It's Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie. Not surprising.
But hahaha, I love one reviewer that calls it "The Wizard of Oz on acid." (and omg apparently Helen Mirren is the narrator! Somehow nobody mentioned this!)

I have no idea what the fuck is going on, but I'm highly amused and intrigued.
"It's in the fucking chicken!"
I just saw a YouTube video with the title, Barbie movie exposed as woke man hating trash, and will bomb
Like what are you talking about dude, it has an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and is probably gonna make hella money
I didn’t click on it cause I don’t want the algorithm to start sending me more of this shit
Barbie is going to make like a billion dollars and everyone is going to be shocked and unable to explain it.
Well maybe not, it probably won't do as well overseas.
But its still gonna make a ton of money.
Barbie sits at a pretty 89% tomatometer, while Oppenheimer sits at a sweet 93%. Barbenheimer is upon us.
Seriously though, I was always going to see Barbie but if I can get my ass up I might see Oppenheimer too, more depressing topic that it is. Cillian Murphy is supposed to be amazing.
Oppenheimer was great. Very powerful and insightful, but brace yourself for loud noises. Also, the last 45 minutes could've been trimmed a bit.
Wouldn't be at all surprised if Cillian Murphy got an Oscar nom, or RDJ for that matter.
Oh yeah, and the marketing for Barbie is insane. The staff at my theater were wearing heart-shaped glasses.
Mattel is not going to let this chance go.
A look at why "Barbenheimer" is such a thing:

The Barbie movie was a ton of fun. Great humor and great performances all around. And it was so great seeing people getting into the spirit of it as a lot of members of my audience were dressed her in pink.
And yeah, the movie's already killing it at the box office.
Both movies I throughly enjoyed - maybe if i had enough time/coordination I would've seen both on the same day just for the meme.
I don't think I have the stamina to do a double feature.
@Satsuki Especially considering Oppenheimer is three hours long.
I was surprised Oppenheimer was near packed too.
Barbie has brought Greta Gerwig further status as the female director with the highest opening weekend ever.
Girl Power! Boo yeah!
Cillian Murphy would totally be a Ken in a Barbie sequel (as long as it had a good script):

Yesterday I watched the new Wes Anderson film, Asteroid City. The movie was really great. I really like the set for the movie, which made it look like an play. There were alot of great funny moments in the movie.
Sounds like classic Wes Anderson.

I actually watched this one today and, yeah, it's pretty good.
There aren't as many movies as fun as Barbie. I think I "snort-laughed" more than I have in a long while. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling at least deserve nominations for Best Actress/Actor.
Then again, ALL the Barbies and Kens where great. You could tell every actor was having a blast.
OMG, this is Carrie Fisher's last film, and it's finally coming out:
Apparently caught in a bit of a production hell for the last several years, but Fisher finished filming this like 6 weeks before she died.
Is it crazy of me to think that the Barbie Movie might get nominated for best picture
It reminds me of the first Black Panther and how much of a cultural phenomenon it was
Huh, I didn't know they were making a Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill:

The man is such a nerd and I love him for it.
Why do Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl go so well together?
Short film for Netflix. I will happily take it, Wes.
I have some news that will make Robby very happy. Sorry if this was shared already.

Saw this along with the other three short films this past week. They're all styled the same way with the actors both narrating and performing the roles, and the shorts share most of the same actors. That being the case, I guess you could lump them all together and call it a movie.
Anyway, they're all pretty good and very Wes Anderson. Henry Sugar is, of course, the best as its the longest, has the most intriguing story, and really gives Benedict the chance to shine. Poison is also nice since Benedict's in that one too. The other two are okay, but Rat Catcher may be a turn off for a lot of people.
And this reminds me I still need to watch a bunch of Wes Anderson's earlier movies.

the nostalgia wave seems to be about 6 productions behind from putting actual geezers performing as teens. "Hello fellow kids!" indeed.
Didn't know they were making a series out of this. Already looks better than The Last Samurai:
I keep meaning to read the book, just have never gotten around to it.
I recall there was a TV show back in the day about Shogun with Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune as Not-William Adams and Not-Ieyasu Tokugawa.
The trailer for The Monk movie is out.

Toshiro Mifune as Tokugawa Ieyasu would definitely be epic.
Quite a few trailers dropped this week.
I thought we were done with the new Planet of the Apes movies, but...well, guess we'll see how this one goes.
I enjoyed the original Mean Girls, but I'm not familiar with the musical, so maybe I'll check this out.
And yet another attempt to revitalize the Ghostbusters franchise. I'm actually one of the few who enjoyed Afterlife, so I may give this a shot. At least the plot looks original.
I thought Afterlife was generally pretty well-received? Hmm just checked Rotten Tomatoes, I guess it was one of those films were audiences and critics were pretty divided, as the critic score is only 64%, while the audience score is at 94%.
Never watched any of the original Ghostbusters, but liked the latest one well enough. Paul Rudd seems to be having a blast based on the trailer, hoping the other members of the team show similar enthusiasm.
Not a movie, but who knew Ted was going to get a whole series?
Oh man this is gonna cause waves
Hoo boy.
I love these guys, but it's just Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends live action.
Did anybody tell Craig McCracken about this?

Sure but its not like Fosters was the first to do the "imaginary friends are real" thing.
And even if it was, the show is 20 years old next year (yikes) , enough time has passed something else can take a spin at the premise and it's pretty fair as a fresh idea.
Wonka was actually pretty good. I think it does a good enough job of living up to the source material and, frankly, it's just really nice to see a modern-day live-action musical.
