakuri was also able to stand that until the very last moment.
Luffy is going to get a lot more stronger but is not going to beat kaido alone, he'll land the final blow and will be one on one in the last part of the fight, as it was also with doflamingo, but kaido will be fighted but a lot of people.
I also find interesting that Oda did a very tight parallelism between Ryuma and Zoro, and that Zoro has his sword, and that such Ryuma was famous for having cut a dragon in two. Just saying.

In this forum we measure power in Cavendishes only.

How many Cavindishes does it take to screw in a light-bulb?

It was mentioned that Whitebeard and Garp fought equally with Roger.
I honestly forgot about that, but if anything it's evidence that he wasn't necessarily THE strongest but still earned more respect and adoration

The whole Shanks story of getting scarred etc. kind of gets wierd when you consider the level of haki now. That is if you actually bother analyzing it beyond it's narrative and emotional merit. I mean the dude lost an entire arm to a creature luffy one shots at the start of the series. Dude must have had buggy level strength back when he got the BB scar
I feel like his timing was off by just that much that he had to sacrifice his arm in order to save Luffy. It's similar to how our heroes are always/usually winning by a hair without sacrificing too much; but you just have to accept timing exists for the sole purpose of plot, thus Shanks's situation. Or something. I'm old.

Can't we just use the Impel Down scale. Like ranking the characters by where we think their power level would land them in Impel Down. However in this scale I consider Yonko 1st mates and Admirals as a 6.5 and Yonko as a 7.

We don't know Shanks' level back then and I would agree that he had to lose the arm to save Luffy. Also I think the fact that Shanks sought out Rayliegh after losing his arm should hint to Luffy's training with Rayliegh as following in Shanks' footsteps
=D -
Well, Shanks didn't had any DF and was probably worried not to use any other way to counter the sea king as it would hit Luffy aswell. Other then that its plot purpose.
-
I really hope when Kaido goes down which will mark his 8th defeat, Oda will list the other 7 too.

Cavendishes are like inches and feet. It's an obsolete system. We need a proper ten X make up one Y kind of system to handle the complex amount of power level wank that's on the horizon

It depends on how high the lightbulb is.

False. I can assure you that Cavendish is already 100% metric units only. If the numbers get too long you simply use the correct units such as a kilo-Cavendish.
Suggesting Cavendish has any relation to the imperial system of measurement is rude:ninja:as for the whole "why did Kaido turn back into a person?" question: What if humanoid Kaido IS the transformation? A dragon could have eaten the hito-hito no mi, model: Oni.
He might just prefer his transformed state just like Chopper does.I know I'm "late" to the chapter but I'll echo everyone else and say that Luffy getting smashed by Kaido was not surprising at all.

Cavendishes are based on Kilograms, it's the ammount of combat power needed to defeat one enemy of 100.000g in under 100 seconds, without costing you over 100000 seconds on healing and resources to do it again, so is part of the metric system.

No no i believe it must've started ten or twenty years ago. On a cold and windy night. Must've been early march. T'was an ominous feeling in the air that night. Like if someone was about to invent something greater than all of us….

An editor made him change it. Originally shanks wasn't suppose to loose a hand, but the editor said it wasn't interesting enough then Oda went back redraw-ed that scene and the editor was in awe and it became the final version.

Shanks is such a wimp. Gets wounded by Blackbeard when he was a mere underling.
Don't forget he lost an arm to a fucking Sea Creature that Luffy One shotted.
Seriously can you imagine any of the other emperors, except Luffy, losing a whole arm to something like that?

H
I think Big Mom was plenty threatening in her arc. Her """""""defeat"""""" on the StrawHat ship was purely circumstantial which has been pointed out a million times since that chapter. Kaido probably outranks Big Mom, sure, but not by much. Big Mom is the shit (and my personal second favorite yonko after Blackbeard).
Nah that was still the biggest bullshit of that arc.
Think about how we've seen character's like Zoro and Mihawk, destroy an entire fucking Galleon in one swing of a sword. Not even a named attack.
And somehow the Sunny survives being attacked by a goddamn emperor with the so much strength she one shotted the greatest jobbers, "giants" as a child. Not only that she can control the goddamn weather and the goddamn sea.
If the Sunny wasn't a main character in the series. There is no goddamn way it would have survived. She should have been able to just One Punch it to death.
-

Shanks lost an arm cause Oda and the editor thought it was more dramatic that way. Nothing to do with his strength or anything.
If anything Shanks should have just used conquerors haki to subdue all the thieves, but then the chapter wouldn't have been as impactful and dramatic as it is.

Yeah man I know the real world reasons why Shanks lost an arm.I was talking in Kayfabe terms.
And I think its a valid question that Oda should expect his readers to have. The ones that have suspended their disbelief and are viewing the story based on the world established by the author.

