This arc is the first one where Luffy has soo many allies and potential allies from the get go and i think that it will come down to the Wano people to overthrow the regime and Orochi along with it while, as you said, SH's & Co will deal with the Beast Pirates. I'm not certain that everyone will turn to Luffy's side, i see Drake X remaining in Kaido's crew along with Apoo (they have no reason to believe Luffy & Law will be able to win this fight).

Hm, I think that in the end Oda seems all Supernova's more as potential allie or at least "not overly hostile" to the Strawhats. There's some "We're-all-in-the-same-boat"-charm towards them and the Strawhats (compare the Volume 51 cover) seem to be treated more as one group of sympathetic individuals who in the end will oppose the Yonko, the WG and Teach.
Law, at first a suspicious and overly mysterious and uber-cool character in Punk Hazard, quickly established a relationship with Luffy and, boom, in Dressrosa he is revealed as heartbroken to this day over Corazon's death and much softer in reality than we thought him to be. Capone, who was presented as a tough-as-nails servant of Big Mom established a temporary alliance in trying to assasinate her.
Is this a pattern? Maybe, maybe not, but I cautiosly think that there are more agruments in favor of Supernova's turning out to be allies than against.

Did you feel good when a former Warlord and our main protagonist blasted the insides of a gigantic child, followed by a fullbody incineration?
Come on, man, that was uncalled for.
I mean they had good reasons to do so (Wadatsumi's mere presence was too dangerous to take chances) and Oda needed a way to form a bond between Jinbe / Sanji after their rocky start, but it was still a very unsatisfying conclusion for me. One shouldn't feel bad for the enemy once everything is said and done.
Did they get off on the wrong foot? I don't remember that. But it would have been better if Oda had just drawn another New Fishman Pirate officer to give each of them a one-on-one.
I don't know. Just imagine Zoro and Kid standing triumphant over a defeated King, high-fiving each other. Just sounds incredibly wrong to me.
Well, that's why I didn't imagine Kidd pitted against anyone other than Kaido.
It was Luffy and Nami vs. Cracker and Brulee. Nami just won "her part" early. It wasn't a clean fight, almost no One Piece battle is (which makes them interesting), but it was fair when it comes to numbers. The general depiction matters in my book, not so much the details.
Wait, was Brulee involved in that Nami/Luffy vs. Cracker fight? I'm really getting turned around by all this stuff I feel was different at the time I read them.
But on the subject of numbers, here's something I can picture being a factor with, if no other Calamity, then just King: If he's a three-headed dragon, a la King Ghidora (and I didn't even connect in my mind the fact that his name is the first part of King Ghidora until I started typing this), then it could be argued that he counts as more than one opponent. Hell, maybe even Queen has some sort of two-headed Zoan beast DF and will count as two opponents. It might go 3, 2 and 1 since Jack clearly has only one head. Then you'd have at least two Calamities that fairly merit team-ups. In that case I'd see Zoro, Kinemon (fire-cutting) and Hawkins (overcoming the weakness against fire that his straw has) against King, possibly Sanji and Shutenmaru against Queen, and Jimbei against Jack (possibly with Carrot assisting).
If Oda wants them to beat enemies of that calibre then now is the time, this close to the final war. At the very least when it comes to Zoro, who actually needs the street credibility for his character to work.
Of course it would be insanely hard, but in those "growth" battles they always overcome much stronger enemies. It would certainly be another Daz Bones-level fight for Zoro or Sanji(?), but I don't believe they are that far apart now.Well we just got another glimpse of Blackbeard's bunch, and they're the finale foes so we at least have an idea of where the Straw Hats need to be in order to overcome them. Plus I think we'll see a bunch of new things each Straw Hat has yet to throw out there. Sanji's Raid Suit, Zoro completing the collection of Kitetsu swords (or an incarnation of Asura with 9 different special swords), Nami utilizing Zeus and probably using him as a Flying Nimbus type of vehicle, Chopper creating a Su Long style form (Kirin Point, I hope), Franky turning the entire Sunny into part of a giant mecha, Brook being able to possess other people's bodies or even things like statues…there's loads of potential. I seem to remember back in Enies Lobby, a lot of people were worried about the Straw Hats not being able to beat the CP9 guys and it just didn't make sense. About the only one I figured would just power through with brute strength was Zoro (and it was so), whereas with everyone else, they used something new to break though Tekkai. I'm pretty sure we'll see similar evolution this time around, but there's nothing wrong with showing some teamwork battles. Usopp works particularly well with a partner like when he and Chopper took out Mr. 4 and Miss Merrychristmas.
I understand that people still have Katakuri fresh in their heads and how Luffy struggled against him, but he was also the top commander and it's not like Luffy was out of commission for several days after (eating in his sleep etc.)
But Luffy was technically stronger in Gear 4, he just had such a limited window to use it without powering down and had to compete with Kata's Observation Haki to find an actual opening to make a direct hit.

