German One Piece Dub (ProSieben MAXX; Dressrosa begins May 30 2019)

No idea what happened to the old German dub thread, so I just made a new one.

For now only 50 episodes, so 629-679, but more are already planned.

Wir zeigen auf ProSieben MAXX ab dem 30. Mai montags bis freitags neue Folgen der legendären Animeserie "One Piece" erstmals im deutschen Free TV und in deutscher Synchronisation (ger dub). Wir zeigen zunächst die ersten 50 Episoden des "Dress Rosa"-Arcs - doch weitere Folgen sind geplant.

Yay thanks, I was just looking for this information the other day I'm not surprised they didn't license the whole arc at once - they usually only do around 50 to 60 episodes at a time. 679 makes sense as an endpoint for Dressrosa Part 1 - it's right after the end of the Colosseum and ends on the cliffhanger of Doffy creating the birdcage.

Also, this! I know for a long time it looked like we weren't getting any new episodes, so thanks a bunch, Pro7Maxx (Also, go to hell, current Rtl2!) Imo the dub has also greatly improved ever since it left Rtl2.

It's still the most popular anime/shonen here besides DBZ, much more so than Naruto, which I guess was always more successful in the US.

So, while Americans are still waiting for Punk Hazard, it looks like we won't be waiting long to finish Dressrosa: One Piece will be getting new episodes this Fall

Currently its Wake up!, but no infos so far of which opening we will get next.

They absolutely are. One Piece is going pretty strong, a few episodes back it even reached 5% (ProSieben MAXX avg. is 1,8%), which is the highest rating ever since they started airing One Piece back in 2013.

It's a video with Nino Kerl, a relatively big German Youtuber, saying he's in the studio to voice a character, and he's with Ruffy's voice actor, who is directing whatever episode they're dubbing, so it seems to be true. His tweet has the hashtag "#zouarc"

If they keep this shedule then who knows, we might get the Whole Cake Island arc much faster than I'd ever imagine. Exciting.

They used to censor the anime pretty bad, back when it was still airing on RTL2. It wasn't 4Kids level horrible, but most blood was edited out and the dialogue was also censored, omitting words like 'kill' for the most part. Ever since One Piece started airing on different channels, though, the censorship ended completely. So these days we are getting a fully uncut version, thankfully. I've also noticed a clear change in the dialogue. The last batch of dubbed episodes had a lot stronger swear words like bastard or shit left in.

It's amazing how fast they are plowing through the episodes now, jeez. If they keep this up, we'll actually be at Wano next year:blink:Pro7Maxx truly is the best!

They did if I remember correctly, but not like 4Kids did with the US version, the changes I can remember should be the change of the color of blood. Instead of red it was black. And some age appropriate language, as most anime were/are targeted at kids, at least from the business aspect of it, don't know if that changed though. But that's only from memory. I haven't watched the german version in ages, so I can't say anything about the current version.

From one of the dialogue authors I heard the dubbing process ended after 779 for now. Until they license and dub more episodes you probably have to expect a much longer waiting time than between the last two seasons of Dress Rosa.

But you're right, Germany catched up a good chunk of episodes thanks to this new license policy which they already did with Fishman Island and Punk Hazard (the break between those arcs were only a half year). Thanks for the information, is there any sources we can check what has and hasn't been censored from the show? Is it streamed from Pro7Maxx too?

Curious as there were some scenes of Doffy decapitated that made it onto the home video release, but not the broadcast in Japan.

It is streamed there, yes, but only the recently broadcasted episodes so you'll not find the scene where Doffy was decapitated there. Hmm, what scenes were cut in the Japanese broadcast? In the German broadcast, his head was definitely shown flying away after being cut off. There used to be a site, animedigital.de, which listed all the cut scenes up to episode 400 (last episode broadcasted on RTL2), but it's down now, sadly.

They just finished up the Zou arc a few months ago, after moving through the whole Dressrosa Saga pretty swiftly.

Not necessarily, as far as I'm aware, things are getting dubbed again. There would have been a little break anyway, I think. I hope we'll get news about new episodes this year, though. And yeah, they really speeded things up in the last few years.