Sunny is made from the strongest wood and best materials. We should give Franky some credit. It is not like it is suppose to tank Yonko attacks all day, but should at least handle a hit or 2.
If sinking ships was that easy then there would've been less and less pirate crews in the op verse. (talking about top quality ships in the op verse).
Even Luffy and Lucci's fight didn't destroy that marine's ship at enies lobby.
-
All this over-prioritizing of power levels is dumb anyway. The giant eel obviously got lucky that Shanks was focusing on grabbing Luffy; with not enough time to be more careful, that meant diving through the jaws as they were closing over the boy and he had a choice of posing like Superman (and end up like Darth Maul) or pose like a baseball batter sliding into 4th Base (and end up like the dentist from Deep Blue Sea).
A strong biting force just doesn't equate the durability to take a punch from a boy whose muscles have for 10 years been doing at least as much stretching and -as a side effect- growing as a body-builder of the same age. If Dwayne Johnson punched a healthy great white shark as hard as he could, that fish is going to hurt.

Uh…did you forget that Big Mom almost sliced the Sunny in half? And then went on to destroy Bege's ship with Prometheus? I swear people forget she was looking for cake and just wanted her to go full destructo mode the whole time.

Yeah I just take it on it's narrative merits I was just pointing out that it's kind of funny in retrospect that Shanks makes a huge deal about how bb scarred him to Wb and that he's secretly been biding but no one knows that he actually lost an entire arm to a random fish quite a bit later. Around the introduction of arnament haki I do think there was quite a bit of power creep, but with such a long running series it's kind of expected.
-
BM using armaments to block kong gun while kaidou used no haki for the advanced version of kong gun doesn't speak in her favour.
-

We could measure in Doriki
Blueno was 800. Lucci was 4000. Gear 2nd pretimeskip luffy got the better of Lucci at full strength so we can call that 5000. He probably got 20% stronger by the time he got to sabaody so thats 6000. Shaky said rayleigh was 100x stronger than you kids so that'd put him at 600,000. Yonko's are probably around a million. Luffy is probably a third of that.
This powerscaling is not to be taken seriously.

Except she wasn't trying to sink the Sunny, she was lifting the roof to search for her stolen cake which the Straw Hats were hiding from her.

Shanks can simply have suck 12 years ago.

You have to hurry, System International units are redefined next week !

Well the last panel of Kaidou is badass.
I bet next chapter Law will somehow swap Luffy in time or Luffy will be captured and thrown to Kidd… which I would like to give some focus ont he other characters

Kaido didn't block it though, he got pummeled

I don't think so. The passing of the hat seems integral to the first chapter. That can't happen if he dies.

Did he even want to block it, though?
We can keep going in circles all day. ^^

Well I wouldn't call it pummeled if he didn't suffer for it. The hits connected, and that's about all we can say. Whether it hurt him at all in any way is as yet undetermined (Oda might pull a Lucci move on us, and show later on that some part of Kaido he ignored actually did get hurt during that flurry). But if Luffy can still fight Katakuri after having his side ripped open, Kaido's pain tolerance has to be off the charts in comparison anyway.

Oda took an effort to show Kaido grimmace, so it means he felt some pain. All the punches went in deep, which means he doesn't have a steel skin.
It's like he was beaten up normally, but didn't feel any lasting consequence of the hits afterwards.
-
@uniaka:

Which is only fair, being sturdy with quick regeneration is the main selling point of any Zoan fruit, and I imagine Kaido's Dragon Zoan puts it on another level.
Big Mom, on the other hand, has the diversity of a Paramecia to make up for it. Looking back, the Straw Hats were just ridiculously lucky that they had the exact tools to defend against BM's arsenal of powers:
- The power of Ace
- The power of Enel
- The ability to turn anything into a creature, including tsunamis (hey Whitebeard)
- A sentient burning sword
- Giant Blades swordstyle
- Natural super defense
- A hax ability that automatically kills anyone who's scared of her
Kaido has to offer something that can stand up to all of the above. And that seems to be incredible one vs. one traits first and foremost, typcial for a Zoan, while BM has the full package when it comes to mass destruction and freaky hax abilties.
-
Did he even want to block it, though?

I think the answer to that argument would be Jinbe hitting Big Mom. So yes, circles :p
-
I never really got how BM's iron skin worked exactly.
Like she's born with it, but loses it if she's emotionally affected.
Is it like a mental force field or what is it supposed to be?

I wonder if we can start speculating about whether he used Haki to cushion his fall from the Sky Island or is Luffy just that awesomely powerful? I am curious how Big Mom would react to that assault, completely without defensive position or Haki, especially in her cake-deprived skinny state.

I'm pretty sure it was a non-hardening Armament Haki that naturally covers her body as long as she is not in distress.

It's from eating all the random stuff out there like chairs, tables, rocks, nun wanabes, etc.

Shanks was to Raftel before 12y ago, he battled Whitebeard and Garp aboard Roger's ship and he didn't had any DF. I'm quite certain he was really powerful, but probably he didn't do anything to evade the sea monster in order to not hurt Luffy in collateral damage or something (ofc it's a bit of a stretch but it was for plot purpose).

Impossible he was a Yonlo and had legendary duels with Mihawk which Whiteveard even acknowledged.