@Big:
Is this a pattern? Maybe, maybe not, but I cautiosly think that there are more agruments in favor of Supernova's turning out to be allies than against.
Well, didn't say they will remain enemies till the end but i find it a bit odd if Oda makes every other Supernova team up with Luffy … I would like them to have their own agenda and plans and Bege was ploting the assassination from the begining ... i don't think X Drake, Apoo have the same mindeset as Luffy & Law. They entered Kaido's crew, the crew of a Yonko and potential Pirate King, it's much more then most pirates can dream of. I bet Oda envisioned all of the Supernovas coming together again in the NW, but that will take awhile IMO.
Would really like to see other pirates teaming up with the "antagonists" of the arcs because of their own will ... like Ace did with WB, even though he wanted to be PK as a starting motivation.
-
I think the problem with the calamities are their endurances and staminas, the sweet commanders are strong no doubt but as we seen with cracker and katakuri both lack the endurance and staminas to fight for days heck they only lasted hours while jack lasted days fighting 2 enemies that has recovered their strengths every day. It doesnt matter how strong or powerful sweet commanders are if they cant match the endurance and staminas of the calamities they are more likely to loss to them. I think their staminas roots from them being zoans that is why they got boost of strength and im pretty sure one of this calamaities will surely have an awakening which as we saw from the jail guards boosts the users abilities to recover fast and have greater endurances. Imagine 3 already buff high resistant hard hitters having stamina boosts and fast recovery it doesnt matter how strong the opponents are they will surely have a hard time.
If you are playing pokemon its like a battle with a blissey or a chansey with leftovers, you will either ran out of pp of hp before you manage to defeat then.

As dickish as he was, Vegeta eventually changed his tune once he saw Goku rise to the challenge against Kid Buu. I think the most stubborn butt-headed Supernovas will undergo a similar change once they witness Luffy doing something truly amazing in defiance of Kaido (not that he hasn't already, there were just so few witnesses) in front of the whole world.

Come on, man, that was uncalled for.
Not really, because Wadatsumi is one of the best examples why ganging up on on someone leaves a bad taste in your mouth. It's a popular trick to make people hate the villain, but it has no place for the protagonists we are supposed to like.
Also I think it was obvious, but my rhetorical question wasn't directed at access timeco personally, but towards everyone reading the post. Obviously people don't enjoy children (or grown ups with the mind of a child) to be brutally ganged up on.
Did they get off on the wrong foot? I don't remember that. But it would have been better if Oda had just drawn another New Fishman Pirate officer to give each of them a one-on-one.
The idea behind a tag team wasn't bad. A dozen chapters earlier Sanji demanded that Jinbe should slice his belly for "unleashing" Arlong, but the arc had to end with him accepting Jinbe as a potential member. Letting both fight the same enemy served the purpose to form a bond between them in a short time. I just don't think it should have been Wadatsumi, but another tag team of fishmen. Preferrably those who deserved the beating more.
Well, that's why I didn't imagine Kidd pitted against anyone other than Kaido.
Maybe, but in that case his only role can be "the jobber", which he already fulfilled by sitting in prison now. On the other hand he is one of the Worst Gen, and he was also highlighted together with Law and Luffy at Saobody as those who will make the biggest splash. At least that was my interpretation of the scene back then.
I think it's totally possible that we will see a repetition of that scene. With Luffy confronting Kaido, while Kidd and Law agree to deal with King & Queen respectively. Which would still leave Orochi for Zoro, who's bound to get some major attention for various reasons.Wait, was Brulee involved in that Nami/Luffy vs. Cracker fight? I'm really getting turned around by all this stuff I feel was different at the time I read them.
Yup, Nami electrocuted Brulee and took her out of the fight.
Looking at the big picture it was a fair tag team, with Luffy and Nami coming out on top because they just happened to have the better answers (Nami countered Brulee's Evil Forst through the Vivre Card and took her out when she got cheeky, while Luffy countered Cracker's devil fruit with his stomach and water).
In that case I'd see Zoro, Kinemon (fire-cutting) and Hawkins (overcoming the weakness against fire that his straw has) against King, possibly Sanji and Shutenmaru against Queen, and Jimbei against Jack (possibly with Carrot assisting).
I'm not totally against this kind of idea, but it has to be handled carefully.
Like Straw Hats vs. Oars for example, one of my favorite fights. Here they also ganged up on a gigantic Zombie (+ Moriah), but it felt fair because it wasn't entirely Moriah's own power they dealt with. He reanimated a gigantic monster and infused it with the combat power of Luffy, it was basically Moriah's strongest super duper crewmember. So it was only fair in the eye of the reader that Luffy himself was supported by his crew in one of the coolest team efforts we've seen so far. Thriller Bark is worth re-reading, if only for that fight.
Another example would be the Pirate Allstar alliance + Zoro vs. Pica.
For me it worked because Pica himself didn't "play fair", he made use of unique circumstances that amplified his power to ridiculous levels. He absorbed an entire city worth of stone, something he can't do everywhere, so it was only fair that Zoro got slight support to take him out safely.
So okay, if King or Queen have an ability that drastically increases their power, more than it usually does because of very convenient circumstances, then sure let them be fought by a tag team of whoever you want. But tag-teaming them just because Zoro's powerlevel is only 3 Cavendish instead of 5 is absolutely terrible and won't feel satisfying at all, and worst case will make you root for the commander they're fighting.
Well we just got another glimpse of Blackbeard's bunch, and they're the finale foes so we at least have an idea of where the Straw Hats need to be in order to overcome them. Nothing against teamwork battles, but it has to be fun and fair. Not "Hey Emperors, the Worst Generation is in town and we will 3 vs 1 your commanders in a back alley if you don't watch out!"