Thats interesting. It's cool that the series has been handled so well with the german dub, and bizarre that they are so far ahead the english one even. Honestly I'm so obsessed with one piece that if an english subbed version of the german dub existed I'd watch it out of curiousity.

I heard the series is uncensored and pretty accurate. You should try watching it with subs from the japanese version which should be pretty much the same.

It was needlessly censored back in the day…each scene with blood was cut out and later on, the dialogue were censored too, with every mention of death or dying being changed to something else less drastic. That was the case for the first couple episodes. Luckily, they've since switched networks (a few times, actually) and since then, the episodes have been airing completely uncut. And thankfully, there are uncut versions of the older episodes available, too. I have no idea if you can watch it with English subs somewhere, though.

Nah, one of the dialog authors already denied that new episodes are in work. The photo was taken when Stampede was dubbed. Seems like it was just a random post.

Hey I'm curious, is there any easy way for someone in the US to get ahold of the german dub? I was considering maybe making some comparison videos, since many dont exist for one peice characters and a lot of the clips chosen aren't actual good comparisons. I'm thinking including german comparisons as well would be a good idea considering how popular it is over there.

I think sites like bs.to or s.to have all the dubbed episodes so far - I think they should be accessible from the US, too, since those aren't official sites.

(They are basically sites where you can stream all kinds of television shows)

His voice didn't change in the series. He only had a different VA in Episode of Sabo.

That's Big News! It's great to get the official confirmation that the dub will continue! I've been actually getting a little anxious the last few weeks and checked several times if there were any status updates.

Yeah, but that's mostly because the network that used to be the main go-to channel for anime in Germany, RTL2, started airing fewer and fewer anime over the years (and I think has stopped showing anime altogether by now, preferring to show scripted reality crap instead). Afterwards, OP was constantly being picked up by different networks, so new episodes being licensed was completely dependent on networks being interested in the show.

It's pretty normal to have to wait about a year or so for a new block of episodes to be licensed and aired, and aside from a long four-year break from 2010 to 2014, that has been the standard since One Piece started airing here in 2003. The last new episode here (end of the Zou arc) aired in April 2020, so this was actually pretty quick.

Looks like starting with vol. 26/Episode 780 this June, Germany will be getting a Blu-ray release:

Box von «One Piece» nicht nur auf DVD, sondern auch auf Blu-ray erscheinen. Da jedoch erst noch neue Folgen synchronisiert werden müssen, erscheint die neue Box erst im Juni.

Okay so, sorry if this seems like necroposting at this point, I can stop if anyone has any problems with this, I just don't know where else to ask. So I'm making another voice comparison, this time for Kin'emon. The wiki lists 2 voice actors like Caesar, and once again doesn't clarify what episodes and/or specials. So, was he recast after a certain episode, or maybe had a different voice in episode of sabo? If its the ladder, do you guys know where I could find the german dub for that? At the moment I only know how to get the TV series. Either way I want to credit correctly.

I don't mind you using this thread for questions about the German dub, that's what it's there for. So, I wasn't even aware of this because I haven't watched the dub of Episode of Sabo yet, but apparently he was voiced by Manfred Trilling in that, who also vocies Mr. 3 and Lucci on the show, whereas in the series, he is voiced by Matthias Klie, who is the German voice of Mihawk and Kumadori, too. That's the one I'm familiar with.

Im glad the german dub is still going strong. Despite not being german i was born in Germay and until i was 12 i mostly watched german tv. Watching anime on rtl2 everyday and one piece reruns on tele5 were the golden days for me. I also remember watching some world masterpiece theater anime on Kika and ocassionally some ghibli movies on another kid's channel the name of which i dont remember. Rtl2 stopping airing one piece after episode 405 was one of my most traumatic memories lol. And a general anime decline after that made me stop watching german tv entirely. I have a question. I have a vague impression of first watching one piece in 2006-007, when did one piece start airing in rtl2 and when in tele5?

We recently finished Whole Cake Island in the dub and are now waiting for an announcement that we'll get new episodes. They always buy the episodes in batches I think. I wonder how they'll do this, cause it's going to be a while before Wano will be finished in the Anime. Maybe they'll dub Reverie and the first two acts first and then the rest later on.