Yo. What if…like Zoro would fight Shiryu of the Rain...In the rain.
It would be like...He is fighting the rain itself or something.

The problem with your projection is that battles are rarely decided on one quality alone. Having Zoan endurance is obviously a great benefit but it won't matter if the All-Stars don't have offensive aces to rival those of the Sweet Commanders.
-
Straight from the One Piece Wiki:
- Teach's namesake, Edward Teach, had a bounty of £100 in 1716. This roughly equals 2,247,600 yen in the present day, meaning Blackbeard's bounty matches up with his namesake's.
A pretty cool minor detail
Hey thanks! Someone figured it out. A really cool detail, and I think that makes Blackbeard's bounty an open and shut case now.
I wonder how bounties go past the 400m mark? Oda may have abandoned the "It's hard to raise your bounty higher than 400m" idea, but maybe not, we may just be dealing with people that notorious. I wonder how much harder each 100m to get is after 400m, 1B, etc.

Rain sounds good.
At least it's better than Zoro fighting against white space for 10 chapters straight because Shiryu awakened everyone and everything.

I did says they are hard hitters with lots of staminas and endurance did u read what i said lol…

Can they hit hard enough to break through Cracker's defense? Or hit Katakuri?
-
With what we know about the shogun and how he got to power, I don't understand why people still expect him to be some strong character that Zoro could face.
-
With what we know about the shogun and how he got to power, I don't understand why people still expect him to be some strong character that Zoro could face.
But we don't know the specifics of how he got to power.
But yes, while he has been given some hype, it has so far only come in the form of propaganda from children. And on top of that, he's apparently very paranoid, to the point where even Hawkins feels the need to help calm him down. But these two things do not neccessarily make it a given that he'll be Spandam 2.0. Neither is there anything wrong with a "strong" character whose character quirk/flaw is paranoia.
Honestly, it can go either way.

Lol kaidou are u underestimating the powers of ur calamities? Lol
Kidding aside do you really think they could not possibly break through cracker's defense? Also jack might be barbaric but like i said it doesnt matter if katakuri dodge the attacks if he rans out of stamina the fight would be for the calamities also we havent fully seen the powers of this calamities.
Im just stating the facts that stamina and endurance along with raw power is the advantage of the all star above sweet commanders.
Clearly if you see how much damage jack can do compare to cracker, smoothie and katakuri. His powers is meant to destroy and devastate…

Well yeah, anyone we've seen with a bounty over 400m has been incredibly notorious
Seems like it would be hard to push past that boundary if you had continually raised your bounty the way Kidd did originally, by being a major danger to innocent bystanders
However if making major waves against the worlds big players is your jam, welcome to the 400M+ club
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
With what we know about the shogun and how he got to power, I don't understand why people still expect him to be some strong character that Zoro could face.
Just because he's done some underhanded things doesn't automatically make him weak
Anyway, I feel like we're going to get Orochi vs Kin rather than Zoro

Does anyone know if the mangasail spoiler for 926 is true or not? Since we still don't have a new spoiler page from Redon..
-
Yo. What if…like Zoro would fight Shiryu of the Rain...In the rain.
It would be like...He is fighting the rain itself or something.
That sounds good. We could see Shiryu's Silhouette because of the raindrops' behavior.
But so could Zoro.
Razh wrote that Shiryu could hide a (maybe 2nd) sword by making it invisible. -
Anyone else thought of Pirate Warriors 2 because of this chapter?
-
Anyone else thought of Pirate Warriors 2 because of this chapter?
That game where BB and Moria joined Forces (iirc)?
With Luffy being caught now, what are your thoughts on Kinemon's shedule, guys and Girls?
I guess that during that Festival the SHs might be still on Wano.
Either the end-fight will take place around that time or the SHs will be celebrating their victory during that Festival (with BM/marines interrupting it maybe).
But almost 2 weeks is a really Long time for OP-island-Standards. -
The festival will happen. Been brought up too many times, and we need a date for the full moon anyhow, as opposed to some random night. We already skipped some days, so it's not like we'll see the entirety of these two weeks.

It just dawned on me: Absalom, an invisible man, died without us seeing how; he died "invisibly." I don't know if Oda intended it that way, but it's pretty neat.
-
Yo. What if…like Zoro would fight Shiryu of the Rain...In the rain.

That would be counterproductive for Shiryu because leaving a big invisible glob that keeps a certain area of rain from hitting the ground will give away his position, even if invisible. That being said, I find it colossally disappointing that of all the possible DF abilities he could have been given, it was that one. Especially for an opponent like Zoro, who has only one good eye now anyway.
It just dawned on me: Absalom, an invisible man, died without us seeing how; he died "invisibly." I don't know if Oda intended it that way, but it's pretty neat.
No, that's just lame, like how every single person escaped Big Mom's territory unseen. But more than anything I want to see how and who these devil fruit abilities were harvested from to power up BB's crew.

Maybe Shiryu will be off paneled too.

What does Absalom dying have to do with any of those characters lol. I was just pointing at the fact that we've never seen the guy appear on-panel since Thriller Bark and even his death was off-screened. It could also be Oda deliberately not caring about the character because he dislikes Absalom.

Just a slight correction. Technically, he did appear on panel, together with Hogback. You can see their silhouettes on that ship escaping from Kid's base.
Cleanest image I could find.
!
Believe he's just going to return, with a somewhat different personality and a stronger body. Hogback can tamper with his body as much as he wants now.
-
So Law's fruit is worth almost as much as a yonkou's bounty. Or even more then a yonkou if luffy as 5th counts.
-
Absalom will probably get a big zombie revival party and have even more scars than he already did. Oda hates killing people off, and Absalom is too goofy not to come back. Just look at the stupid grin on Moria's face when he thinks they're being reunited:

Doesn't matter if he comes back as a zombie. The Absalom we know is dead.
-
If Absalom is brought back as a zombie, he'll have a different personality due to having someone else's shadow (unless he gets Sanji's shadow). The results might be hilarious.
-
Can anyone prove that Absalom isn't somewhere around here?

LOL now that I look at this https://jaiminisbox.com/reader/read/one-piece-2/en/0/905/page/11 was Stelly talking about BigMom?

Can anyone prove that Absalom isn't somewhere around here?
https://jaiminisbox.com/reader/read/one-piece-2/en/0/905/page/8Can't 100% prove it, but the fact that he was with the Blackbeard Pirates long enough for Moriah to get worried and come and look for him suggests that he was with the BB Pirates (dead or otherwise) for quite some time. I don't buy that Absalom would be active/quick enough that he could infiltrate the Reverie, and then go all the way to where BB was holed up. Also if you're at the Reverie taking pics and what not, I don't see why you would leave before the whole thing is over.

I know this chapter's old now but I'll still respond just to let it be said.
I'm not a big fan of Absalom either but I still want to see exactly how BB's guys dealt with him (and presumably any other Moria hangers-on he was towing along with) and their other DF theft victims prior to obtaining their abilities. I think it would really help show just how badass they were even before getting powered up. But also I want to know why of all the abilities Shiryu could have chosen, why that one was what he went with. It doesn't even fit his epithet, in fact rain would harm his invisibility. Like that one scene in Hollow Man where they turned on the sprinkler system.
